FC3S RX7 gets Flyin' Miata Frame Rails
Miata parts on a FC RX7? "Nani!"
A long time ago I saw that someone on the RX7 Club Forum retrofitted V8 Roadster frame rails on the FC. Of course I wanted to try it for myself. If you aren't familiar with FCs, almost 99% of the cars have damaged frame rails due to improper jacking. I opted for the Flyin' Miata Frame Rails for the NA/NB Miata. Mostly because of the looks. The only issues I discovered were the mounting brackets for the fuel rails and brake lines. U.S Passenger side is way easier since nothing gets routed along that frame rail. Overall I'm happy with the fact that the car can now be supported on the frame rails. I'll eventually see if the X-Brace fits the car or not. But for now I'm happy with the results.

Hoshiko FC3S gets Techno Toy Supension Upgrades

As my FC is on the back burner, we turn our attention and focus to Caleb's FC also known as Hoshiko. I had met with the Techno Toy team at a local old school japanese car meet in SoCal last year. The AE86 gets a JSP Billet Catch Can / Overflow Bottle. Why?? So we could consolidate space in the engine bay! The bracket supplied offers some adjustability. This helps for those that welded on chassis reinforcement plates. JSP was nice enough to ship the part full assembled. I like it a lot. Barely an assist. So it still feels like the oem PS unit but instead I have way more space and -1 in fluids to maintain. Right now the only contemplation is if I want to keep the PBM knuckles since the steering is so damn fast with the reduced Ackerman

      @@Gabrielized. thats awesome to hear man I've been considering it for my ae86 after my last track day with 100 treadwear tires and manual steering it was crazy heavy the steering was, also curious how you liked the chase bays brake kit, I tried the T3 delete and hated it and ended up going with the small booster which has been working great but now chasing some pad knockback issues ( always something lol) awesome channel man, just subbed today. @@xorzero I'll be doing the same kit on the 86. I'm having the same issues with 200TW tires and -3.5° of front camber. As for the Chase Bays BBE it takes some adjustment. Everyone is used to power brakes so it throws people off at the effort to come to a complete stop. I wouldn't recommend it for regular street use unless you want the aesthetics of it and space savings. First couple laps on track was weird I felt I was going to miss the timing of the braking because I wasn't used to gauging how much to press on the pedal. After a few laps I got it down and what I noticed was it was always a consistent feeling as I started figuring out the effort needs for the output of braking I wanted. I could see someone locking up the brakes easily if they straight leg press the pedal.

      @@Gabrielized. yea I didn’t modify the pedal so and it had the stock brake master cylinder so it just felt really awkward and I was locking up after an entire day of practice on track, so decided to go back to the flos small booster which has been working well. I built my own for my fc. (88 turbo 2) I connected the front sub to the rear sub with 3/16 cold pressed steel. I reinforced the floor and pinch points and welded the frame rails with 3” staggered beads. My cage is connected to the frame rails I installed. Completely different car when hitting the hard switch backs . I use a LQ4 with a Muncie 4 speed transmission and a Chrysler 2:65 diff with a full spool. Next I’m going to fit some gtr wheels with 275/35/20 front and 305/30/20 rear which means WIDE as HELL body kit that nobody makes so I will be doing some fiberglass work soon. As soon as I’m satisfied with everything I will be posting the entire build sheet with pictures/videos as the car will have it’s own page once finished. Not sure what I’m going to name her yet. She will be painted an old school Dodge color so she will be hard to miss. Panther Pink with dark bronze wheels.

    • @Gabrielized.
      @Gabrielized. 3 місяці тому

      It could be due to the orientation of the knuckle itself in particular the section that bolts to the strut. It's been a few years but I recall taking the car to an alignment and noticing the reduction in caster. Then when I went back to get another alignment (post supernow bushings) I gained some of it back.

      I do grip driving. The steering gets really fast. Ackerman gets reduced but not to zero so still good for road courses. @@supradoom it does take significant effort for regular street driving. On track the first few laps threw me off but I quickly got a gauge for the pressure required to brake according to the output that I wanted. Overall I really like the set up. How does the chase bays brake booster delete feel during braking?

      It was a consistent feel on every lap. It did take me a few laps to get comfortable with the braking pressure. Overall I'm super happy with the way it feels on track.

    Have the same problem on my AE86, the bar doesn't line up. I'll try your tip on lifting one side up.

    Hey can you do a review of these? Was debating about them as I have all T3 stuff but stock knuckles. Let me know how they feel

      Initial impressions. It did get easier to steer the wheel but it’s still isn’t power steering. I’m on a manual rack. I’ll know more after the next track day.

      Thanks for letting me know. Do you have the quick rack by Flo's or just stock manual rack? I too am on the manual rack so I'd be interested to hear more. @@Gabrielized.
