    My wife and daughter are traveling to Europe this spring. They needed water filters to make sure they didn't get sick on anything in the water we are not used to in the States. The Grayl was the only bottle I was familiar with, and was going to buy them those. However, after watching a number of reviews, they would have shot me for having to go through that pressing process every time. What a pain. They are huge water drinkers. The Lifestraw Go was the only choice. It should be more than sufficient for any of the developed countries they will be traveling to. I see many of the posts say the Lifestraw does not filter viruses. The bottles we bought say the lifestraw filters 99.999 percent of bacteria and parasites. Viruses are rarely a problem in developed countries. Just a post for anyone needing a filter for traveling. Out in the wild is a different set of circumstances.

    The Appalachian part of Ohio is beautiful. Mount Logan is only about a 30min drive from Columbus it's breath taking every time I see it driving down US-23. Too bad our mountains don't get much recognition as mountains just because they're not the biggest mountains in america. Still they're beautiful.

    Do you have some tips for striking the pyrite? My teenager is trying to do it but keeps breaking the pyrite into smaller chunks.

    • @ericoseitz
      @ericoseitz Місяць тому

      It may be easier to strike the pyrite against the steel and spray the sparks down into a container of charred punk wood. You don’t have to hit it hard. It should just be a glancing blow. You’re just shaving material off. To practice, you could have him slowly swipe past the striker without hitting it. After he’s done that for a few minutes, have hit gently make contact with the striker. Then put it all together to make sparks.

      I’ve had a couple devices with lithium batteries do this. If you have a wall charger with a quick charge 3.0 port, you can try that. They run at different voltages and can sometimes wake the battery up. Some lithium batteries go into a sleep mode if not used for prolonged periods of time. You can also try holding the power button when you plug it in. I’ve had this work with a power bank, headlamp, and biolite 2. If all else fails try calling customer support. They can let you know if the steripen has a sleep mode and how to reset it.

    I've had the Jura 2 for a few years. It is by far the best sleeping bag I have owned, and I've been a camper for over 60 years. Super durable, and very warm. I am a cold sleeper, so I find that I start getting cold at anything below freezing, but a good bag liner and some good thermal base layers gets me toasty down to well below. If I am car camping, or on my boat, I also take a light down quilt, which cures any amount of cold. The top zipper is awesome. It works great in a hammock, but it's very convenient in any camping situation. There are lighter and warmer bags out there, but for the money I think it's a crazy good piece of kit.

    Thanks for mentioning the length calculation. I presume you mean 1.08. I've heard that "composite" poles are the best type for being bent. They're used on some Australian swag bivvys. Im thinking of making a frame like this, i thought I'd have to sew four triangles together to made a dome, but it looks like a rectangle works fine for you here.

    • @PioneerSurvivalCompany
      @PioneerSurvivalCompany 7 місяців тому

      I was thinking 8% longer when I said that. So the pole length would be the distance diagonally from grommet to grommet, plus 8% of that length.

  • @zacharyanguiano1776
    @zacharyanguiano1776 8 місяців тому

  • @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
    @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 8 місяців тому

    210T polyester is not ripstop nylon they two completely different fabrics, polyester is typically not quite as strong and durable as nylon but is generally cheaper in cost. You have to keep in mind the price of the poncho vs materials, if you want one with heavy grommets it'll cost more, if you want one with actual ripstop nylon it'll cost more. I have used several of these and haven't had any problems really with the grommets, but then again I don't intentionally tear them out and since you can sew make a heavy duty poncho and sell it for $20-$25 dollars shipped and I'll buy them lol.

    • @alliswell-pb9vo
