    Have you ever heard of a product called stop rust I haven't seen it for 35 years I don't know why it's not available or it has changed its name, it was a red oxide paint with a rust converter, I don't know if you can make your own by putting a rusk converter with red oxide paint ? I thought it was supposed to be a clear finish. Looks like everything is rusty now. Also arch liners should have come out before jet washing maybe? And no time to dry properly,needs time, probably a couple of days in warm weather. That's all I did when I treated my cars. Having said that, nice video.👍

    • @liverpoolscottish6430
      @liverpoolscottish6430 Рік тому

      Corrolan when newly applied is initially honey coloured, then it gradually changes colour and becomes transparent. No- the arch liners do not need to be removed prior to power washing- the whole point of liners is to prevent the ingress of dirt from the road spray and they do just that. Nor does it require two days for the vehicle to dry. The video clearly refers to the use of a blower to dry the chassis. In addition, corrolan- unlike petroleum based wax products, can be applied over a damp surface. It will draw moisture away from the surface and it emulsifies it within the wax.

A saturated market, always seems difficult to choose from so many excellent products. Listen for patterns and swear blind, "I never did that even once". Great fun and always much laughter for everyone. A good icebreaker as well. I confess to laughing even before the compressor started up because you just knew what was coming. Hi, I bought some EM121 back in January this year and I am about to start using it this coming week as my restoration work has taken way longer than I expected. I have a complete chassis to paint which I will be spraying after I have Stripe coated it. I am currently working up a plan for the work and was wondering how long to leave it after first spray coat before applying the second? I want to avoid having to key the surface between coats and the temperature is around 12-15 deg C. Kind regards Paul from 48 Spokes (YT Channel)

  • @romanmomot7930

    This is the first time I see professional preparation for painting, stripe coating is something that not many people have an idea of. They post videos on yutube and get excited about a job that is not quite well done, others who watch it are even more delighted because they have no idea about anti-corrosion at all. Anyone who does similar repairs should watch your video for a tutorial.

      Corrolan has been used for years now in the UK and Norway and isn’t a problem we have experienced. In truth it’s not something we’ve specifically tested though we have had a panel outside the building for 6 months and it’s intact, we are based on farm land and do have mice ocassionaly in the unit, whilst they do try to eat rape oil we have here they don’t go for the Lanolin.

    Interesting video. I understand now that you must prepare the surface so there is really only a thin layer of surface rust, otherwise there will still be a layer of rust underneath the converted layer, also do on a dry summers day to avoid moisture. However, that bracket you showed, and also when you talked about the seams, if the converter cannot penetrate a thin layer on a flat surface, how will it penetrate deep into the seam?? Or, is the answer it won't, but the only other option is to cut it out and rebuild, which isn't practical?

    • @uklam102
      @uklam102 3 роки тому

      Custom 421 is a pure epoxy primer ( needs top coating) EM121 is a epoxy mastic primer finish ( can be left un-coated). No need to use one over the other, 421 is most popular for body panels, 121 for underbody. Both perform fine over an etch primer as long as that primer is well stuck.

Ive been thinning to 20% however when im spraying the paint the texture is very rough and requires a lot of thinning. Im by no means a painter so im at a lose end as to why this is happening. The paint is stored inside but is used in a cold garage, i use a gas heater to slightly warm the garage and panel before painting yet it still seems very rough.

    • @uklam102
      @uklam102 3 роки тому

      Hello Ben, I would suggest adding more air into the mix as it sounds like the paint isn’t atomising correctly. You’ll need to be around 3-4 bar and 44-58psi but it’s no fine art, what works one day won’t necessarily the next. I would almost start again with some cardboard and set up at 15% thinner and work from there adjusting the air flow needle.

      Custom 421 is a very easy sand even at full cure, polyester spray fillers can typically give a very high build so I would suggest you’ll need to sand this thoroughly before coating with 421, otherwise you’ll sand through the 421. Would you not be better to use the 421 first and then apply the polyester over the top before applying another coat of 421. This way you would be sandwiching the polyester in between the 421
