Congrats! I have the same mcat and same background in business, I would love to see your school list
What Medschool are you in if you don’t mind and thanks for the tips.
Watching this in 2024! You’re such a positive soul. I’ve just been accepted to Rice!!
Congrats on your acceptance to Rice! That's amazing <3
Thank you for this video! I’m an MBA grad, also working full time, and currently studying for the MCAT.
No way!! That's so cool. Good luck on the MCAT :)
what was your undergrad gpa?
great info keep up the good work!
Interesting. So, essentially you use a personal letter that you wrote to your attending physician as a personal letter to the colleges you applied to?
Congratulations! How was your MCAT?
Thank you ❤
Thank you!!!!
How long after testing, doing the exam you received the results?
Hi Jessica. Thankyou so much for making this video. As a non traditional pre med student myself planning to do a diy post bac, every information is super helpful. Will it be possible to meet with you one on one like on a zoom or teams meeting ? I have so many questions and I am feeling a bit lost.
Hi! Email me at jessicakent38@gmail.com or IG @jessicak38 and we can talk offline. :)
@@jessicakent308 Hi, I followed you a couple weeks ago on IG :-)
Good evening Jessica! You probably won’t see this but if you do, is it possible for you to list all of your resources you used? Possibly give an estimate as how much you spent? If not, that’s fine! Just trying to see where I need to get started. 😊
Hi, did you do your DIY through a community college or a state uni? Thanks! 😊
I did some at a community college and most at a very small state college (it was not a university by any means or highly ranked college).
@@jessicakent308 Thank you for sharing! Your story is inspiring!
This is very helpful. Thank youu
Girl, your hustle is seriously inspiring!! I am studying rn, this video is a big help for me.
Thank you! Best of luck!!
That’s incredible! Quick question, how were you able to apply and get acceptance without having completing all your prereqs? Did the med school not require you to finish them before applying? This is really insightful as I will also be doing a postbac as a nontrad before applying to med school! All the best!
Good luck with the postbac :). Yes, medical schools do not require you to have all the pre-reqs completed before applying to medical school. You just need to have all the pre-reqs completed prior to enrollment/matriculation (usually around May for most schools I believe). However, having some pre-reqs completed prior to applying is important to show them that you can succeed well in these classes.
@@jessicakent308this is very helpful, thank you! All the best throughout your med journey!!
@@jessicakent308Wow this is great to know! I thought that we needed all of the classes completed prior to applying. Thank you so much for sharing!
Getting a 498 with 2 weeks of studying and no prior exposure sounds incredibly rare and it would be nice if that was made more clear. considering people with pre req courses and months of review under their belt can perform the same. That’s simply mind boggling. Kudos to you.
Did you take your pre-requisites at a 4-year college in the evening? Or formal post bac program?
I did not do a formal post bacc program. I ended up taking the pre-reqs at various 4-year colleges and some community colleges in the area (sometimes up to an hour away) so that it would work around my work schedule. Yes they were in the evening. Some of the classes were hybrid with lectures online and only lab inperson in the evenings. The colleges I took the classes at were by no means large universities. I personally feel that it is okay to take the pre-reqs at a community college or 4-year college and not necessarily a big university such as UW-Madison or the University of Washington or UCLA per say as long as you had an undergraduate degree at a well-established university to prove that you can handle tough courses.
@@jessicakent308 Thank you for this information because I was wondering if it was necessary to take them at a four year university.
Thank you so much for sharing! I've been wondering how to work this out and really appreciate it!
Wow, this is awesome! Congratulations!! How were you able to do the classes around your work schedule? Was it all online?
Thank you!!! A few were online only which allowed me a lot of flexibility. But most classes were hybrid due to COVID. So lectures were online (recorded lectures) while labs were in-person. I specifically took classes that had labs in the evening after work, but this did mean I had to take the pre-reqs at different schools in the area and travel further sometimes.
@@jessicakent308 You made it work! Thank you for sharing🙏🏿
Jessica, is it possible to speak to you over the phone about MCAT preparation?
Can we touch base over email? Jessicakent38@gmail.com. I am in the mist of exams so please give me a little grace in responding back.
can I email you too?
@@adejokea264 sure! Just give me some grace to respond back as I'm finishing up first year
@@jessicakent308hey girl can i email you too?
Helpful. Thanks. ❤️
Hi! I am a nontraditional student studying mcat right now and struggling so much! Could you share the 300 pg psych/soc file you were talking about and any word of advice for the mcat? Like for those who have super low scores.
www.mcatbros.com/mcat-studying-resources (just scroll down and you can download a digital version of the 300pg document). My advice is to just be patient with yourself. If you have been studying for a very long time for the MCAT ie. 4 months without much score improvement, reflect if it is truly the content knowledge you are lacking or the way you are approaching/understanding the question. Good luck!!
