In today’s video, we’re diving deep into the engine guts of the 4x4 Mitsubishi Montero and tackling a common concern: engine knock. We've noticed a considerable amount of "knocking" coming from the depths of the 3.0 engine. Could it be the tragic tale of a spun rod bearing? We don't know but it's time to find out. We're going to put this "beast from the east" up on the lift and drop the oil pan...

All this effort to make this ultimate beast from the eas...

Nice work guys keep it going
@@PHARRAWAY Thank you 🙏
My favourite Mopar, a 70 Challenger and 70 Cuda.
🙌🏼
don't tell me there mechanic
man i fucking love the aar cuda
Let’s go Chon!
This is why I tell my wife I can never have enough scrap metal
I’d just put the winch on the front of the trailer and a pulley on the tilt deck right at the corner for it to ride up and over
We thought of that. I really wanted to keep the deck clear for any parts or tool boxes we would like to add in the future. Thanks for the comment 👍🏼🙏
Put a hidden winch in the front of the trailer you can pull it up when needed then put a roller in the floor for the winch line to roll on when winching
Right but id prob use a roller instead
@@jeffhunley7008 I've seen those. Thought about it but seemed like a lot of work so we went this route. Those are very nice though.
@revivalgarage I bought a new rice trailer last April it's not a tilt deck me and my son put a hidden winch in it I really thought it would be a pain but once we got out measurements and the cradle to hold the winch made the rest was easy
Nice work! Looking into a tilt trailer as an upgrade ad the ones I have seen have a fairleeed up on the tilt deck and the winch on the front of the trailer. You have to lock the tilt so the winch doesn't just pull the tilt back flat. Seems like a bunch of torque on the tilt bed for sure
Yeah, there are definitely pros and cons to it but you’re right, seems like a lot of pressure on that hydraulic cylinder for sure. Thanks for your comment 🙏👍🏼
I don't think you can call it a real cuda, only 15% of the original there, you folks are pros 🎉
Any updates?!?! Really looking forward to what y'all are going to do with the Montero.
What l like about this over Graveyard Cars its not scripted
could have saved a LOT ......OF....TIME....by cracking open the FSM. But really fun to watch - I've been putting off doing this on mine. I think I've got a bearing going out and need to check it as well as a new oil pan gasket.
Oh no. The fsm gives instructions here. Dont need to take off axle for the oil pan.
haha - came here to say exactly this. They could have cracked open the FSM and saved themselves a lot of time.
You guys are so much fun to watch
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
I’m performing a rebuild myself at home (91 Montero 3.0 6G72 mated to a 5 speed manual) and would benefit greatly if you decide to rebuild the motor and do a step by step!!! Please!! Looking forward to this series!
To sum up this channel is a bunch of old farts calling themselves bro and dude but they funny af. I hope they find a donor engine or rebuild the motor so i can laugh at them again🤣
We're not THAT old bro... c'mon dude... 😂
JUST SLAP IN NEW SET OF BEARINGS... MAKE IT LIKE HOW AFRICANS DO AND RUN ANOTHER 200K MILES... THOSE MITSUBISHI'S ARE TOUGH!
We've actually thought of that 😂
Stupid.....!😂
That engine needs a rebuilt
Please keep these montero videos coming! I am personally invested!
We’ll definitely keep these coming! 🙌🏼
Get that boy a helmet
Give me some chon chon !!!
Damn that sucks man! The 6g72 12v motor in that Montero was used all the way to I believe 1993 maybe 1994. It wasn't exclusive to Mitsubishi...it was used Dodge Caravans, Stealth, LeBaron, Dynasty, New Yorker , Raider as well when Mitsubishi and Daimler Chrysler teamed up during the 80s and 90s. It was also in the early 90s Mitsubishi Diamante, 3000gt. Montero. You just need to make sure it's the 12 valve version. I hope you guys decide to save this Montero though. If not...someone in the Montero community will surely take it.
yah they used this SOHC up through 93 then it went to DOHC 24v. Was in a BUNCH of Chrysler vehicles, but the Chrysler variant was transmounted and had a different oil pickup and alternator bracket.
Crazy amount of work to just get the oil pan off. I hope you guys rebuild the engine for the video content, but that's just me.

