I played bass for 17 years in a horn band in Virginia that played anything from Sinatra and Duke Ellington to Chicago, Tower of Power, and a lot of Motown and Stax/Volt (I had to step down in 2016 due to several medical conditions that have left me unable to walk or stand). For a good number of those 17 years, we had a real rock-oriented rhythm section, and we blew the doors off of this tune because it was one of the few real rockers included in our swing- and pop-heavy dance sets. It was a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. We had several different excellent drummers over the years, but my favorite guy on this tune (Buzzy) came out of the Cozy Powell mold; ie., the kind that likes to drive the band. David, the guitarist, had Hendrix-like sensibilities and talent; he did a very close version of Terry's incredible guitar solo. We three, and our keyboard player Gary, made a great section because we had the chops to finesse the jazz and pop songs, and then go balls-to-the-wall when playing something that called for it. Those were great days.
