Gave myself a little project yesterday to spice up the holidays inspired by rdavidr's snom build video. I don't have a snom (yet), but found these old roto toms and thought they'd sound cool on this track with a bit of 80's gated reverb!
Thanks to TJHartmandrums for the incredible track.
Check his performance here (with roto toms and snom!)

Drum part for "Shake Your Body" by the Jacksons. Performed here 3 as overdubs as played by Ed Greene on the original recording and also as an all in one version for live shows.
1970's Pearl Wood Fibreglass Drums - Steely Dan "I Got the News" Drum Cover by Tom Gordon

My version of Steely Dan's "I Got the News" inspired by the great drummer Ed Greene from the classic album "Aja". Using and old set of 1970's Pearl Wood-Fibrelass drums paired with a Yamaha Stage Custom steel snare with a cut out old snare skin placed on top to deaden/lower the tone. Mixture of Bosphorus/Zildjian/Istanbul and Paiste Cymbals.
Steely Dan "Peg" drum cover/snare shootout

My cover of Peg, inspired by Rick Marotta's playing on the classic Steely Dan album "Aja". Also trying out my newest snare - Yamaha Stage Custom 6.5 inch steel shell, and seeing how it matches up to my old faithful Ludwig 402.

Max by Andew Tween

A solo drum piece from Trinity Guildhall 2007-2011 syllabus by Andrew Tween. It's a tribute to Max Roach and only grade 6. In my opinion it's more like grade 8 as it's quite the challenge to play properly. Got my old Slingerlands out for the bebop vibes...If you want to have a go, you can get the music here: www.grooveworld.co.uk
Un Poco Loco Drum Cover

Happy New Year everyone! Here's a little video of my practice session yesterday. My take on "Un Poco Loco" inspired by the classic Bud Powell recording with Max Roach on drums. Thanks to Hardbat Productions for the backing track (Dave Bass - piano, Kerry Kashiwagi - Bass) and the great lesson - ua-cam.com/video/9RmI6E7PIg4/v-deo.html Check out their trio recording here: Scott Gordon (drums), Da...

Very nice! Right in with the track all the way through, and you're the first person I've heard get that 5-stroke roll into the an-of-one at the start of the sax solo. I remember when I first heard Weckl play that figure, I nearly died...
What did you use to remove the drums from the track?
You need to get the book - Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Play Along: Drums (Book & CD) (Hal Leonard Jazz Play-Along)
Nice job. The drums sound great.
Really enjoyed this. I just watched another take on this tune by a guy who played all over it to the point that you didn’t need the track but your version is 100% musically relevant to the song. Thank you.
Verry good job
Looks like the Thumbnail photo of Max Roach, was taken in Rudy Van Gelder, parents house before Rudy built his own recording studio ( just saying ) I live in England,UK. Anyway, Peace to all.
Awesome
Like your snare stand idea :)
Very good job on drums 👍
It's finished and working!
Yes. This is the first of 2 drums. The other is still on my workbench. It will be in black pearl with a lower tuning and floor tom legs added. A snom (snare tom hybrid!). Video will be uploaded when I'm done.
That would be a dream find for me! Sounds sick.
Lovely ,tight as a tight think . Love Dave weckl as well as your playing of course . How about some more tunes ,rich
Very nice!

thats easy for you to do , great,
Not that easy...
Nice!
That has to be one of the best demonstrations of one of the best groove tracks... Great job. I wish I could play that. I'd be jumping on my seat trying to play and dance at the same time 😂😉👍🏽
Thx Naz B, Glad you enjoyed it!
@@tomgordon8267 on that note, you've just got a new subscriber. The YT algorithm definitely went in our favour. Thanks for the reply too. I appreciate it 👍🏽👑
Ludwig has it.....not by much though....
Excellent drumming, Tom. From Laura and Alastair Hooper
Thx Alastair..Nice to hear from you. Love to you and Laura ❤️
Ludwig by far!
Ludwig for me!
Both sound great, but I think the Ludwig has it.
I agree with Andy. Ludwig better.
Yeah...I reckon so.
Nice one Tom. But I prefer the Ludwig.
Good call...TBH so do I. Picked up the Yamaha yesterday for £50 on gumtree tho..basically brand new. Chuffed with it.
One of my favorite drum book, great work relax and funky, nice example also for my advanced Students, thanks for sharing !!
You're welcome - glad you liked it!
I enjoyed it very much. Keep it up!!! Increase your stats > P r o m o S M !!!
Very very nice! Great job! Nice improvisation! 👍🙂🥁
Anything ‘Max’ is going to be interesting - Tom makes it look easy. It’s not. It’s in the ‘feel’ isn’t it.
Great video 10/10 for me :)
Nice work!! BTW, Dave Bass on piano and Kerry Kashiwagi on bass
Oh, and I like your embellishments - I'm gonna have to steal some of them!
I just credited them in the description!
Awesome work well done! I support your video! I'm waiting for you on my channel soon!
Great playing! What is the crash to your left with the rivets?
Thanks David. It's a Bosphorus Antique Series 20" ride. A nice jazzy ride sound with a great crash on it too..I had the 2 rivets installed when I got it.
Yeah, best 3/4 section I've seen posted yet.
great touch
Nice!
Wonderful, energetic playing, guys. Thanks.
Lovely writing, playing and production! Thank you for sharing, M.
Another great tune guys; love the interplay and lines. Hey Malc (long time since CLCM), great playing and fab sound. Best, Mark Finney
