Retina South Africa is a registered Non-Profit Organisation and Public Benefit organisation with B:BBEE status. Sponsorship of certain aspects of our work are tax deductible under Section 18a of the Income Revenue Act.
Retina South Africa was established in 1980 as the South African Retinitis Pigmentosa Society.
Retina South Africa is a patient-driven action group that has offices or groups in all the major centres in South Africa. Our major focus is:
Support of the Retinal Degeneration Research project at the University of Cape Town to find the genetic mutations in South African families
Facilitation of genetic testing to identify those patients who will benefit from clinical trials and imminent therapy
Public Awareness of retinal degeneration
Patient support including education, referral and intervention
Collaboration with local and international agencies and researchers
Fund raising to support this work

Swing for Sight Annual Golf Day 2024
In this video, Wynand Du Plessis from the IT department at Dis-Chem Pharmacies welcomes everyone to the Royal Johannesburg Country Club for the 2024 Swing for Sight event, supporting Retina South Africa. Linsay Engelbrecht, para triathlete and Events Coordinator, discusses the goals of the Swing for Sight Fundraising Event, including the new “Save Our Sight” Campaign. This initiative aims to empower visually impaired individuals to participate in activities such as sports.
The day features celebrity participants, thrilling challenges, and the inspiring Retina SA Para Golf Team (visually impaired individuals), who will participate with their guides from the South African Blind Golf Association, showcasing their skills and determination, making it a truly inclusive event.
Linsay also expresses gratitude to Dis-Chem Pharmacies for their support and sponsorship, and thanks all the players, sponsors, staff, and volunteers for their contributions.

Please find way to reverse stargadts. Too scary for me, my son and family as my young son is diagnosed with stargadts two years ago. He has to see and do so much in life.please save his vision.
Progress in clinical trials to treat Stargardt Disease is bringing treatments ever closer. Ensure that your child has a genetic diagnosis as soon as possible
@@RetinaSA the cause of stargadts 1 in my son's case has been told to be cuz of the mutation in gene ABCA4,we both parents are the carrier, our gene reports are yet to come,recieved only my son's genetic reports.
I have inherited retinal degeneration. Could you tell me how i can get genetic testing in east Asia as i live on Indonesia🙏
