bell siphons already exist.

Instead of using top watering systems that require a lot of fine-tuning, you can soak your wheatgrass seeds for a day and use only bottom watering after spreading those on the trays. Another thing is, you don't really need soil for cultures like wheatgrass or alfalfa. Wheatgrass has really strong roots and grows up to 10-15 cm or about 5" without any soil.

I've watched all your videos and you're inspiring me a lot 🙏 Regarding the siphon: Have you thought about what happens if the water level, for whatever reason, couldn't rise to the desired level? I have no experience with growing greens and I don't know if this is even a thing but it just came to my mind that the trays might sit in water Regarding your lights: Are you still working on this project? I'm interested in lights like you have build them mainly because of the cost factor since I'm just thinking about getting into growing / automating and over 100 bucks for some LED's is a bit expensive for me

I live in the UAE and we currently do exactly what you're doing. They have entire automated aquaponic facilities in Al Ain and almost every grocery store in Dubai does this exact same growing method. They've been doing it for years. You should check them out.

Is this the only way to do this? Is it possible to just use float valves that drain once the water hits a certain level and drain into a lower tray, then repeat until it drains back into the bucket?

I also use a germ “chamber” with a temp regulated crock pot of water for temp and humidity. I use an old refrigerator for the chamber. I like you set up. I wonder if you need coir.. maybe screens for substrate? ✌🏽🌱❤️

I like how you share the whole process of creating a very professional controller. Something i would love to see added: growth programs. What i mean, i would like to be able to save a certain amount of pre-programmed schedules for different seeds. By simply selecting the schedule, it would be so cool if all the events are automatically scheduled in google calendar. Keep up the good work!

Great setup, dude! I am looking into doing something similar. Somethings maybe you could look into: 1. Mesh bottom grow trays for hydroponics. Allows more of a root system to come into contact with the grow solution. 2. Capacitive moisture probes that you can put under your substrate to be able to finely monitor substrate or root moisture content. 3. Individual flood and drain solenoids for each 10x20 tray. This will allow you to vary watering as per crop recipe. 4. Redundancy shutoffs or alarms for fan and light failure (current monitoring maybe) or photodiode, and airflow switches. 5. Flood mitigation. Level sensors where if a valve gets stuck on, it would shut off pumps and activate drains as to not flood your grow tent or house. When I learned PLC's a long time ago in school, we always had to think of people, production, and property damage risk mitigation through automation. I wish I knew how to program like you do! Amazing job! Keep up the great work!

Hm... you are not afraid of mold issues with the germination chamber ? I'm not sure if this is good idea having water mist system on top of high humidity. Not having air movement in there might be an issue . I guess you will find out . Also looks like you not stacking the trays with weight Interesting . Keep up good work .

Neat system. I would worry about something going wrong during the night with my luck LOL. I always take a picture of the water valve so when I wake up at 2 am with the sinking feeling I left the water on, I can prove to myself it is off and go back to sleep. I guess that becomes a fear when you top off the pool and forget and leave it on all night 🙃

Your water level control design look to be an inversed toilet filling design, I'm drunk and it took me 30 second to guess how a system similar to yours would look like, then you calculated the opening flow ratio to be equal to your pump GPM, to keep the same water level, a slight angle and aquaphobic coating and you should be able to stretch you watering cycle before cleaning from 20 to 35%If had to guess you have a something smilar to a telsa valve design to control your waterflow and reduce the amount of turbulence your roots have to deal with but I'm reaching at that point. Anyway, the barrier of entry is too low for that specific one, hardware is stupidly easy to copy and is not a viable base to build your business strategy at such a low level of engineering, you should focus on the software side, your goal should be to make it the most convenient possible to use and assemble. Love your work, you were an invaluable source of inspiration at my lowest, All the love.

Please move your electronics to the top shelf at the very least. Your top watering overspray can cause a short and start a fire.

Are you working with arduino? Or how you translate the data to youR computer? Where i'm from there is not too much tech, but is just a thing of learning by ourselves and then go on trough.

I like the way you are approaching the automation. I would like you lower the over head hose so that is don't wet up the LED to cause a short circuit. I would try implement a moisture sensor which will prevent over watering.

I dont know if it is just me.. but color of the leaves looks better on the barrina LEDs, the color of the leaves on the eco lights looks a little bit pale, plus they have a smaller size..

Hi, I have a setup similar to yours. Have you ever had trouble draining the flood trays? My water pump is only sucking air since the main water channel is not always full with water... Any ideia on how to solve this? Thank you a lot!

Impressive system, I was wondering what type of water pumps do you use? I noticed they are not submersible. Do you have a solenoid valve on the drain pipes to prevent the water from draining until you need it to drain?

Do you have any issues with mold growing in hemp while using an automated system? I’ve been testing on hemp and biostrate and hemp grows better but i have experienced mold issues with it.

The more you automate out the human contact the more challenges you will have with health & production of the crop. I can see you have invested a great deal of time in your system however, this already exists and has existed for over 20 years. We use it in our greenhouses and in our field production. It's all high tech.

is this tent ok with wear and tear? some reviews say the zipper and the stitching is crap on the new shipments.
