This was awesome. I have the 533H and it just recently started getting the E48 code. I’m going to try the “remove power” trick to see if it will reformat the drive and put me back in business. And yeah, I’m a bit past the middle age demographic. Have had the machine about 12 years. 😉
Hi @TurboNorm. You should just have to install the new drive and perform the Skip 079 button combination at 6:23 in the video and it should take you to the formatting option.
@@piosvideolab3025 . Thanks for a quick reply to an old thread. I actually ran the SKIP 079 procedure on the current drive and it came back to life. Yeah I lost the files on there, but just some old TV programs I'll live without. I have 55K hours on that thing, so I may actually have to replace it someday soon. 🙂
Well everyone has different taste & ideas so let it be
14 years ago I had this type of software it worked for me
For the holes you can clean with a vacuum cleaner too
And for the clean freaks use a Q-tip with rubbing alcohol
Don't forget to clean your VCR with a self-cleaning cassette.
I disagree with the comment below me about transferring vcr tapes to dvds. Thats bullshit about the Mpeg format for dvds. I have done this for over 20 years and was happy with the results. I still dont own a flat acreen tv in 2024 because alot of what I watch isnt in HD picture. I still prefer the crt television set like my Sony Wega 32" CRT. Ive had it since i purchase it back in August of 2007 and still going strong.
I Tried connecting my ipad pro 11 to hdmi, casts but not sounds
Hi Pitzky, my guess would be it has to do with the card having to obey HDCP protocol. You might be able to feed the HDMI into an HDMI audio extractor device that can pull the audio from the HDMI via RCA cables and feed that signal into the card.
Nice vid, but lose the background music. It's distracting and not needed. Otherwise quite an informative presentation. Your diction is excellent!
Has anyone tried the 1tb drive upgrade? How did it work out?
Frame rate capped at 60hz but eh
im not planning on doing anything, i was just curious how the hell this is done, random thought
So if you have a ADVC-3000 then is best to just capture via it's own DV/1394 output to firewire on the pc and just eliminate any sort of capture card at all then? Or were you not happy with the quality of the firewire capture?
Hi @edoneill6701, with the Firewire DV method, you're capturing compressed and then you're going to compress it again when going to DVD or another playback method. The ADVC-3000 allows component output, that along with the Intensity Pro card, I can capture in a lossless codec and have a better starting point in terms of quality. Although, keep in mind you'll need the drive speed and capacity if your capturing lossless.
@@piosvideolab3025 Thank you so much for the reply. I have a Sony DVMC-DA2 analog to dv convertor, and it works, but I was trying to explore options for even better capture from VHS. And have started searching youtube to find higher quality capture methods. On the forums people seem to rave about going back to an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER, but I was hoping there was other alternatives without having to use outdated PC hardware/software just to run such an old video card.
How would you connect two vcrs, one with recording capabilities, (DVD recorder).to an older TV, Sony Bravia (2013), I think the tern is 'piggybackl'.
Hi, @lisaowens5070. If I'm understanding correctly, you'll want to go from the output of the playback VCR, to the input of the DVD recorder. Then from the output of the DVD recorder to the Sony TV. You may want to see if you can find an owner's manual from the DVD recorder manufacture for any fine tune detail settings.
hi was using a tiger tv card for years yes i know they are not great ok for watching out video's in to the computer i have a mate he's a older than me he still using vhs because he don't understand the new way i have all the new computer editing there's only one bad thing is the ports in the mother pcb's and the new kinds of video digi recorders out there now one good thing because digi computer editing has come alot alot are now selling there pro video deck like the beacam m2000p decks i only see betacam A500P decks in the uk i have 11 of this range all working if i need a older video look i dig them out only use betacam 75p decks for audio now as they have the jog wheel you can do alot of audio play back things a lot think betacam is old juck the number of decks working in the uk is down it's down because of me i have been buying them i have alot of them in the usa there's alot of vhs decks in good will like places not over here my mate works in one he said don't see many now
My Philips just died. Hoping I can swap out the Drive.
Great video! I just got one from Goodwill today to record old home movies and & composite out to the tv but it only displays when I plug in HDMI output. Is there a setting in the menu to change output display or is my system defective? I don't want to buy a remote for it if it doesn't work. Thanks in advance.
Hi Chris, you may check to see if "Progressive Mode" is set to on, when it is, the Video and S-Video out ports won't function. Also, if your unit didn't come with the manual you should still be able to download a copy of it from Magnavox's website.
