  • @ScottyBrockway
    @ScottyBrockway 2 дні тому

    That sounds like arcing, or leaky caps. If the tantalums are leaking dc that will draw the bias off on the transistors and they will shut off like a switch. I'm guessing that is what the problem is. If it's on loud sounds and power up, that would also make sense.

    For a manual solder sucker, I'd recommend the Vampire Tools VT-001-SS. It's a bit more expensive than the cheaper imitations that look almost exactly the same but don't last or work as well. The authentic version works great. It has a silicon tube on the sucker that is heat resistant and gives a good seal when sucking solder. The OG Vampire is made in Japan. It's rated 4.7 out of 5 on Amazon. I'd also suggest you purchase a pair of thin needle-nose pliers for grabbing broken leads, etc. On your power supply (and generally all electronics, including your juke box amp. Start with the power supply with this as everything else depends on correct, clean power) I'd suggest you start "at the wall" so to speak and work towards the output. Follow the flow of electrons. Check all transformer inputs/outputs, fuses, fuse holders. Check for oxidized connectors, wires broken inside the insulation, etc. i.e., the mechanical connections. Then check all the voltages at the test points and going to the connectors and coming out. There may be corroded connectors. Some voltages use another voltage as a reference. It may use 12 VDC as it's reference. Once the reference voltage is working, the others may fall in line. BTW, Mike's Amateur Arcade has a great method of removing old components without using a solder sucker. He heats one leg and "rocks" it out. Then he heats the other leg. He cleans the pad and clears the hole with solder-wick, removing any oxidation. Although flux is messy, it will make your life easier because it helps the solder to flow, stick to where it's supposed to stick and helps avoids bridged joints. Just get a bottle of 99.9% isopropyl alcohol (IPA), spritz it on, rub with your wife's toothbrush (j/k if you want to stay married) and wipe off.

    Hey Troy.. What you need to do is keep those mushrooms cleared out at the bottom say 3 or 4 inches of the screen. More if you can. Do it quickly. When the Centipede hits a mushroom it drops lower. Without the mushrooms it has to travel all the way across the screen giving you more time to shoot them. Start with that.

    Tubes need to be shiny or black, that's called the "getter" and takes care of any micro-vacuum leaks. If they turn white then they are bad. Often times old tubes will be fine, except power amp tubes. You can pull tubes to isolate hum too starting at the first pre-amp tube, it won't hurt anything, this is useful to isolate problems. Check the screen resistors on the power tubes, and make sure the bias adjustment is working properly because tubes can run away with no bias and burn up. That's the most common failure point in old amps. Amps are my area of knowledge as I work on guitar amps for 35+ years. Glad to answer any questions you have. Just finished the video. I'm wondering if the speaker wire is bad/corroded. Also running the amp without a load on it is bad to do and can cause a flyback event. The volume control is suspect, and a good cleaning of it/them and all the connectors would be a good start. If that doesn't help then need to start checking voltages and resistors. It doesn't sound distorted so I don't think there is any issue with the output transformers or section that is catastrophic. It may just be a bias problem too causing low output due to being biased too cold.
