The classic rock dominance of Gibson and Fender
Let’s take a look into the classic rock and popular music dominance of Gibson and Fender guitars. To me, there is no doubt that these two brands have dominated every decade since the inception of popular music. let’s take a look at some of the artists to have made them famous as well as some of the songs that are basically immortalized in time that utilized these amazing guitars.

The Jazzmaster backstory! What Leo envisioned vs. what actually happened. (Part 1)
Переглядів 121День тому
The Jazzmaster is an amazing and versatile guitar at home in many Genres. Originally Leo’s flagship model which he believed would be a hit with Jazzers, it went on the actually find favor with surf bands of the early 60’s and later with alternative rock bands from the late 70’s. This is part one of my two part series on the backstory of the Jazzmaster.

    They only "dominated" because they were mass produced, cheap and affordable at the time and brainwashed fans buy guitar brands that their "heroes" use. If Godin and Yamaha and Cort and Ibanez were around in the fifties and sixties everybody would be playing those guitars. Not to take anything away from Leo Fender and Les Paul, but the last six times I've gone looking for an American iconic guitar I've walked away with something Canadian or Japanese that plays better, is built better, and costs waaaaay less. Also, you're wrong that they dominated every decade, Godin and Cort are the two largest manufacturers in the world with the most sales, and have been for quite a while. The U. S. is not the entire world market, duh!

    • @thefretfiles
      @thefretfiles 2 дні тому

      My point was that they dominated popular recorded music in the rock, R&B, country and blues markets. I can only speak for the US because that’s where I live, but the same could be said for legions of British guitar players who were also clamoring to get Gibson or Fender guitars. And how many of those import guitars are really just variations of designs that already exist because of fender or Gibson? It is true that there are some amazing builders out there doing some unique things but a lot of what you see these days are just copies. Yes, there are countless more inexpensive import guitars sold worldwide, but those don’t count for the guitar tones. We hear on most recorded work. And to my knowledge, there are no legendary guitar players playing Cort.

    Love 'em both - been playing my '68 Custom since 1974 and a beautiful FGN Roland Strat since 1980 (they make the Japanese Fender line now). No doubt they are the two most iconic brands out there! That said I enjoy trying others for a bit of variety in the studio - Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Epiphone, Sadowsky, Eastman all have a lot to offer. Cheers.

    I don't like PRS because to me at least, they're like this "off brand" for me that never seem to establish any sort of identity of their own. I know that sounds weird, but I'll explain. PRS all seem to be this strange hybrid of a Stratocaster and a Les Paul. They have a double cutaway, but a bound mahogany body. They have a flame top, but it's longer and thinner like a Strat. They have dual humbuckers, but they have a slider switch (most of them at least). There's also other things that are off putting like the birds (I know Paul's mom was a birdwatcher and it's a tribute to her, but I don't like them), and then there's that stupid looking headstock. I understand why the headstock is designed like that to allow the strings a straight path through the nut, but I just don't like it. It's like they want to be Fender, but they at the same time want to Gibson but are stuck somewhere in the middle. The other thing is the sound. PRS doesn't have a sound, and what sound they do have just sounds empty. When hear that sound I just go "oh, that's a PRS isn't it? That's just tragic". There was also an incident where a salesman was hard selling PRS with me in the 90's. I went to a store and they said on the phone they said "we're closed but come down and we'll help you". When I got there I got nothing but attitude. When they asked me what I was looking for I said "I'm looking to get a Les Paul". The sales guy said "No, you want a PRS". I said "I don't want a PRS, I want a Les Paul". He said "No, Les Paul's suck. You want a PRS". I told him "Listen, your job is not to tell me what I want, it's for me to say what I want, and for you to say 'YES SIR!'". He tried charging me double, and I left. A weeks later I saw a Les Paul in the local re-selling newspaper the Bargain News for $500. I've had that guitar ever since. I know a pushy sales man shouldn't put me off buying a guitar, but the experience had soured me on the brand because they were adamant, and for the next few years I saw PRS at every guitar show because they over built and apparently dealers had to get rid of them. For me also the fact that they're charging $2,400 for these guitars. If I'm going to pay that much I'm going to get a used Les Paul, SG, or a Rickenbacker or something. Or even a Hamer if you can find one.