@@piosvideolab3025 I appreciate the fast response! I'll look for the manual now & order the remote.
Sorry, but I can stand his voice.
I don't like your comment, but here we are.
You must be great at parties.
I have been using my Magnavox 500 gig DVR to record from a camera for years. I'd love to be able to record longer without having to empty out the memory. I hope this video is a way to do this.
If you need belts my dad showed my when I was a young child in iirc like 1st grade or so using a 15 year old sony vcr from the early 90s.. within the last few remaining years that we used that vcr before iirc taking it apart an throwing it away since it had served beyond the able to be set to the current year ie for the lcock set as that used to be sometjing that felt important was always setting the correct day date and time fwiw idk why... ig because in my life vcrs always have upon plugging in and or regaining electricity after a power outage fwiw before itd show the picture itd have a blue on tv scren and clock and year set prompt... iirc it would not go up any higher year 1997 or 98 fwiw or posobly 02 but not 08 or 09 lols.. ig it was in the programming that it was not expected to be needed to go up more than from 92 to ig over 7 years into the future from the date it was built lols.. that a rubber band can work for it if it is sized to be one that fits suitably fwiw ftw.
Ftw as itd be my secret withiut gettting out of bed to see a digital clock or turn lights on in my room for seeing the analog wall clock.. to hope an avoid waking or being caught not sleeping but watching tv heheeh before the clock read 6am or so fwiw if I could not sleep an was bored., id watch a vhs movie liek charlottes web or even 2 in a row to pass the time or play mario on the dsi xl hehehe.. man nostalgia
Oh nvm my bad I was thinking a tv vcr not a audio cassetter type of deck. Sorry idk if the belts are as big in those So may need a pretty tiny band of rubber to fit the gears/pulleys.

I bought one last year. It always has trouble with audio sync when capturing to uncompressed video, even though it's just SD. Compressed video does not seem to have the problem. And it's not a storage or computer bottleneck; it's running with a Ryzen 9 5950X, 64GB Ram, and dedicated (as in, not the boot drive) 2TB Samsung PCIE 4 NVMe drive. BTW, Blackmagic's website no longer mentions the TBC capability of this device.
Thanks for putting this video together - did you, by any chance, notice a difference in the performance of the unit with an SSD compared to the stock drive? I'm thinking specifically of the clip browser loading times, page turns, etc.
I’ve got the 3575H unit that originally came with a 160GB PATA drive. I bought a SATA converter card and popped a 500GB SATA drive in the unit since it maxes out at 500GB. One thing to note is that most of these recorders only recognize 512 byte sectoring. If you try to use an SSD with 4K sectors, you may notice errors when erasing recordings and adding new ones. I used a 1TB 4K sectored drive and had that issue. You may try a future test video to see if it really needs 512 byte sectoring.
hello my magnavox dvr mdr557hf7 won't turn on nothing , I check ready cable outlet ,any adviced , I did ready the inside reset bottom not work Thank you
Sounds like a possible power supply issue.
You might be able to find a replacement power supply. Really depends on your comfort level around power supply components and such as to whether you should attempt to replace it.
Not sure if you're still using this PC, but I have one as well. I'm waiting on a Radeon HD 7750. It's single slot, has plenty of power for XP gaming, and is only 55 watts. Plus, it has HDMI.
Mine doesn't get much use, but I did replace the graphics card I originally put in there with a GeForce GT 430 I found at a thrift store for $15. Still in box.
Hello great video!!! Have you tried using it with older consoles? Like N64, PS2 etc?? Have you used it with Marseille’s mClassic?
