If you're running this system in the daylight, why do you need the battery? I want to know if this will run without a battery in daylight only. Anyone know?

You can not run without a battery with this charge controller, they have battery less inverters that might be possible but the battery is in the system to keep the voltage more constant. If you have clouds without a battery, the system will shut down and the biggest problem of not having a battery is starting up the compressor. Needs 6-7 times the normal running amps to just start the compressor. They now make mini splits that do not require an inverter or battery to run during the day, you could also connect to grid or battery for when there is no sun out and be able to keep running and can limit the input watts to 600 watts. The battery is needed to keep the system stable and be able to handle the inrush amps of startup surges. Hope this helps you to understand better. Hope you have a truly wonderful and blessed day.

Problem with these is they don't have engineered drawings that you can submit for permit approval. Why? No idea. They'd sell a lot more if they did. They do have some drawings with some 'example' calcs, but nothing with a professional engineer's stamp that will comply with most permit requirements. I'm going with IntegraRack ground mount ballasted racking. More expensive, but far fewer parts and simpler installation with engineered calcs for wind loading.

Hey thanks for the info. I believe this set is meant for off grid solar which does not usually require a permit since your solar will not be connected to the grid in any way. Sounds like you found something that you can submit for permit approval. Good luck with your project. Thanks again for sharing. Hope you have a blessed day.

@@tonyastokley5165 we grow cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, leaf lettuce, butter leaf lettuce, purple leaf lettuce, romaine to name a few. Green peppers, mini peppers, jalapeño peppers just to name a few. Butternut squash, basil, peppermint keeps the bugs and neighbors cats away and spreads rapidly and makes the garden smell really good. The clay pots are great for cherry tomatoes and.peppers since the soil stays warm winter sun warming 24 in deep clay pots. Cucumbers, egg plant. We can pretty much grow almost anything for next few months, frost bite in January and February when gets close to 32 degrees overnight. We cover plants with cloth to keep from getting severe frost bite in plants, but some years we don’t drop below 40 overnight in winter. We grow into June, then pull out plants early June and let soil rest over summer. We do not water in summer but add new miracle grow soil to the top after we break up soil and water in September. We usually plant seeds and grown plants after day temps stay below 100 degrees. Going to be 111 today and 113 tomorrow so still have a week or few weeks before planting so just keeping soil wet all the way down the 16 inches of soil. We had much better crop and harvest with 12 inch deep soil than with 6 inch deep soil. So now we should do better with 16 inch deep soil. I add 1 inch of new soil a month over the winter to keep nutrients in soil and use miracle grow sprayer every 2 weeks to get plants to flower more and grow more veggies. We tried corn with mixed results but the corn seeds are now no nutrients so we don’t grow. We use seeds from previous years crop that are acclimated to as winters and do much better than store bought seeds. We plant celery stalks from store leaving 2-3 inches left on stalk into garden and also plants romaine ends in garden as well that we bought from store with 2-3 inch end into soil in garden with 1 inch not under soil. We also cut our celery and lettuce that has grown in garden and leave 3 inch trunk to start regrowing again. Will regrow all winter long. Hope this helps. Hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed weekend.

Thank you for all of this! I have several questions if you have time: How long was your pool season? Do you have to bypass your pool heat pump when night temps get down to create a frost? What reel do you use for your pool cover? How long does it take to remove and to cover (1 person)? I have a 20,000 gallon pool in SF East Bay. I would love to get a heat pump with dedicated PV to swim daily all year before work. I have roof top solar water to heat my pool, but I get some frosty days in the winter so I have to bypass it in winter. With my solar water, I can swim April 15 to Oct 15 without owning a pool cover. I can swim down to 70 or even colder, but if it takes time to uncover and cover the pool each day - I probably won't do it.

