Wednesday, October 9, 1968 1:00 pm (CT) at Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri Jim Northrup Had 4 Grandslams that year, Two in one game, with another following that week, to make it 3 in one week. So not to much surprises he hit one in this game! Al Kline also hit a home run in the 5th!

Jose Feliciano's unconventional pre-game singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" aroused considerable controversy, with the Tigers and NBC receiving thousands of angry letters and telephone calls about the performance.] Lolich also blamed Feliciano's unusually long rendition for causing him to get cold after his warm-ups and thus give up three early runs.
They finally got to Gibson after facing him the second and third time... All about timing and adjusting to the speedball.
The auto commercials are great and they sell at "popular prices."
Why no video tapes of this series??? Kinescopes ok for 1953 but in 1968 the tapes should have been saved,
I was there...behind third base.. watching Willie Horton's throw Lou Brock out at the plate. I was 9, it was incredible to be there, to see the Tigers do what they had done all year-come from behind and win! What a team that was!
Lolich did what he had to do . Mickey Stanley was the man, but Denny won 31 kalne Horton Gates DM second base Norm Freehan i cannot remember you all but you guys were my team 13 years old.THANK YOU GUYS.. METS ARE MY TEAM ALSO.POLO grounds 1962 1st game
It wasn’t until game 5 that an all time great national anthem would be sung in Detroit
How about that. In the Seventh inning Ron Davis of the Cardinals doesn’t make the catch that Ron Swoboda of the New York Mets makes a year later against the Orioles.
Tigers just too too tuff!!
53:54 - "I guess you don't understand it, but...." Geez, how rude.
0:53 In 1968, surely the World Series must have broadcast in color. Question is whether any of the surviving footage is in color.
Very strange . . .Haven’t seen one player go back to the dugout and smash something with his bat.
Al kaline and Roberto Clemente were two rf's who could do everything perfectly.
St Louis scored 3 runs in the first inning. They then scored 2 runs in the next 26 innings. And that's how they lost.
Thanks . I will watch this evening.
The game and the play that turned the series around for the Tigers
Shame this was letterboxed cutting off the top and bottom of the original broadcast. You can’t see Brock’s foot not touching home plate!
I'm 66 years old and this was the first World Series I watched in entirety. When they got Brock at the plate I knew they just might win. Especially after they threw him out earlier trying to steal.
I saw Kaline climb onto the right field wall and leap off to rob Mantle of a homer...musta caught the ball 13feet above ground level.
McClain could/should have won 33 games during the season. His last two starts (with his arm hurting) he left both games with the Tigers ahead in the fifth inning, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead in either game. 33-6 ...just look at that.
I still get chills when Kaline gets his clutch hit and George Kell with the call.
Maris, who of course used to play in the AL with the Yankees, told his Cardinal teammates that they need to fear Lolich more than the 31 game winning McLain.
Lolich has said he was not properly warmed up before starting the game and that may have led to giving up three runs. He had to delay his warm up because of Jose Feliciano’s long rendition of the National Anthem and when it ended NBC put pressure on MLB to start the game as soon as possible.
I loved hearing the Tiger Stadium Crowd roar ,, when Lou Brock got thrown out at 2nd base ,,I was at the 5th game and this was the pivotal game ,,where everything Shifted in our Favor ,, seeing the game 50yrs Later in 2018 and hearing all the National league people they interviewed,, Oh we got Bob Gibson's glove for his 1st game victory ,,My thought was,, you should have got his arm,, and Tony kubek interviews ,, well the National league is just a better league and St Louis is running away with the Series and To hear them all Sing a different tune was so great ,,As a 11yr old kid ,,i had no doubt We were going to Win and see the Whole city rejoicing was outstanding ,, dancing in The streets ,, Michigan Ave ,,hot dogs food Cokes ,,cars honking their horn's going 5 mph ,, what a celebration ,, thank you Lord For helping us be World Champs in 1968+ Thank you Sir,, for helping your Church Win Many Souls in this final hr before your 2 ND Coming and taking back Christian America and Win the Nations also to God our Heavenly Father,, when the wicked rule In government ,,the people mourn but when the Righteous take it all back ,, the people Shout and there will be a WorldWide celebration such as never been before,, Thank you FatherJesusHolyGhost for all Your Goodness and Wonderful works to the Children of men and many upon many,, upon Many People becoming BornAgain Mankind in Jesus Holy Name !!! Amen and Amen !!! Our Finest hour is on the way ,, Amen !!!
if mayo had taken mickey out, it would have shown how stupid he was. he should have let him bat, irregardless of whether wert got on base or not.