Idioter er der nok af her på UA-cam 😠👎🇩🇰
I rescued an 1989 Montero a year ago and the previous owner said it has a blown head gasket. I confirmed it does so I am seeing my options for a replacement motor or rebuilding the current one. I am a fan of Monteros and I would love to see you guys revive and save this one. They are truly great SUVs and not to mention are becoming more and more sought after. Looking forward to this revival👍
Thanks man. Much appreciated 🙌🏼🙏
MEXICANS !!!
Crusty rusty fuel tanks I use electrolysis (3-5 days). It's simple and very effective, just make sure to remove all traces of fuel.
I have a barn find 91' model with a blown engine. I got a used 50k engine from a FWD Plymouth Acclaim for the upcoming swap. They are great vehicles and wish they still made such a robust 4x4 especially if it had a diesel in the USA.
They sold them as the dodge raider in Canada, very uncommon to find here.
Just put a bottle of Lucas and call it a day
😂🙌🏼
They were sold as the Pajero in Ireland, and the Shogun in the UK and parts of Europe. Petrol versons practically unknown over here, everything came with the 2.5 turbo diesel.
Thanks for the info! Yes, they also had diesel engines. That would be cool but very hard to find here.
I almost bought one. The dealer selling it had it out with a repair manual on the front seat. Needless to say, I did not buy it.
In other parts of the world it's also called a Pajero, also comes as a 2 door
@@ChristopherSmith-rn4wd They sold a 2-door in the US in the '80s under the name of "Urban Commando" and under the Dodge name plate of "Raider."
Would you guys do a rebuild of the engine or try to do some sort of swap?
Not sure yet. I’d love to do a swap but it’s up to Efrain so we will see and keep you guys posted. Thanks for the comment 🙏👍🏼
@@revivalgaragethanks for the reply. I'll be watching.
742 was a better carrier than 489
Trash
You really have to work hard to break a 727. It can be done though, I'm pretty confident I can do this in a short period of time. If you treat it even halfway decent, they go practically forever.
Funny , you did not install the 2 gaskets per side 1 foam gasket between the axel flange and backing plate and 1 steel gasket between the housing and backing plate,,,,see the FSM. Thats why you had so much play, cheers !
Those gaskets are very thin. That wouldn’t done much difference.
Awesome work!
Is that the same car used in starky and hutch..
No, that was a ‘76 Ford Grand Torino 👍🏼
Everyone should have a friend named “Chon”. 😆 Great Job you guys.
Yes! 🙌🏼 Thank you 🙏
Hello for all team first of all you do good job I like spot weld. Can You explain how to do positioning upper cowl to frame and windshield?
We already worked on the front cowl and windshield pillars on a previous video. It's called "Sparks of Skill" Hope it helps. Thanks for the comment.
I set 2 AHRA World Racing Records with mine at the Grand American Nationals at Frontier International Raceway on 5/17/1970 H/OA class.
It's slowly starting to come around you guys are doing great I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's finished
Thanks. We can't wait either¡
I watch a lot of videos on this kind of stuff you guys are doing great keep it up
Thanks! Will do!
Remove the GM guys traction bars that's Mopar blasphemy man ! Adjustable pinion snubber
At least, remove the pistons one at a time and make sure the rings aren't stuck. Better yet remove the engine and re-build it.
Is this the one you had for sale on the market place for 37 or38 k or something
Yes 👍🏼
@@revivalgarage what happened decided to keep it and build it? And cool videos look forward to seeing more from the rgv area also
Clearly, you need to get rid of this car asap. I will be over with a trailer in the morning...Your welcome :}
🤣 👍🏼
Why don't you take the engine off and fully rebuild it?
We intend to, and we will, when we restore the car.