Hi, my pool season last year through December using pool cover and my 17,000 Btu pool heater. I started my pool season in Early February with the help of my 127,000 Btu pool heat pump heater which I use on my solar. I use both pool heaters on my solar. This year I changed my solar arrays and also switched the poly solar panels for mono solar panels. I now use the EG4 3000 watt off grid inverters,4 in parallel and should be able to produce the 6500-7500 watts needed to run pool heater during the day. I run my pool over night at 1200 rpm’s and during the day when sun is on the pool cover, I increase rpm’s on pool pump to 2400. I do not have a bypass for heaters. The water flows through the heaters when on and off so no need for a bypass. I bought my pool cover and reel from Amazon, both under $100 each. I can use the 17,000 Btu pool heater during the day to keep water warm and add 2-5 degrees when very little sun on pool. If you get sun on your pool all day long in winter or most of the day, that will help a lot to heat pool. I usually drop 2-5 degrees overnight when it gets below 50 degrees overnight. That’s where that 17,000 pool heat pump does a good job to recoup the temp during the day. It in January and February I have to use the 127,000 Btu pool heater. It gets down below 50 degrees at night and even down into the 30’s in February. But if I run the big pool heater 4-6 hours a day on solar, I can keep my pool temp between 82-88 degrees. The 127,000 Btu pool heater needs around 12,000 watts of solar from mono panels to run and I can only produce the 6500-7500 watts needed between 10am to 3-4 pm. You could run the pool pump on grid power like I use to, it is 9 cents a kWh out here in the winter so 9 times 6 kWh is 54 cents an hour to run times 6 hours $3.24 a day to keep pool heated using solar pool cover as well. The reel had to be put together and works well but when I just want to clean pool or go for a quick swim, I just pull pool cover off and fold over on ground as I remove it, much easier to put back on when I’m done cleaning or swimming. I do all this by myself and it only takes about 2-4 minutes to remove pool cover and the same to pull cover back over the pool. The pool cover with my shape of pool, like a peanut, tends to be hard to roll up and flattens out the bubbles because there is a lot of drag when reeling up so bubbles get smashed. You want the bubbles to stay full size to get the heat. The sun out here in Phoenix AZ kills the pool covers in just 2 years, I don’t think the sun out there is as intense so you might get 3-4 years out of pool cover. I usually get the 14 mill plastic cover. 200 um. Price has increased to over $100. Last bought October 2023. Try just keeping the pool cover on without a heater. My pool is still 90 degrees even though we got down to 86 degrees last week. If your pool has sun most of the day, your pool will stay warm. If it get a lot of sun, run your pool pump on 2000 rpm’s to distribute the heat in water evenly, pool covers tend to heat the top 12 inches really hot but not below that so you have to run pool pump on at least 2000 rpm’s to evenly distribute heated water. Then just 1000-2000 rpm over night just to keep the chlorine moving through pool so you don’t get algae. I installed a jacuzzi variable speed pump myself. Paid for itself in electric cost savings in just 2 years. When I put pool cover back on after swimming, I just get in pool, grab pool cover and walk it over to the other end, takes maybe 1-2 minutes at most. Then I just get out. Try to keep pool cover flat without any large bubbles when on water. Pool cover will shrink a little over the 2 years. I usually cut the pool cover to the shape of my pool and add 3-4 inches extra all the way around the shape of pool. Wherever water is not covered, it will get cold in that area fast and the pool cover needs to lay as flat as possible to transfer heat. Bubbles need to face down. The smooth surface should be facing up, bubble in water. Like I said, if you get full sun on pool most of the day in winter, a pool cover might keep it warm most of the winter by itself with no heater. My pool is shaded right now thus time of year, only 40 percent of pool is in sun during the day, but it is enough to keep at 90 degrees by just using pool cover so far. Next month through February, the pool will be completely shaded for 4/5 months. That’s why I have to heat it. It a little over $100 to try using pool cover, what do you have to loose. Hope this info helps.

What happens when the sun is not out and the battery drops too low to run the inverter? Needs to have some kind of control to protect the battery as it is bad for the battery to drop below its nominal voltage.

There are settings on the charge controller you can set not to go below that value. You have to also monitor a set up like this. This is just the bare bones to show solar will run an ac. I live in AZ where we have over 320 days of sunshine. If you live in an area where you have a lot of days with clouds or rain. I would suggest you do not do this. I just wanted to show you can run a window ac with solar. I now have evolved to run my whole house upstairs 3 1/2 ton and downstairs 4 ton heat pumps to air condition my house using only solar in the day and LiFePO4 battery bank at night. I also installed and can run 2 - 12,000 but mini splits upstairs and 2 - 12,000 Btu mini splits downstairs instead of the 3 1/2 ton and 4 ton heat pumps. We also run our pool pump 24 hours a day as well as in the winter when we don’t need ac or heat, we run our 127,000 Btu pool heat pump pool heater. We run 5 freezers and a refrigerator in the garage along with a full size washing machine and heat pump fryer and can run a dishwasher as well. We keep our house at 72-76 degrees even when it is 115 degrees outside. We also air condition our garage as well. All these mini splits have the ability to heat or cool. Check out our other videos to see all we do. Thanks for your input. Hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed week

For the RV AC consider a 230v inverter, just run it when you need it. They're cheap in the US since everyone is looking for split phase. You could use a bigger one to run your house AC instead of the expensive split phase setup. It gives you another large charge controller too.

