I like to experiment with technology. If you can't be with the gear you want, re-config the gear you're with.
NAS-ty Build 😈: Part 02: System Update
Jonsbo N3 case with an ITX motherboard and as much useful hardware as I can stuff inside it.
Here I try bifurcation with two devices on a riser cable.

I'm creating a new video series that takes the guesswork out of choosing things like file & folder structures and other little details that fall in-between the cracks of more focused tutorials.

Properly Fix 3.3v Pin Sleep Issue on Newer Drives
Переглядів 51910 місяців тому
Here's a quick tutorial on how to fix the 3.3 volt sleep issue that happens to newer hard drives. If your hard drive is new, working, but doesn't show up even though the SATA connection is correct, this might be the issue.
APC UPS Upgraded to a LiFePO4

Here I take an old 'APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 1200VA' and replace the old lead-acid batteries with LiFePO4. Which should double the runtime.

Here's a quick overview of the RB5009 & cAP ax by MikroTik. I can't wait to put them to work.

Dual System: E05 - 'All System Running'
Переглядів 295Рік тому
The system is up and running. I've installed Proxmox on the ATX system with TrueNAS as a VM and an LXC container using and NFS share from TrueNAS.
I tried this but the drive will still not initialize (initialize disk the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error). This is on a Western Digital WUH721816ALE6L0 16TB
Make sure you covered the right pins, the pinout is the same on all SATA drives
Pretty cool build! Is there a part 2 to this video showing how it performed?
Yeah, there is now and I'll post more updates later. TLDR; 75W and has more than enough power for around 100 docker containers and 8 of those are game servers
What is the maximum safe discharge amperage (or c-rating) of the LiFePO4 replacements? I'd like to do this, but this appears to be an issue and I need to match the wattage of the UPS for less fire potential.
Another channel tested this. ua-cam.com/video/kzrqQqBmpwQ/v-deo.htmlsi=te3yaKPqNX5ztb2b Short answer is yes. The LiFePO4 batteries do not have sufficient peak current capacity for a UPS setup.
@@pleappleappleap Yes, I saw this, and it looks like most BMS top out at around 20Amps, so its not enough to support what the SLA batteries can output. Basically around a 50watts device/appliance.
Specs: According to the documentation each one can sustain nominal 4A per battery, continous 8A, with a peak of 30A for 10 seconds. The UPS BMS maxes out at 4P4S. Theory: In theory meaning that this UPS can handle at most 720W for 10 seconds, or over the span of the discharge 192W. Test: I have tested this little UPS and it's sustained 144W for 43 min. Pretty remarkable for a total of £85. I have made 3 of these along with converting a rackmount 1500VA UPS. Knowing what you're dealing with is important.
@thewizardsemporium looking forward to you update and experience of this setup. I was considering the hAP ax3 along with the cAP ax access point. But am open to this configuration if it makes more sense.
what cooler is that? I had a noctua l9i-17xx and a bequiet put rock slim 2, but neither can handle my i7-12700k
It's a Noctua NH-U9S Chromax Black. Punches above it's weight.
Hi, I just bought the same hardware and currently figuring out my ideal setup / install. Would like to see what you did and what you came across as pro/conn's. Do you the AX as an ap behind the RB5009? Do you also use the POE option?
Hey there, this reminds me that I haven't touched on the subject in a while. Yes I used the PoE with the AP running from the RB5009. I came up with something interesting. I'll make a video explain how and what I experienced in a while 🙂
@@NnamdisLaboratory Did you do the video?
Did you just greet me with "nerds"? I'm highly offended, but only because you're right.
Thanks for this. I'm new so this helps. I think the plugin has a diff name now tho. How likely is my new NVME cache ssd to fail? Should I get another ssd so that they mirror each other in raid 1??
It's unlikely but you have to make sure it's made using TLC NAND, and that you're not writing to it too much. They are extremely durable as long as it's a brand name.
google youtube for this problem instead of adding more gaaaaarbaage
“Where’s the homeland?” *camera angle drops “Oh” lol Nice set up! You pretty much thought of everything. I really like that cable raceway. If they are available in your area, you should check out the Husky brand workbenches. They are very sturdy and would be great for everything you have going on.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it. I'll check out those workbenches I might be in need of them in the near future.
I've been looking at this case for years wanting to do a dual system build -- glad to see I can make it look good once I put it together!
Yeah for sure. I would recommend air cooling where possible. Let me know if you've got any 'will it fit' questions.
Very nice, very clean and organised! Good job One question tho: why didn't you remove the plastic wrap from the PC Case? I think you should do that to avoid static from it and prevent the PC from heating more.
The plast wrap doesn't have an effect on the cooling. You're right though, I want to remove it as soon as possible. All the server parts have sharp edges. When I move them in and out of it have a tendency to scrape the side panel. The glass door always seems to want to close while I'm working. I really don't want to scrape the glass before I get to take the final pictures at least 🙂
Very clean! Love the use of the short racks. Seems ideal for a sit-stand desk, no mass of cables to raise and lower
Welcome surprise seeing you here 😄. Thanks, I had IKEA's sit-stand legs in mind when I drew the plans together. Watching this video again, I know I could make it better
@@NnamdisLaboratory Every video can be better, it's a never-ending pursuit :) But just like the homelab, it's an ongoing challenge.
I've heard stories of people getting these 'jammed' and forcing them out, in the process destroying the port and/or module. Try this first.
< p300 😂
I'm not sure what you mean. I guess it's something to do with the Phanteks Eclipse P300.
Additional Notes: The CA Backup/Restore plugin should ideally be backing up to a share on another pool. This will help if it's your cache disk that fails.
Hey man! Don't you think that at this point you're better off with your server being in a different case? I just don't see how a huge GPU and many different expansion cards ON TWO DIFFERENT MOBOS will fit into this case. I personally was searching dual PC videos to build a small Linux PC into my main rig. I'd love to use Linux only, but some games I play are windows only because of anti cheat.. On the other hand, programming and routine tasks are so much snappier and more convenient on Linux, so I'm forced to reboot between OSs every now and then. I think that building a small Linux PC for programming inside the main windows rig is a great idea for my use case, what do you think? Maybe, some suggestions on the components? I'm thinking between a 5700g and a 7700 build, but not sure if the efficiency gain is worth it for the price increase. Also don't really know about the case, there aren't many videos on the topic and most of the cases are very expensive.. Would love to hear your opinion
Hi. I found your comment interesting so instead of writing it all out here I mentioned what my thoughts were on the next video. For gaming on Linux, in my opinion the best performance option is a windows hardware passthrough with something like Looking Glass. If this causes issues with anti-cheat, you might want to consider having a Windows host instead, then using WSL for your Linux tasks or having a Linux VM. I use WSL, it's not perfect but it's good enough, now that I have this system running, I'll be using VMs under Proxmox over noVNC.
