Hey Ninqi, Thanks for your view and comment.. I use bake and bend forv the flexibilty and less breakage of the finished art work. i did 1,200 pins in 2003 for The Race for the Cure and I have observed their quality and endurance 16 years later with friends of mine who were survivors of breast cancer. the oins look like they were just made. I paint the details on each piece after I have baked the appropriate colors of clay and then seal the colors with a matte finish. I apply each layer of clay...first the silouette of a lady's face, as the base, then the hat and hair...andf bake and then the scarf and tiny pins that go on the hat . and bake again for shorter times. If i need to mold a piece I use the Bake and bend to make a mold which is so much more flexible after baking and cooling. Then i pour Ice water into the mold and push fresh bake and bend into the mold and get a perfectly pressed product with all the little details intact. OPtherwise the piece being molded sticks. All of my bases were molded that way...the faces...but i also changed the shapes and configurations on each face and on each hairstyle per pin. The hair, hats, scarves and pins were all done by applique...by hand. It is harder to get Bake and bend, but it is available at the compny that produces in large quantities. On the last 500 pieces i did they were kind enough to donate over 6 pounds of bake and bend because it was for a charity as worthy as The Race for the Cure. I estimate that i have created at least 40,000 pins and necklaces for otehr projects as well such as Broadway musical and theatrical pins. I hope this helps you in your work. I am available here at any time for questions. I had hoped to create a book on the use of B+B with photos to demonstrate the many processes i have learned or developed. Bake and Bend is the perfect medium when i make glass christmas ornaments. It bakes beautifully over glass in the oven, and is flexible enough should it come off at any point to simply superglue it back onto the glass with a few dabs of glue.