I already have all my inverters, why would I buy another one when these are working perfectly fine. Not sure which inverter you are talking about especially for the motor home. I only need to run my mini split in motor home and I already have everything I need. Don’t really need 230 volt inverter. What inverter are you referring to? The 4-EG4 inverters have been working flawlessly, no problems at all. They are extremely light to mount on wall at just 18 lbs and have 50 amps each for start up inrush amps. That 200 amps I can use for inrush amps. It sure a 230 volt inverter can even come close to that insane amount of power. I can start and run my 3 1/2 ton, 4 ton and 2-12,000 Btu mini splits all at the same time. That’s close to 8000 watts with all that running. Let me know what 230 volt inverter you were referring to, in interested to know. Thanks for your comment and hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed week

    • @diy-solar-guy

@@GypsyPhoenix-x8t hello, first, I do not earth ground my solar systems. I use neutral bonding in the electrical panel. I do not know weather copper wire on a boat is dangerous or not. If you needed split phase 120/240 volts. EG4 has several products you can use. I actually use the EG4 3000 watt if grid inverters, 4 in parallel to be able to produce 12,000 watts output. If you use 2 inverters in parallel, you could get 6000 watts output and still get split phase to run your loads. You can connect up to 5000 watts in solar on each inverter in one single string. You could get 400 watt solar panels and connect 10-12 in series to get close to 5000 watt input for each inverter. If you only used one EG4 off grid inverter, you could get 120. Volt pure sign wave output. Need 2 inverters in parallel to get split phase. 9000 and 12,000 Btu mini splits can come with 120 or 230 volt input. Anything larger than 12,000 Btu mini split is 230 volts. 400 watt solar panels come on different sizes but 40x70 is pretty much the smallest size. The inverters are different for on grid and off grid. On grid requires 120/230 volts to already be connected to inverter as where off grid inverter does not need grid power to work. It converters dc solar panel voltage to alternating current for output. All of my systems like I said are off grid and I had to connect wires from off grid electrical panel to each individual component like, ac, dishwasher, outlets to run fridge and freezers, pool pump, pool heater. You are basically starting from scratch and run wires to everything you want to run with off grid solar power. At 110 watt, 24 hours a day is 2.6 kw for day, at .14 cent a kWh, it is only .37 cent a day to run pool pump. But with a 1 hp pump, at only 8 hours a day, at 3200 rpm, that is 26.6 kw for a day, at .14 cent a kWh, that is $3.58 a day for electricity. That is $107 a month to run pool and you will still have an algae problem. With a variable pool pump, you bill would be $11.10 a month, that is running 24 hours a day for 30 days and just put 2 chlorine 3 inch tabs in skimmer basket a week or until they are dissolved, then add 2 more until dissolved. I usually use 4-6 chlorine tabs a month. Hope this helps. Invest in a variable speed pool pump and you will save a lot of more on electricity and pool chemicals. I built a portable unit using the EG4 LL battery and the eg4 off grid inverter to run only my 26 cu.ft. fridge which runs on 115V and 7.2 amps full load or 828 watts. This is only used for outages and was quite disappointed that it only ran the fridge for 37 hours consuming 2.4KW and the inverter consumed 2.7KW when idle and on. So I am looking at the Victron inverter the 48V / 1200 watt. It runs between 128 watts when the compressor is on and 404 watts when it is defrosting. Would you happen to know if it could handle the surge when the compressor turns on? I don't really know what the surge is on my fridge is but I do know that my Ecoflow max 2000 runs it . @@shelley131 hi, I have not tried running my fridge on the Victton inverter but it was able to go to 1250 watts for a few minutes before it shut down. I think it all depends on the fridge you have and how much surge you get when compressor kicks on. My gut feeling is it would handle the surge. Fridges take a lot of watts to keep running especially in a hot garage in Phoenix AZ in the summer after pulling in hot cars from out in 115 degree heat. Running my 3 freezers and fridge in my garage along with my pool pump motor 24 hours a day, I use abut 2 EG4 5kw 100ah 5120wh server rack batteries in parallel for overnight use. That is with the idle consumption of 2-EG4 3000 watt off grid inverts using 50 watts each per hour. I do not know anything about the Ecofkow max 2000 so can’t give you any suggestions there. If you ask Signature solar if you buy victron inverter and it can not start fridge, I’m sure they would say you could return it, ask them before you buy. I have 10 connected to my EG4 3000 watt off grid inverter and they preform excellent. I have them mounted on a wood pergola so they are 9 feet off the ground and pick up a decent amount of light. The highest I had them producing as input was 3350 watts, but I don’t think that is the max I could squeeze out of them. That’s just the amount with a large load. Very satisfied and would purchase again. They were $120 each, minimum order of 10 plus $250 freight when I purchased. Now they are $128 each. So $112 is a good price. I get great early morning and late afternoon input even laying flat on my pergolas. You will never get 245 watts out of 245 watt solar panel. Maybe 170-190 with perfect conditions and maybe for a few hours. You are not doing anything wrong. In order for me to get 3000 watts into a 3000 watt inverter, I would have to connect 5000 watts in used solar panels. Think about 80 percent of what solar panel states for watts. I always over panel more than what I need. If you want to get 1000 watts during the day, you should probably use around 1600-1800 watts in panels. Remember, you will only get a peak from around 9am-3pm at best, before and after those times, you will get maybe get 5-50 percent of solar panel watts. We run 4 freezer and a refrigerator 24 hours a day. We also have our garage air conditioned, usually 75 degrees in garage during the day when 100-117 degrees outside during the day. Our electric bill in Phoenix ax area is less than $200 a month in the summer while my neighbor will spend $600-$1000 a month with a 2 story house and a swimming pool. Our pay back time is very short since our electric bill with what we use now would be over $5000 a year. We spend around $1200 a year on electricity. We produce a lot more than we can use. We started off small and just built on it over last 4 years. We also use our electric pool heaters to heat or cool our swimming pool to 86-89 degrees. This is a diy investment. If you can do all the work yourself, your payback time is much shorter. With the savings on electric bill alone, we will be spending thousands less on electricity every year from here on out. Like I said, we use to be hot all the time before off grid solar, now we are very comfortable in the summer in house and garage. You could never get a payback time this short with on grid solar. We checked and our basic electricity bill would have been a minimum of $125 a months before we even used any electricity. We would never pay back our investment by going on grid solar. Hope this helps you understand better on return of investment. Electricity rates keep increasing, California is $.34 a kWh. Phoenix is $.17 a kWh. Hope you are blessed weather you do nothing or at least try to use off grid solar to offset electric bill. I speak from experience, not from theory. Please go and look into the basics in electricity. I have had dozens of people contact me that they were able to do the same thing and it is working. This is just the bare bones basic set up to show you can run ac with off grid solar. Improve on this design like I did and you will no longer pay for ac and be able to produce your own power. Actually if you look at my other videos you will see my foundation was correct and I now run my 31/2 ton whole house upstairs ducted air conditioning and my 4 ton downstairs air conditioner all day long using solar. Together, the 2 ac units use 6000-6500 watts. I even run my 3 1/2 ton ac overnight on EG4 LiFePO4 battery bank. I can even heat my pool using a 12.7 ton pool heat pump pool heater that uses 7500 watts while running. I will let the proof in the videos show who is correct and who is not. Who is telling the truth and who does not know about basic electrical. Hey hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely BLESSED DAY.

