Uniates were begun at the Pope's request in 1600's after R.Catholic church's numbers were decimated by Reformation; the Pope founded the Jesuit order in Spain with a wounded soldier "Ignatius Loyola" who gathered the "Pope's Army" and swore a 4th vow to "obey the Pope". I lived under the "lady Jesuit" group who used higher education to get converts through philosophy in the universities. Their focus was on Eastern Europe whose peasants were ignorant of their Orthodoxy, and could be convinced that 'The Pope has become Orthodox" or "we're the same as Orthodox" etc. ..and so their priests were "valid". Ukraine is a classic example. Like Janissaries, these Uniates are more violent and aggressive..has to do with the "fight" they're in to takeover Orthodox nations for the Papacy. The priest who attacked me is "Uniate" and- has a "Byzantine Catholic Church" in our area.
