Lotus Emira Test Drive
Переглядів 12 тис.2 роки тому
This is my test drive with Dallas Lotus, of a Sports suspension V6 Manual Lotus Emira. For those of you asking it's been 15 years since I've had a manual car, so I have a lot of bad habits from when I used to drive in NY/NJ traffic. I would go back to neutral regularly since my leg would hurt over time, and that was the benefit of giving my leg a rest in stop and go traffic. I'll try to get bet...
What a polar opposite from the test drive experience I had…. The arrogant jerk that was riding with me was explaining to me how to shift gears before I even pulled off. I have owned 15+ cars in my life and all of them have been stick… then he proceeds to say the don’t crash and don’t kill me. They’re only six of these cars in the country and only one of me. If that wasn’t bad enough the moron went on to say that he really likes hellcats because you can “feel the throttle”, whatever the heck that means… I still have my deposit on this thing, but I almost pulled it after that experience… I have a feeling that’s exactly what he wanted. Thanks for the video! I’m living vicariously through your footage. 🤣💯🤙
Was it quieter than a Cayman?
Have not driven a Cayman, but I didn't find it obnoxiously loud... take that for what it's worth. Reasonably quiet, exhaust note was dulled inside, but outside it sounded great.
Stop resting your hand on the gear lever!
Sorry, been a while since I have driven a manual, so I'll work on building better habits :)
@@Shyatic That's OK, LOL. It's just that it can cause wear on the selector forks, and also both hands should be on the steering wheel as much as possible.
Shmee150 mentioned the steering wheel/foot pedal offset (wheel slightly to the left, pedals to the right)….does it bother you?
Was a little weird for about a minute, then became second nature.
How do you get to test drive this? My dream car…
I have a deposit on the car at Lotus of Dallas, so there were opportunities made for folks to get a test drive.
@@Shyatic amazing. Have another question, how did you deposit money towards the car? Because when I go on the main website after I customize the car, it just shows the total price, it won’t allow me to purchase from website like you would on some others…
@@alien_raider464 you have to find a local Lotus dealer and work that out with them. The configuration online is just to help them take note of your build.
@@Shyatic thank you. And if you’ve done finance option which I’m sure you did since you mentioned deposit, do you know what’s the least to most months you can finance the car? Because most cars here can be financed up to 84-96 months…
@@alien_raider464 not sure honestly, all I did was put a cash deposit down, the financing options won't be until I take delivery of the car (probably close to a year).
Thx for the video, my son was the one recording the second lap straight away. Loved my test drive and also settled on the sport suspension very livable.
✨ 【promosm】
very nice man with manner, asking if car is broken in first.
Seem too quite for me inside the car. You was into quieter exhaust mode or with valve opened for a sportier sound ?
That's the noise level -- it's not super high inside, the outside sounds amazing though. There are a few videos of the Emira exhaust -- I'd check them out for an idea :)
@@Shyatic Yeah outside the sound level seem to be just perfect and mad but inside as a weekend car for having fun it seem to be too shy not loud enough. For a everyday ride must be just fine and civilized.
Never buy a demo car. This guy ruined the gearbox, jerking it left and right for no reason. The gearbox life gets reduced if you have the habit of doing that.
Not true. You're not doing any damage to the gearbox going side to side in neutral. Only thing that affects is the centering spring.
What in God's sweet name is going on with that gear change at 2:08?!?! Why would you bang it into neutral and coast along for a bit?!?!
Bad habits -- it's in the description. Sorry I'll get better, it's just been 15 years :)
Thank you for the video, great job. What did you use for the filming, a Go Pro mounted on the driver side window? The car sounds A LOT quieter than an Evora 400/GT, it seems too muted now. Is that how it felt to you or have you not driven any of those models?
I have not driven an Evora but from what I hear, this is a lot quieter. Yes, I had a GoPro 11 mounted onto the driver's side window -- I didn't spend a lot of time fumbling with it to get it perfect since I only had limited time in the car.
Why did you keep it in N while driving?
Bad habits from when I drove manuals 15 years earlier. I used to drive in traffic in NY/NJ so it was more about resting my leg whenever I could. I'll have to re-acclimate for this car when I get it :)
Yeah, I think it's not very good for the car. So you are getting it, that's awesome! Congratulations, great decision Evora really doesn't make sense when you've got Emira, I hope you will continue uploading about that great car, do some GT type POVs or whatever. Did you choose sports or touring? First edition? Colors?
@@bag2963 probably won't make it in time for First Edition, but ordered a V6 manual in Magma Red. Should have it some time middle of next year, so a while to wait!
@@Shyatic Great, I'm happy for you, you'll have a lot of fun and pleasure and drive safely.
I can tell he doesnt ride shifter often.
Yeah, it's been 10+ years, thanks for the constructive comment.