If he were producing heat hewould need 1500 watts x 3.41btu/watt for about 5000 btu. An ac moves heat from one place to another via a transfer fluid(refrigerant) and is more efficient energy wise.

Could you hook it to a 120v me cool mini split?

@@edlerlights6486 yes but you would have to greatly improve upon this system. You would be better off using an all in one inverter and 48 volt battery bank instead of12v battery. EG4 has a 3000 watt off grid inverter that you can expand down the road up to 12 inverters in parallel. You would need at least 2000 watts of solar to be safe and a much bigger battery bank. Each inverter can give you 3000 watts output with 5000 watts solar panel input. You can connect 2 inverters in parallel and get 120/240 volts and run main ac in house like I do. I have 4 inverters in parallel and am running my 3 1/2 ton & 4 ton upstairs and downstairs ac in my house right now using only solar. I spend $0 on air conditioning and heating year round now with off grid solar. It is DIY. This is what I started with but check out my latest videos on running to see all I run with off grid solar . I even run my 3 1/2 ton upstairs ac overnight on EG4 LiFePO4 battery bank. Links are in videos for products in use. You can now buy a EG4 12,000 Btu mini split 120 volt that has direct solar connection to the outside unit of the mini split. You could air condition or heat during the day with just solar, Completely eliminating the need for inverter or battery. This 12,000 Btu mini split is 120v and can connect it to the grid power so when there is no sun, the grid will continue to keep running the mini split until next day when sun rises and you have enough solar to run mini split. The. Ink split automatically started reducing grid power as sun comes up to where it is no longer using grid power and only using solar all day long. The grid power is for when there is not enough sun or rainy days. You can have grid connected but not use it as well. It is free ac or heat during the day. The mini split will limit only 600 watts to run it when on grid power saving you money. Links are in my other videos for this product.watch some off my other videos and see all you can do with off grid solar. If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Hope you have a truly wonderful and blessed 2024. You can install this mini split yourself! I will be purchasing one soon and will do videos on it in the future. Once most people see how easy it is to do it yourself and save money, they start building bigger system. The EG4 3000 watt inverter is under $700, install 2 and you have split phase 120/240 boot to run just about any household appliances. You would just have to run separate wire from inverter to appliances and disconnect grid power wires. Everything I do is off grid solar. Nothing I do is connected to grid in any way. Check out my videos and explore off grid solar.
