ArcGIS Pro: Layer to KML
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Рік тому
This video covers how to take a layer in ArcGIS Pro and export it as a KML that will open in Google Earth/My Maps. The video shows how to open this file in Google Earth - I am a fan of the tour function within Google Earth. The same KML could also be opened in Google My Maps if that is preferred (not in video).
ArcGIS Pro: Custom Sort
Переглядів 211Рік тому
This video provides an example of how you can do a Custom Sort in the attribute table of ArcGIS Pro. This is similar to Excel in terms of the Levels for sorting. The video specifies what I want to first sort on (priority) followed by then the highest relative risk score (rrs). In short, I want to know the highest risk cells within the priority cells.

CrimeStat IV: Primary File and Spatial Descriptives
Переглядів 530Рік тому
This video covers how to upload a point file into CrimeStat IV and set the XY Coordinates to run a Standard Deviational Ellipse and Mean Center calculation. I go back and forth between ArcGIS Pro and CrimeStat to walkthrough the files I am using and where I am obtaining the information. At the end, the output from CrimeStat are brought back into ArcGIS Pro to display the Mean Center and Standar...
CrimeStat IV: Introduction & How to Download
Переглядів 751Рік тому
CrimeStatIV is a free spatial stats program that does not get enough attention/use in my opinion. I used it throughout graduate school and occasionally while at UA but have not in a few years. Now that Twitter reminded my of CrimeStat, figured I could make a series on some of the tools within CrimeStat. I have not used every tool/function in CrimeStat so it will take some time. CrimeStat has a ...
SPSS: Introduction & How to Open a Dataset
Переглядів 433Рік тому
This is the start of a new series/playlist on SPSS. These will mostly be tailored videos to what students have questions/needs for when using SPSS. Personally, I do not use SPSS as much as I did in graduate school so there might be better/quicker ways to complete tasks. The video goes through how to start with opening SPSS, finding the Options to customize SPSS to your liking, then a quick how ...
Excel: =SWITCH function to recode
Переглядів 252Рік тому
This video provides an example of how to use =SWITCH to do just that, switch the coding of a field. You might be interested in taking a text/string field and converted to a numeric value or a numeric value to text. The video uses example data from the ATS with incident success as an outcome that is recoded a couple different ways.
Excel: =UNIQUE function to generate list
Переглядів 106Рік тому
The video covers how to use =UNIQUE function to generate a list of all 311 sub-category options within a dataset. To the name itself, each unique value is returned without duplication. Here, I wanted to make a quick list of the 311 sub-categories without anything else attached, so I used =UNIQUE. The video also covers how you could use a Pivot Table to generate the same list.
ArcGIS Pro: Multiple Spatial Joins for Counts to Identify Top Neighborhoods
Переглядів 540Рік тому
Have a student working on a project wanting to identify top neighborhoods for crime across multiple years. This video covers how to do multiple spatial joins of crime counts within block groups in Little Rock. The video provides a couple different ways to obtain the count during the Spatial Join. I then cover how to identify the top 10% of neighborhood and dummy code those with "1". After this ...
ArcGIS Pro: How to Dissolve Street Layer and then Planarize
Переглядів 867Рік тому
Crime and place research tends to focus on Streets as a unit of analysis. How streets are used varies. This video discusses how you could clean up your original street layer, removing unnamed and 0 range streets to reduce the street segments to better reflect where crime could be geocoded to within the Street Layer (used to create address locator). Other people discuss using the planarize tool ...
ArcGIS Pro: Generate Near Table to move offset crime points to street centerline
Переглядів 748Рік тому
The video covers how to use the Generate Near Table to move the crime points that are offset to the street centerline. Once the Near Table is generated, display XY coordinates on the table. The FIDs allow for identification in the original files if you wanted to join/merge back in the crime and/or street data. From here you could get a count of violent crimes by street segment.

can i get your data? pls
Good video! Is there a way for the county names to constantly display instead of appearing only when mouse is hovered?
How do you fix the map if not all counties you have on your data are not populating?
Thank you for showing the export feature!
Hi thanks you for the tutorial. Is it possible to export all articles to excel or one-note rather than selecting one at a time and saving to library
I have the same question! Do you have find a solution? Thanks
where can we found the data that you use ?
