My sister did something that really hurt my feelings but then was unavailable to discuss it. 3 days later, we talked and I let her know just how badly she hurt my feelings. HOWEVEr by that time it had festered and when it came out it came out ugly. I said some things I regret but that conversation was all about reconciliation. OR so I thought. When we ended that phone call we were both in a very lovey mood and had reconnected on deep levels. BOTH of us said we're sorry and BOTH of us forgave the other. BUt the very next day, I sensed things weren't OK with my sis. She was cold and distant BUT because we had both agreed in the conversation the day before that if anything came up, that we would discuss it further, I thought "Oh she's dealing with other things that aren't about me" and went on about my business. ALL the next week my texts go unanswered, a request for a meeting gets denied and just radio silence. I ask my bro if she's OK and he says "Yeah I think so" but then 3 days later I say "Boy sis is awfully quiet on texts" and he says "Well she doesn't like the way you talked to her" and there it is. She's harboring a resentment against me but refuses to talk to me about it.....EVEN THOUGH we just agreed if other stuff comes up we'll talk about it. It's exhausting and honestly, I'm sick of dealing with this crap. I can't keep apologizing when she has a bad nights sleep. I apologized, she forgave me, then silently withdraws the forgiveness.

No acknowledging intrusive thoughts and trying to overwrite them with positive ones actually increases the frequency of intrusive thoughts. The way to get rid of them over time is to not interact with the thought at all, recognise that it is just a thought and has no meaning and slowly over time they will stop.

This is horseshit advice. If our "friend" was really a "friend" they'd let you know if they're mad about something, whether or not it was your fault. But just cutting a friend off with no explanation is childish. They clearly don't value your friendship. You don't need "friends" like this. They never were friends. Just acquaintances. This advice is horseshit.

I totally agree with you. It's very childish. I have had a few people, even some family members that went MIA, never to hear from them again. It's a terrible feeling that even yoga won't let me forget. When you do nothing wrong you realize these people were just using you for their gains and when they didn't need you anymore, they cut you off.

When I've asked these friends what's going on our why they won't speak to me. Then I conclude that the friendship wasn't what I thought it was.

What about young people who seem to have embraced helplessness as an actual preference? I only recently became aware of this. I have a step daughter who visited recently. She was a little late to launch, but she has been steadily employed and seems to be making progress in her life skills and confidence. However, she told multiple stories about times that she purposefully appeared weak or asked for help unnecessarily so that others would do for her. (The examples included coworkers carrying things for her that were her job not theirs, creating an awkward moment where she kept asking others whether she should go get her wallet to make a large purchase at the checkout until someone finally just went and got it from the parking lot for her, and then as she left for the airport she described her plan to ask a random person on the plane to put her backpack into the overhead compartment for her. She left the same backpack on the ground outside on the car for my husband to load. It was not heavy, and she has no physical disabilities.) I did not really respond to those stories at the time, but I wish now I knew how to. I have found empowerment by continually expanding my skills and responsibilities over my lifetime. Basic independent living skills came first in that--I don't see how she can live a full life if she is stuck at needing others to do very basic things. She is 22 and currently living with her mom, who was not very present in her life previously. Her mom mentioned to my husband that she has not washed dishes since moving in. I have a good (but long-distance) relationship with her, and I absolutely disagree that manipulating others is a sign of strength or a positive, as she seemed to be implying. She made me wonder how often I have enabled her or others by doing for them unnecessarily, simply because I never questioned that even if they were struggling they were doing their best. But I do not know her that well, and I am seriously not sure how to express my concern about this. Sorry so long, but I would love advice.

I screwed up out of fear, and recently lost a whole group of people I always thought I would at least be able to talk things over with. It's been a really hard time, and I'm doing my best to give it time and space, patience and all that. But I miss them, and I've got no choice but to wait and hope in time things can heal, and yeesh, that's been challenging to navigate. Anyway, thanks for this well timed video to help remind me that I'm already doing what I can about that situation.