Tony kubek interviews the Montreal manager,, what are you going to do with that Brock ,, you really can't stop him ,,I thought ,, my God ,, man what game were you watching,, well you really can't stop him,,they threw him out at second and home plate ,, negating 2 of his hits ,,I realize ,,he Must have been traumatized by Lou ,, but that 5th and 7 the game they threw out The fastest runner's in baseball ,,I went to the 5th game as a kid and seeing the replay of the whole game 50 yrs later was priceless ,, especially watching Cepada on First base ,, after Al Kaline hit the go-ahead Two run single ,, Cepada looked so blank faced ,,St Louis should have thrown in the Towel right then and there,, it was Spiritual Poetic justice ,,the Good Lord destined us to Win and have the biggest peacetime celebration in any city in the USA ever ,, thank you Jesus for all your Goodness !!!
Al Kaline ,,MR Clutch ,, 2run base hit,, and it Sounded like 300,000 fans Standing ,, Clapping,, and Roaring like Tigers for a continuous 15 minutes ,,Wow ,, wonder what the St Louis team felt like ,, hearing that Roaring thank you Jesus !!!
Storm Norman cash
The silver fox Jim Northrup
Harry Caray had a crisp voice in his earlier days; none of the slurring you heard from him with the Cubs.
Ernie always stood by his choice of Jose for the anthem, and the two were friends until Ernie's passing. Jose's wife is from Michigan, and it was great that the Tigers brought Jose back.
the ump called this pitch a check swing 😂😂 49:36
Angel???
With the stupid way they manage today no way Lolich goes 9 innings.
the st.louis MASSACRE
How big was the tag on Brock with his decision not to slide in Game 5? I remember watching it and something went through me that this was big. The Cards crossed home place twice after that out,not a productive way to win a World Series.
Eddie Mathews's last major league hit at 48:16
Tony Kubek looks like My Favorite Martian with that headset...
Wow what a game. I was 13 and forgot about game 6. And the Dodge and Plymouth commercials are cool also.
Love Norm Cash old school no helmet.
My grand dad died just before the series began. His funeral was held on the day of this game. My sister and I went to game four a dreary rainy day and the Cards smoked the Tigers 10-1. When Kaline got the single we were in the funeral procession and had the game on the car radio. We kids whooped it up a bit and my Aunt scolded us for it but my uncle said let them cheer because Grandpa was a big Tiger fan. The WS series win really brought city together just a year after the 67 riot.
One thing I miss: "They call Gibby safe, and we're gonna have a rhubarb."
I was just discharged from the USMC was in Vietnam in 1967. When we landed the Captain announced Welcome to the home of The World Series Champion Detroit Michigan. The whole plane went crazy. It was one of the happiest moment of my life. Robert Charles Lindsay USMC Vietnam Combat Veteran 1967. Again Congratulations World Series Champion Detroit Michigan and The Detroit Tigers.
Thank you, for your service, and sacrifice. Semper Fi! (The Marines are by far best branch of military, you guys are just built different)
52:27 George Romney, looking as brainwashed as usual, just like his son, Mitt...
Good riddance to Harry Carry for this game.
3:45:06
I love Jose Feliciano, and he did a beautiful version!
No sound
Thank you very much for the download.
Freehan was a great catcher…. He blocked Brock off perfectly
If Brock slides, the Cards win.
I was there, 10 years old and as a tremendous Cardinals fan, couldn't stop crying after the game. This my first WS game and went with my mom, as my dad who had scored the tickets for us had to work. Thought I'd see the Redbirds win their second straight WS that day, as they were up 3-2 going in, and having beaten the Red Sox the year before. The wound up losing 3 in a row to give the Tigers their first championship in 28 years I believe. I just stopped crying 2 weeks ago, thank you very much.
I was ten years old as well but a tremendous Tiger fan. I'll tell the Card's are my second favorite since that incredible Fall Classic.
