In reference to my prior message and after reading some of the responses I’ll say that to the guy that mentioned alumniclear paint with etching properties , Thank you , also I have sandblasted aluminum wheels in the past and depending on the material and the profile of or particular size you can create a big problem especially using a black beauty which is and immediate removal but takes the rest of your life to get it polished . Sand doesn’t fit the need either . Have found that a very fine glass bead works great but the paint or powder coating will heat up under the friction when applied and tends to melt and smear so you need to keep it moving and coming back to those spots once cooled . The results are pretty hood leaving you with much less wool to take to the polished look and wet sanding does definetly help cut down on time after coating is blasted off . Many great ideas within this video and I thank you all for them even the Dawn dishwashing liquid , lol !

Been experimenting myself on f150 wheels . These are two tone powder coated clear and grey which as you have shown that looks like an old book that is ate up by book worms lol . Much worse than you showed in your video . I actually was afraid to apply the paint remover as it is wicked aircraft paint remover from advance auto , in addition it hard to escape those nasty fumes and will burn your skin so did not use it . I sanded the wheels with a small air orbital san 6:44 der and a 6” orbital sander but couldn’t escape the large amount of hand sanding as well . I notic😂d you never mentioned as to if you wet sanded or not , I did and made it much easier and smoother . Looked good polished but now retired I did have some training and knowledge of 2 and 3 coat industrial paints . The polyurethanes and macropoxys , Al kids and inorganic zinc along with some knowledge of chemical corrosion resistant powder coating as in PFA , PVDF , ETFE and ECTFE which those coatings are used in the semi conductor and chemical industries . Costly and is the best protection overall . With that being said what I was concerned about was after the wheels are polished and look great I wanted that same appearance once I aplyied the 2K sherwin Williams automotive paint to look as good or better . I do know for good adhesion you need a profile on the surface of the substrate and the clear will adhere to itself with a 1500 grit surface prep but that’s not the polished shine look like you acquired and I wanted . Honestly I thank you for the idea of using the duplicolor adhesion promoter and was about to inquire as to if there may be and etching clear primer of sorts for bare metal and watched your video which I do believe will work ! Without it the clear goes n with various size spots like looking like the opposite of beading up on a waxed surface but the beads are inverted for a lack of better description and paint in those small blotches because there isn’t sufficient surface profile for the clear ! Again thank you for this video it was and I’m sure will be what I needed !

Is the spindle angle adjustable or fixed relative to the top and bottom rail pieces?

You don't need anywhere near 120 grit sandpaper, 400/800/12000 is all u need. Anything more than that is overkill, you're just going to end up causing yourself more work than anything else.

If you put your rattle cans in really hot water for 5 minutes before spraying it gets the pressure up in the can and it sprays out awesome.

Good job with making and sharing a video of your personal experiences with using varying solvents, adhesion promoters and etc to paint clear on quite a nice set of viper wheels. I've sprayed alot bull dog both through the can and gun and the solution made for the gun works better for a finer more even mist. Nevertheless, the duplicolor products are great too. However, as you saw using an adhesion promoter before a clear cote (which shows everything..amplified) can be tricky, the adhesion promoter needs to be sprayed perfect as does the clear. 2nd option is to use a clear cote spray designed specifically for aluminum with etching properties called, Alumaclear. I've done both routes and both have held up, but using alumaclear is certainly easier and cheaper with less steps. Just make sure those wheels are prepped correctly before spraying anything. Always wash with a good surfactant like dish soap, NOT car soap. Then wipe several times with lacquer thinner nothing else.

Iv seen some people remove the clearcoat with a sand blaster with fine sand

In general terms - the total cost of the railing was about equal to the cost of the trex decking - I believe somewhere around 2.5K for each.

What your problem is , you have to use a clear that’s for aluminum. This type of clear has etching properties and will stick to bare polished aluminum. Any other regular clear even with a adhesive promoter will not stick over time. Take the bulldog , all that is , is a lacquer based clear that is super sticky that in theory sticks to almost anything for a bit. However aluminum clear coat has etching properties just like etching properties primer. Hope this helps as this is how wheel manufacturers do it.

those deckmate face composite screws goes in easy BUT can not be removed easily or clean

The screws break very easily if you hit a knot.

I think slope rail is set too high for golden triangle of 6 inch spear also posts need to be cut down

Your stair rails are set too high, you will fail 6 inch golden triangle code on steps and posts need to be cut down by installer

Screw plug will fix that. Shldve drilled a hole then put in screw then screw plug.

Looks great! Love the look of metal/aluminum rails vs. wood. Not sure what railing code is in your area, where I'm at it calls for 4" max width between spindles and 6" at rise/run below bottom rail on stairs. Meaning a 6" sphere cannot pass through any gap below the bottom stair rail. This ultimately determines the height setting of the stair rails.

How is it holding up now?

On a rebuild, I had some Trex hidden fasteners than just would not grip. I substituted a 2 1/2" screw and that worked well. As for Camo, that is what I used on the last wood deck and those screws over time will rust, a bunch. Thanks for the video!

Just rebuilt a 600 sq ft deck with Trex and there hidden fastners and would never use them again they drove me crazy falling out with the 16' boards I used because of the bowing. I did use Fastenmaster cortex screws with the small tapered plugs on edges and would probably do whole deck with them if starting over. By the way I think those Trex fasteners are very expensive I think I have over 350 dollars in just them on this deck.

So did you have any instructions or just showing off! No this did not help maybe for sales . Terrible.

They strip super easy in older wood. Like if your re-decking an existing deck. I cannot use an impact; I had to use a drill with a catch and then hand tighten. I ended up using some soap on them and it helped, but they are not a strong at all.