The crime data are from LRPD (have data portal) and you can grab the block group population from the US Census.... I'll make more updates in the near future
ur video about joining xy data to a multiple ring buffer saved my life and my grade. thank u very much !
Idk why this was recommended to me. But I feel informed now 😹
🙏
Muy buenas tardes. Muy interesante software, hay alguna capacitación en español?
Sir awaiting for your next tutorial
Clear, succint and to the point. Just what I needed. Fantastic, thank you!
"Promosm"
Your videos have been so helpful to help me understand how to effectively transform mundane spreadsheets into communication devices! Thanks for all your efforts and I really appreciate your channel!
Thank you for the kind words! Feel free to send suggestions, I am going to try to stay more consistent with content uploads going forward
There is a huge descrimination in your data. When the criminal is a Muslim, then it's about a Muslim extremist, otherwise, it's any kind of names. A criminal is a criminal.
*Promosm* 🤩
very useful, may i ask you to explain more about crime tools?
Hi there, Crime Analyst here. Do you need to use a whole year’s worth of data in order for this tool to run properly? Thank you so much for posting this video.
Hey! No, an entire year is not needed (I had used a file I just cleaned). I would pay closer attention to how many incidents/calls you have in a given timespan. For instance, if you wanted to look at theft, given how common it is relative to other crime types, a week/month would provide useful results. Could be used more tactical. On the other hand, if you were to only look at homicide, more time would be needed to find meaningful patterns here.
"Is it possible to calculate a regression between certain criteria based on an index? For example, could we create a map showing the relationship between crime and distance to various land uses by collecting data on crime and its distance from different land uses, and then analyzing this data using regression analysis?
Within the regression, what are you trying to predict here? In general, there are known relationships between land-use and crime outcomes
Would be great if you had an exercise file for viewers to follow along and try this along side the video
The data are all open - Little Rock data portal has the crime data and block groups. The census has ACS (I used social explorer to grab it quickly).... With that, I will have a couple OER textbooks in the near future with everything 'built-in' for public use as well
Very useful , Thank you (in the environment window we can mask raster via boundary in the Raster analysis like defining extent)
Excellent, make more videos about spatial statistics please.
I'm not in your classes, but I find your videos very clear and I'm learning a lot about the software you use. Thanks!
Ah thank you for the kind words! Glad you find it useful - if you ever have questions/want a specific video, let me know.
How do you add the latitude and longitude from an address in Excel without the Null and the lat/longs that are already there?
For an address that does not have the Lat/Long available? You would have to geocode this. I have a "Google Geocoding" video studio.ua-cam.com/users/videohkpnq0uotsI/edit and "Excel VBA for Geocoding with Google" studio.ua-cam.com/users/videoEReEkpReSl8/edit
This has been a great tool but I have a problem. When I carry put the function the latitude and longitude outputs are displayed as -338585403 and 1511166430 not as -33.4800462, 150.1389424 which is needed to plot it on a map. Its a large dataset so cannot do this manually. How can it be solved?
It is kicking back the incorrect Lat/Long? Making sure that is the main problem versus adding in the decimal place
@@CrimeWithGrant The addresses are correct, but I found that simply dividing by 1,000000 give a plotable point on GIS (which is correct).
I've always liked excel, the more you work, the more you learn. like always I've learned a lot.
Thank you for the answer 👍 sometimes cleaning up the local cache may helps to speed up .
Thank you for this useful video .🙏🙏 i think we can use Zonal statistics to calculate value of the raster (kernel's output) in the fishnet created before. what do you think about it?
Yes! Completely agree that Zonal Stats could be used. More out of preference I do the points. Made this video to tie to Zonal: ua-cam.com/video/7KcbhM5FfWE/v-deo.html
Is possible to change the color of the dots based on the type of crime?
I will play around with this over the next couple weeks. I imagine you could assign different sheets specific crime types then add them as a layer if there are not symbology options based on unique values within the ArcGIS add-in. I'm interested to see what is possible here now.
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/z3nqPlrIKXo/v-deo.html
Would love to see you do a video on predictive analysis either in ArcGIS or just in an Excel spreadsheet to predict when the next incident may occur and what time
Depending on the level of predictive analysis you have in mind, will touch on some of this shortly. Going to do a series on the Crime Analysis Toolset for ArcGIS Pro
@@CrimeWithGrant awesome. I look forward to it.
Very helpful - thank you!
promosm 🙏
Very useful my friend
