Minister James Shabazz was known as "The Son of Thunder" as a dynamic Minister and speaker. Unfortunately, he was gunned down on September 4, 1973 on his driveway. His son, James ibn Shabazz immediately took over as the Minister at Mosque #25 in Newark. He has since been the Imam at Masjid William Salaam in Norfolk, VA, where famed Psychologist Dr. Na'im Akbar (Luther X) was also the Imam and he's now the Imam at the Martinsville Islamic Center in Martinsville, VA. He was interviewed a year ago regarding the holy month of Ramadan. Check out this interview: ua-cam.com/video/zKa30OZxwKc/v-deo.html

Tribute to my mentor, a great lady of substance and character! I had the privilege of working for and with her during this time. She trained me to be professional. She poured into me. She was instrumental in forming my character. I thank God for her life. I was with her during this time when we sold $5 shares to open the Harlem Consumers Cooperative Supermarket up on 147th St (?) It was a wonderful time in Harlem! Everyone was a shareholder. We owned something that they were proud of, but the powers that be were threatened by its success and ....it got ugly. The rest is history.

+Gloria J. Arnold Hi Gloria - Yes, I too worked for The Honorable Cora T. Walker. I was a young woman attending Kingsborough Community College at the time. I had to work for an attorney before I could graduate College. I was interviewed by Ms. Walker. She hired me for six month and gave me a satisfactory grade which was what qualified me land a permanent job with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. What a powerful, smart, determined woman. I was so honored to be able to work with her - even though it was just for six months.
