14:20 That's surprising, but fantastic. The RSGB in 1966 is thanking Mr Denise Warlle (sp?) M3EWZ? (very crackly audio) for his News reports on Sunday mornings. It would seem that such contributions were appreciated back then. I suppose with modern comms like smart phones and the internet, it's been decided to clear the air of broadcasts like this, and of local road issues and such. I think it's a shame - local low powered comms for nearby situations sound such a useful idea for Ham radio enthusiasts. Some of the band could be reserved for a couple of channels for local news chatter!
Hi G3ETH! It's interesting to see the roots of the hobby especially for the Chester area. I see the radios back then were so much more hands on. One old radio the HRO-5TA1 Tube Ham Radio was well documented, and opening the case revealed an accessible _machine!_ Large components accessible and changeable, glass tubes, wire wound resistors... I think back then components degraded slowly and maintenance was crucial to stay on frequency! These days with discrete silicon they tend to work, or fail, losing much of the art of diagnosis. But the theory remains unchanged - and the skills - electronics, radio and antenna are as important as ever. Ham radio to me has always appeared to rub shoulders with the military, national defence and national security. A group of well trained, disciplined individuals. Expert and regularly practiced in long range coms. With the unrest of the world right now - there feels like a an almost silent whisper of readiness and tension in some conversations when they turn to battery backups, and mobile units - the resilience of the Ham community perhaps will become crucial in the coming years as it has been already.
Interesting, thank you. The extended tx / mars mod will also open up that band.
"..buy and _ASSEMBLE_ the K-3.." No heating of any soldering iron was involved in the creation of this radio. One BUILDS a K-2; one assembles a K-3.

xlnt just xlnt, many thanks for great video
I was looking for a video to help a new ham learn the basics of the K3. I have owned my K3 since 2008 so I am too far removed from the basics to explain them. Your video is excellent! Thanks for doing posting it. It is still relevant in 2021. 73 K3SX
Very excellent still remind me on heath kit
Paul this reminds me Heath kit in catalog 1970s
this was the place mum and her sisters where sent when orphaned ay an early age, they had a younger brother 10 month old called Peter who was left in the care of an aunt, the nuns beat and starved them, mums dad used to see them, bt he was a purser on the white star line who died and was buried at sea, if they wet the bed they had to stand in the cold corrodor on concrete slabs with the wet sheet over their heads, theres a lot more i could tell you, if anyonr reads this which i doubt, it mentally scarred them,
That reminds me the 1970s with Heathkit I hope you have a good come back come back again
Also, thanks for the video.
I'm billing you for injuries sustained to my neck during the intro rave.
Thanks for this, I remember seeing a video before about the AA- series and testing traps. Just what I needed right now. 73 de N1XF

Great introduction of the Analyser!
GRATE VIDEO I LIKE THANK YOU
either out of focus, or poor quality camera.
Nice video.... Much appreciated. BTW, The builder was not using the ESD wrist strap when assembling the amplifier portion.... thus the amplifier was bad. The defect was very very likely an ESD mishandling issue. Having encountered space shuttle computer ESD issues, ESD is very real and diligent precautions MUST be practiced. Again, nice video. Thanks.
Good detailed video. ESD protection is a good idea. However, that means that a friend (with no wrist strap) does not touch anything on the ESD mat - at one point the friend is holding the RF board. Also, it means not laying electronic modules on the assembly manual (which is not on the ESD mat). Thanks for the video.
Very imformative. Well done.
1) What is a trap ? 2) What makes the AA30 a Base Model as you call it ? 3) When, in the series of these analysers, Do they depart from base model and become something better ? Thanks in advance. Cheers and 73's
Ade Larsen I'm not the poster, but I see you haven't had a reply in 7 months. If you google how antenna traps work, you'll get an article by IW5EDI; traps let you use an antenna not the right length by increasing and decreasing resistance outside and inside the 'correct' length. The problem with traps is that they can have quite narrow bandwidth, meaning you may bet acceptable SWR only in a small portion of the band. EDIT: I searched on UA-cam for trap antennas and got several hits. Paste this in to the youtube URL: watch?v=lZM-SxSyC5A If you go to rigexpert dot com, you'll find a list of their analyzers. The AA-30 is a 'base' model because it's cheaper and offers fewer features than more expensive models. RigExpert's other analyzers depart from base when they offer more features, which means higher prices. There's no hard line you cross in your conception of which are base models and which are higher end models. It's a matter of your budget. I hope this is of some help.
philip I bought a Bird analyser. I am a full call amateur so I know what a trap is. Thanks. 73
Ade Larsen > I am a full call amateur so I know what a trap is. My apologies. I misunderstood your question 1) "What is a trap?"
+philip lol
+Ade Larsen So why you asked for ? .--. ... . -.-
Great Video thanks for posting and sharing. 73's
must be day 2...the chocolate digestives have gone :)
You also might want to tell the dude talking in the background to shut the hell up while you're actually making a video, lol. Apparently he didn't get the clue when the cameraman was holding a camera and the builder was actually building a radio? Helpful video though otherwise, overall. I am about half-way through the build myself so it was nice to see what is coming up. Hope I don't have any faulty components to get replaced...
Very nice video! I am maybe spending my money to AA-54 :)
Very nice video!
1,000 hours later the assembly is finally complete.
it is not construction it is assembling...
ur the second UK ham doing an instructional video, i can only assume u like the rig. you both did a nice job explaining the functions.
