Sonny & Cher Bang, Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) Live In Las Vegas/1973 ℗ 1973 Geffen Records As a 19th year old boy Jeff was on tour 1973. with Sonny and Cher. Although he later claimed that he never did drum solo, this is probably only one (maybe we can call it mini drum solo) he ever did in concerts.
I was just out of high school.. this CD changed my life.
...."hey Vinnie, can you back it up 20k notes, I missed the 5th note two seconds into your solo, thanks!" 🤣
조조마이어배워라?

the best part begins @ 3:35 Vinny sort said FUCK IT I think all half time-ee and shit
This youtube video should be titled "Vinnie Colaiuta Beast Mode"!!😅😮
Why was he furious
He sounds so much better on his Gretsch ...
Do you wanna do it?! Do it! Hey alright!
Peut-être le batteur le plus complet au monde ! Quelle technique ! Un monstre ! Dans le groupe WEATHER REPORT il aurait été merveilleux aussi !
Alot of experts in this comment section hooolyy.
Makes me wonder why he left Yamaha as an endorser. This drum sound is fire
Oh jeff! ❤
I was wondering who the awful vocalist was lol. Excellent soling the first but ,but some of us never liked to solo me included the time and groove was your main job. RIP Jess 'Groovemaster Supreme'
Many jobs in the music business require some soloing, if not a major part. If you can't solo, you aren't a full musician, esp in commercial music. Time/Groove are important but what are you going to do when the bandleader says, "drummer, take 3 whole choruses." ? Are you going to play the form or get lost or not even know what he is talking about. Yes, soloing is just as important as time keeping !!
Jeff was never fond of soloing!
He did not develop himself as a soloist.....self taught with high valuabel insight from family and those in the biz.....He was not a full musician in the sense that he only kept time and did not develop as a solo drummer when needed.
@@toseedyou drumming is all about groove asnd time, soloing with drums is fucking stupid
Jeff is one of my favorite drummer alone with Neal there is no other two that I care for and yes there are good drummers these two will always be my favorite that's just the way it is
lololol
…was reading the credits to Pink Floyd The Wall and learned that Jeff played on Mother! After listening closely you can hear why he was chosen for this track. His feel is simply unreal.
I don't think they chose Jeff just because they wanted his feel, they needed somebody that could play it. Nick Mason couldn't figure it out.
@@Cpayne30 so...they chose Jeff BECAUSE of his feel. I have a hard time believing the Nick would have had trouble figuring this song. After all he is quite the human metronome and did extremely well on all the PF classics we know and love. I dunno... I guess only they know.
@@luvbasses5487 I've always heard the story as Nick just couldn't get it. Now Waters' definition of that could be that Nick couldn't do it to his taste. I just figure that Porcaro was picked because of his status, by Bob Ezrin - not really because the whole band sat down and said "Nick, we know this perfect guy for the feel of this."
THey needed to do it quickly due to studio restrictions, paid time etc. I think they were in France at the time. Nick couldn't catch the bar changes quickly enough to record it in full take in the time they had. The band was already into a lot of personal clashes. I think they've fired Rick Wright by that time as a full band member.@@Cpayne30
A legend at work
He was'nt a solo drummer
Colaiutaesue
Totally agree , very coliauta like phrasing wise. Coliauta has always had more range solo wise but pocaro here shows he is cleaner with what he does play here. The snare licks are super crispy
@@brianmcguire5175 Firstly, LEARN TO SPELL !!!! COLAIUTA !!! Vinnie's solo chops are more developed than anyone else ! He can solo chorus after chorus chorus after choruschorus after chorus chorus after chorus without repeating himself and his ideas AND phrasing is totally unique...no one has even come close to cloning him as many do for Gadd. Vinnie is a one of a kind and has just as much pocket (groove) as Porcaro, even more, because Vinnie colors it with unique touches !
@@toseedyou learn to spell!? Why are you arbitrating? I don't respect your view and that's my opinion here. Leave me alone so. Tell me your name so I can spell it wrong for you. Glad you can transcend minor errors and focus on substantive issues. Bye
@@toseedyou to reiterate, you accuse me of dyslexia while I accuse you of none serious contributions to a normally friendly discussion. ps, my points are smarter than yours, as shown via scope
@@toseedyou ok, I'm gonna leave my former messages up but I want to take back my defensive attack on you saying you aren't serious or that I'm smarter. It's not what I truly believe. I take it back. Just reacted negatively to your spelling comment. I'm leaving the exchange above though for internet interest though. I'd like now to soften my position and say that I do in fact respect you position on Colaiuta (hopeful spelt correctly now and if so it's because of you correcting me) . He is among or if not is my favourite drummer. But I try not to compare drummers like Pokémon cards. It's all music and human based after all. Preference is one thing but objective assesment is another. So, my final thoughts on my exchange with you is: I take back my crude assumptions about you expressed above. I actually am more aligned with your overall view on Colaiuta I'm comparative terms , strictly academically speaking though. And I'd like a reset between us that has us both sharing our views rather than clashing them. Yes, above is more my comments than yours but the spark of the fire wasn't mine to begin with . Let's reset and resume candor. Overall, I'm a fan of Vinnie just like you but also I invite you to lead away from demigod following. You must be a young fan and so with my older wisdom I advise broadening your respect scope. I don't want a drum monopoly, I personally enjoy the rich pool of talent this world offers us music fans. Don't you? I believe you do. So let's start there
Simply skin-tingling!