This is so helpful! Thanks! I'm in a similar boat, and I've been trying to figure out how to do all of this. I appreciate the video!
Thank you for sharing. I see why you were accepted.
Hi, may you kindly share amazon links to the study material you used?
I’m working full-time and studying right now, this was the video I needed! Thank you! Wish you the best Dr. Kent ❤
Nice work, you’re going to be a great doctor.
I see that you took your mcat in April, were you able to get your results before submitting the primary applications? I also do plan on taking it this April, is it a good idea?
Yes! My results came in the same day I was able to submit my primary application. I took my MCAT at the end of April
@@jessicakent308 how is it possible to get the results the same day?
The mcat score release date just happened to be the same day amcas allowed us to submit the primary application. The aamc will tell you what day mcat scores will be released based on your test date
Can you apply without finishing all your prereqs..?
Yes you can apply without finishing all the pre reqs! You can also apply without your MCAT too but some schools may hold your application until they recieve your score. Personally I'd recommend applying with a score so you make a more informed decision of what schools to apply to
Are you still working while in med school?
No, I am not working in medical school. I'm in an accelerated curriculum so it would be hard to work and go to school at the same time...
This is awesome, was your post-bacc online?
No it was hybrid! Most lectures were online while labs were inperson due to covid
Very impressive. Just wondering if you had patient-care experience, extracurricular activities, or doctor shadowing experience prior to applying.
I did! I actually had these experiences never intending to go to medical school. It was just I loved volunteering at the hospitals and working with patients. Prior to my MBA, I worked full-time as a Patient Oncology Coordinator and a year volunteering at a Children's Hospital. I also had other experiences from working as a physical therapy intern and volunteering with the Vasculitis Foundation. In terms of doctor shadowing hours, I didn't have many hours as a traditional applicant (ie. less than 40 hours?) I don't remember specifics.
Thanks very much. I am currently a Medical Lab Technologist and looking for patient care roles.
Are there any particular strategy you can put forth how to approach the CARS section? Thanks!
Sure, but take it with a grain of salt as I scored pretty much similar to my first practice exam and the real exam. I would do the AAMC CARS question bank or Jack Westin, I felt like those were most helpful. With each sentence, as I read I would summarize back the gist of the main point of the sentence. This helped me get a full picture of what was happening as I read and actively recalled the passage. Sometimes with questions, it's more about excluding which answer is wrong and then selecting whichever one was left, if I got stuck on a question. I know it's easy to highlight everything in the passage but try to be selective on what you highlight, such as key words or main points (opinions, events, etc) in the passage.
this is amazing! so you finished pre-reqs first and then started studying?
Thank you! No, I actually took the MCAT before finishing most of the prerequisites. I only had a few classes under my belt before I took the MCAT and finished most of them after the exam. I started studying for the MCAT when I started my prerequisites. I did create a video on the timeline of when I took the MCAT and my pre-reqs time line.
How much of U World did you complete? How many hours did you average of studying per day working full-time?
I had around 350 ish questions left. Most were CARS questions that I didn't do for Uworld. I studied 4-5 hours during the week day and I often did practice problems that correlated with my pre med classes if possible. The weekend I studied 10 to 12 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Wow that's crazy! I work full time also but did you end up studying before or after work? How did you not burn out?@@jessicakent308
So you studied about 20 hours per weekend?
thank you for sharing this!
Congratulations!!! You did soooo welll!!! How did you study for the mcat? Like how did you learn the content/content review, how did you study for pych/soc portion, what question bank did you use?
Thank you! Check out my other video on how I studied. I listed out the timeline and the resources I used in the video description. But in summary, I used a combination of Kaplan, TPR, MCATBros (pych/soc only), Uworld, and AAMC Q bank
Wondering why an MBA.. like what’s your bachelors in
And like why MD
Since it sounds like studying for the mcat was tedious I know I personally am Not a fan of the organic section
My bachelors was in business. I love healthcare, but at the time I was scared to take the prereqs and apply to medical school to change careers so I thought maybe I'll try a healthcare focused MBA. I realized I love healthcare but what I loved too is working with patients. I missed that so much when I left my old job. I also received a merit-based scholarship for MBA so it covered nearly 100% which I was so thankful for and thus completed my MBA prior to MD.
@@jessicakent308how can I get a 100 percent merit based scholarship?
You're such an inspiration!! You'll probably suceed at anything you set your mind to!! Question...did you end up finishing all pre reqs? Bio 1+2? Chem 1+2, Phys 1+2, O Chem 1+2? Thanks!
Aw thank you! Yes I finished all the pre-reqs and I am just finishing up my first semester of medical school :)
I too left my job 2 months back to start preparing for med entrance exam. It does feel like veryyy weird after having a decent career path but it’s so amazing to see you doing this!!!all the best
Beautiful. Well done. Thank you for sharing. 🩵
