Redfield South Dakota Public Land Pheasant Hunting
Rusty and I drove from CT to SD during Christmas to hunt some public land roosters. We harvested two birds in this spot, but due to a dead go pro battery, only one bird was filmed . Towards the end of the video, Rusty finds what I thought was a porcupine at the time, but I am unsure if SD has porcupines. It could of been a woodchuck, but didn't want her grabbing it, so I grabbed her and got her out of there. We drove 1600 miles each way to hunt wild roosters, but it was definitely worth it!

Rusty found us our limit of pheasant and then found a quail on our way out but unfortunately I missed the shot. Flaherty is one of the biggest and nicest places to upland hunt, if you have never been definitely go check it out.

Nice work, guys! I would be surprised to learn of a porcupine as far east as Redfield, but maybe. I wonder if it wasn't a muskrat? We do have woodchucks, but it seems like an odd area for one of them to be. Regardless, good call getting Rusty out of there.
Ya, it definitely was odd and caught me off guard, I thought of the worst case scenario of it being a porcupine and pulled her away. We are used to hunting woods where porcupines are common. I slowed it down in the video, but the camera didn't catch a good picture of it. Glad rusty didnt get hurt and we could continue hunting.Thanks for watching! Can't wait to visit SD again some day!
The last time I hunted Pa. was 1989, after hunting there my entire life of 25 years, moving to the Pacific North West & BC Can. for a spell & settling in Ne., & the hunting being a dream-come-true I thought I would never look back, but now, aging, the memories with my Father & a few best friends are so special, I miss it terrible, but realize there is no going back & it would not only not be the same, it would even be depressing & probly damage my fond memories,...that said, Thanks fer sharing this video & for giving me the moment to reminisce.