@@Shyatic thats the only thing i noticed. Otherwise a good Video. Its a fantastic car .
@@Shyatic I wouldn't mind the comments bud, it takes some time getting back used to manuals, you'll be alright after a day or 2 again. Heel & toe, rev matching, all part of the fun. I'm still debating just holding out to get a feel for the AMG engine, or wait until the cup editions come out later.
@@fairwayceo absolutely man, it actually helps catch me now because it will make me actively think about it when I’m driving for real.
At 0:42 “let’s get the party started”; party almost ended turning out of the lot. Thankfully you looked! Sub’d!
Would love to hear your perspective on differences between the Evora
@@_VelociDad I haven't driven the Evora but from most of the Evora owners I've met, they seem to like this car more but for different reasons.
How does the shifter feel? Any unwanted notchy feels? Clutch feel as well?
Little long throw, but not a big deal. Clutch feel was good, pedal placement was a little weird at first but got over it pretty quickly as I got into the car.
Did it feel quick enough?
In fairness I didn’t “drop the hammer” or max rev shift, but my conclusion is that there’s plenty of power to make it a super fun car. Depends on what you value.
@@Shyatic is it faster than mk5 supra? Or similar? For the price it’s ridiculously slow
@@bman1668 the Supra is faster in a straight line, no doubt -- I don't think it will be the same in the corners. There's plenty of power for tons of fun in the car, so it's really up to what you want in a car. I want an agile, fun to drive car that has good power. If you value power over other things -- get a Corvette :)
@@Shyatic Supra can do the same in the corners it is balanced 50/50 weight distribution and can set good lap times not sure how it would fee to drive compare to lotus 3350lbs is for Supra and lotus is 3000? Extra 300lbs or so can be felt I’m sure for back road driving and etc. but wish it had more power at least like supras or like lotus evora gt
@@bman1668 Weight distribution and electronic steering isn't quite the same as the cars Lotus tries to build. Again, power is great -- heck, the BMW M3 or M2 is phenomenal for that... but the Lotus is never going to be the powerhouse other cars are, because it never was designed to be.
I ordered one too, haven't spec it...but not sure which suspension setting I should go for. How do you feel about the sport setting compare to GT4? If it's not tougher than GT4, I am OK with it.
It definitely won't be tougher than a GT4. Lotus have much nicer suspension than Porsche in general and the Emira isn't a rival to the GT4
What are they going for? Any markups?
No markups at my dealer - price is MSRP, like $95k
Nice thanks for sharing. Quick question, why do you keep putting it in Neutral so often... even when you're cruising along? Not a criticism, just curious as to why?
I have habits from driving in traffic on the east coast to work and back -- I would constantly roll back to neutral to give my left leg a rest, because in stop and go traffic it was murder on my legs (and the cars I owned had shitty clutches). I'm sure I'll have better habits after I take delivery though :)
I was thinking the same. Growing up in England this was a big no go. Can't fault him for doing so though. Better get used to it again because that on track days will cause some problems.;) Speaking of which. Eagles Canyon.
@@fairwayceo thanks Gavin, it’s on my list! And yeah, it’s been a long while so I will need to train new habits in myself… give me time :)
stopping at stop signs optional in TX 🙂 How does the FE badge on the dash look in person, still odd? it sounded good
Nice one. How did you find the seat comfort, and feedback through the seat? Also, how did you find the steering wheel in general?
Probably found the steering wheel by just looking in front of him. 🤣
Steering wheel was fine, nothing too dramatic so didn’t cause much issue. Seat comfort was good, I’m not a fan of alcantara, so I’ll opt for leather.
"I don't care about power" = "I'm not in my 20's or 30's anymore. I'm responsible now. I have a family." I can relate! 😁 Thanks for filming this!
Even in my 20s I cared more about handling, in fairness :) I had a bunch of cars over the years, but my favorite car was my Mazda RX-8 which compared to most -- is actually pretty darn slow!
That's not how you quote someone it must be exact, I mean comas and fullstops too...
Then why buy this?
TT RS has more performance and practicality, cayman 981 sounds better and has the balance/handling, 718 4.0 is better overall, a110 has the best handling. Lotus has the looks, but not the rest.
@Cameron Regester I don't think this is much better than the Cayman in terms of gear ratios. See the Harry's Garage trip to lotus HQ, he was taken for a ride in the Emira and 2nd was long. Maybe not, but I haven't seen the final product being reviewed yet. Otherwise, it seems heavy, underpowered for the weight with some limited colour options. Also first gen bugs will be plentiful. By the time the sporty variations arrive this could be old news. The Toyota engine is leftovers, the turbos will take over. I wouldn't mind a hybrid sports, the supercar tech will flow down. Try the BRZ/GR86 for cheap fun
Hello nice stream bit late but nice can we play?