Humble person, great musician!
@Tomi Igo No, I listened many stories from my friends who known him
You knew him?
@@Samsgarden not personally but I know many people who have known him and told me so. Do you have a personal event of thinking differently?
mejor batero americano de la historia
It should have had video
I dont get it... What is the one thing he did on record? And why is this so special? Buddy rich has incredible fills and such that are lightyears ahead of this.
The point of this being special is that it is one of few (perhaps the only) examples of Jeff Porcaro playing a drum solo. He publicly stated that he was not that type of drummer. He would have been the first to admit he was not in the same league as Buddy technically. He was however considered one of the greatest recording drummers ever. He played on over 3000 sessions and is on hundreds of albums, including artists such as Steely Dan, Barbara Streisand, Paul McCartney, Sergio Mendes, Michael Jackson, Dire Straights, Larry Carlton ,(the list is exhaustive) as well as his own band Toto. If you want to explore his discography see en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Porcaro
TheReedable, you obviously don't know who Jeff Porcaro was!
@@mancuniancandidatem wow I see. Thanks man.
@@micknordstrom2591 no I did not! But when I go down a rabbit he of drum solos and I get this, I wasn't impressed at the time. However, I am ignorant though.
Buddy Rich is not the best drummer in the world, not even the 5#
Jeff is one reason I took up drums 40 odd years ago and I've never liked to solo myself. Just recently learned he didn't like soloing either. I love a good solo with a sublime soloist like Steve Gadd, Simon Phillips, Larnell Lewis, etc. They amaze me with such proficiency. Mine is trying to make a band sound their best.
I've been a drummer for 20+ years and I've never enjoyed drum solos. I just feel like the drum isn't an instrument designed for solos. It's designed to keep the beat, to create a groove, and to provide tasty fills occasionally. But solo,....no. After about 10 seconds,....boring!
As a drummer myself, I'm hear to keep the groove alive.
@@BST-lm4po wtf, drum solos are beautiful
Amazing!!!
They probably made Jeff do this, too, lol. I don't know, of course, but Jeff always stated that he never developed solos and frankly didn't like the sound of just him playing drums alone without an entire rhythm section. He didn't even have a drum kit in his home after he moved out of his parents house. I have heard recordings of him screwing around and he had chops but never had any interest in "woodshedding" (his term) solo routines. Plus, this is the early 70s and from what I have heard of drummers before the 80s and later, drum solos were usually imitations of Rich with lots of snare rudiments being the basis.
He sounds like two drummers. Amazing.
Fuckinell he’s worse than me at solos
Damn you must be really fucking good

Jeff was a excellent rock drummer funk Simon Phillips was a outstanding drummer and drum solos I love both of them
@@adamgoodberg3916 You’re good, but you’re not jeff porcaro good
Bet you. You couldn't play an album straight to vinyl with band in studio and get it nailed within 1st 2nd or 3rd takes though who gives a rat ass about drum solos anyways
He was the very best that God could have made, a beautiful, generous, loving cat as well, deeply missed...
Whoa....that was EPIC ! ! !
You can dance to that solo and that is a rare feat.
I first saw him with Sonny and Cher and he's the only one I really remember from that show. He was brilliant!
The only drummer in the world who doesn’t need drumsolo’s, he was and still is the greatest groove drummer in the world.
No doubt 👍

Best Barlow's Conundrum performance ever. Sad there is not video footage of it.
I hear Bonham's things
In his solo Rudiment and rudiment . Musicality nothing.
That was from 75 or 76 Live At the Sahara Nights. Sonny & Cher in Vegas. I have the 8 track believe it or not. Jamie
What a technic Jeff had, and he wouldn’t show it , he was humble. I only have to listen to “These chains” which is my favourite to understand how good he was.
Yeah, "These Chains", one of my favorite tracks with Jeff! Also love "My Parties" by Dire Straits, another outstanding example of Jeff's shuffle-grooves. ❤🔥💯👍🙏
Mushanga too that stuff is confusing rosanna is pure gold and hold the line
he even had the groove on his solo here