I agree with all's been said in that video and i'm not a beginner. But theres other way to do it to have a better video quality from the VHS but not a easier way. Today the DVD are may not dead but almost, because its now way better into MP4 video files, first the MP4 format are now compatible with almost all today's devices, DVDs are not, Blu Ray neather. Second for DVDs you've got to have a DVD player to play them and MP4 video files are free region, DVDs are not. But for beginners to convert them into MP4 format just like i did when i was a beginner and if you are not much famillyar with computers, the easier way is to record them to DVD than from the DVD download them in your computer and with a software you convert your videos into MP4. You can even re-touch the videos quality than finalized them to MP4. DVDs can be scratch really too much easilly, MP4s can be copied as many times that you want and specialy into harddrives (the safer way) At my advice convert a video tape into 1280 by 720p MP4 video file is less worst into HDTVs & 4K TVs than a DVD video picture because a standart DVD as only 720 by 480p picture vs 1280 by 720p MP4. But personnaly now i convert them into 1706 by 960p because it gives a bigger picture and very close to FULL HD ( a clearer picture too) But i'm not sayin that you will get a FULL HD picture, no! just a clearer picture than a standard DVD and clearer picture than 1280 by 720p picture format. If you prefer, a sharper picture... Today don't even need a driver to have the VHS picture to my pc, i simply use a RCA converter straight to HDMI than from my HDMI cable into a USB converter and my picture is sharper this way. But i now only need a videocapture software and that's it, no driver needed😉
Excellent review. Your video was enough to push me over the edge and I'm glad I did it. This switch is absolutely awesome for power users.
Ugh. The "+" and "-" crap. I have two recorders, and plenty of DVD RW's! They both spit them out, except for my mini dvd rw. That is the only "-" dvd rw in my stash. Bonus points to the Sansutsi for having it's drive just... Not work for some reason. It never spins, but the optical pickup does atleast DO something. Thankfully that thing is just IDE, and it accepts other drives too. Maybe someone can rig up a dvd burner emulator so that the optical drive can be replaced with a high end microcontroller and SDCard. Or better yet, get one of those USB composite dongles and gut the recorder for parts.
If you don't want it I will certainly buy it from you
I have had it for 6 years now and it has never worked, thanks to your video on UA-cam, by adjusting some settings BlackMagic Design Intensity Pro 4K works perfectly and can serve what I bought it for, thank you again greetings Frank,
So I don't need to test this Roxio video grabber either because, like all the USB2 video grabbers I tested, it can be classified as electronic waste. My opinion as a TV engineer😉
can you change to IT mode ?
Is this a "how to " video or advert for Walmart ?
How was fast-forward after you upgraded to SSD? Was there any difference in the fast forwarding appearance like less jumping and smoother? What are your better options for VHS to digital? Are any of them using the HDMI output and an Elgato PCI card?
You know, I don't recall ever thinking to test that. As for my other capture option, I feed my VCR signal into an ADVC 3000 which seems to help sync video & audio and send that to a Blackmagic Intensity 4K PCI card.
I have a proven method that's better than anything you suggested. I let my wife do it.
Hello can u make review for cannopus advc 3000?
yes please
I have had one of these units for a decade or so. It worked great until about 2 months ago. Now, it seems to lose its mind looking for channels I ask it to record. It’s hit and miss. Is there some sort of hard reset somewhere? Or is there an onboard battery that could be weak? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I don't use this unit on a daily basis myself, but from the few forums I've looked at it might be the way some channels are encrypted from your TV provider through those cable boxes they provide. Although, it might just be a case of just re-scanning the channels through the Magnavox to see if that works.
do you recomend obs to capture?
For my VHS tapes I've been using the Media Express program that was made for BlackMagic Video Capture devices. However, I've used OBS with other sources such as computer screen captures and other HDMI sources and I think it's a fine capture software.
do you recomend obs to capture?
Great review! Thank you
Mold occurs on vhs tape. It is removable, but is a hassle.
I picked up one of these also at a thrift store. There were a lot of home movies on the drive that i assume were VHS transfers to DVD. I saw on a forum that you could extract the videos from the drive by dumping the entire raw contents of the drive to a file on a PC and running a media recovery program on it. When i did this i discovered quite a few pornos that had been deleted from the machine long with the family videos.
Well I have the Panasonic VHS DVD player recorder DMR-ES46V to record from one format to the other
LETS GO NEW PIO VIDEOOOO
Great video
Thank you!
@@piosvideolab3025 thanks
The original bios is A00. I had an A00 system, but I fried the bios mid-flash. Had to replace the board, and now have an A05 system.
Vhs tapes
4 years later, but I guess any image input to OBS from an external source usually has an audio lag. You have to specify at post. Look at how many miliseconds of difference you have, and then maybe is fixed if it's adjusted at OBS the ms difference. Even then, maybe you have a difference. IDK but that's how i solved some issues like that.
I ended up getting an HDMI to RCA adapter to output the audio from an HDMI source such as Blu-Ray to fix the audio distortion, and had to play around with the audio delay as well to get it synced up.
