How To: Keep your head unit ON when turning OFF your motor 23.5+ Harley-Davidson Road / Street Glide
In this video I will show you how to keep your head unit on while turning your motor off. This will be especially helpful if you want to keep your music playing while stopping to fuel up your motorcycle for example.
FOR NON CVO’s:
This is the process you will if your running Tim’s Stereo Systems Kickstand Bypass part OR if you don’t have HD P&D kickstand sensor installed.
FOR CVO’s or those with the HD P&A Kickstand Sensor Installed:
All you will have to do is put your kickstand down while in gear and the motor will cut off but will leave your head unit on. I believe you then can put the bike in neutral if you choose to and it will still stay on.
---
If you're interested in picking up Tim's Kickstand Bypass you can do so by contacting him (information below). Full transparency; I do not make a commission off the sale but the Kickstand Bypass was sent to me for free to verify it functioned on a non-CVO (new body style):

Kendon Scorpion Motorcycle Dolly: Unboxing, Assembly & Review
thanks for the tip big dog 🙏
does the ABS and TC light always blink on your screen before/when starting?
Is there a comparable for Android?
I believe their is yes but not 100% sure where to find it. The OS itself may have something and the music app your using may have something as well.
How do you adjust the equalizer? I went to the equalizer tried to figure out what buttons to push, and I could not figure it out.
If your in the custom setting you should just be able to move those bars up and down his the touch screen.
@ thanks, I figured it out by doing that.
Can you give more information about where you got the wiring harness?
timsstereo.com/product-category/24/
Great advice I will turn mine off. But, rather listen to the engine while riding
Put these on mine, clutch side sticks out beyond the grip farther than the throttle side…. Looks funky
Just went out to the garage to check mine and I’m not noticing that as being an issue on mine. 1) are you sure you ordered the correct ones? 2) have you made the property adjustments? Send me a DM on IG and I’ll send you some photos how mine are. My IG is @HDRyderCT
It took me forever to figure that out.
I was told how to do it by Tim from Tim’s stereo systems and made a video based off his info. Nice little trick.
@@hdryderct absolutely. Knowledge is great to share.
We really love your video!!! Please have a check on the sponsorship email, thanks!!!!!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it. I’ve checked my inbox and my junk folder and haven’t seen anything come through yet. When I do I’ll review.
@@hdryderct Sent once again, please have a kind check!!🙏
I have a Sportster S. Has anyone found out how to do this on this bike? I was so glad to have found this video - unfortunately it didn't work. And believe me, I tried for a very long time. 😅
From what. Found on the HD website is that they sell the siren as a stand alone accessory. With that said have you purchased and installed the siren module? If you haven’t then they would be why no sound is coming from the bike and why you can’t get it to work. www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/security-siren-kit/p/69000124
@@hdryderct I should have added that, of course I installed the siren. Unfortunately, Harley's operating instructions are probably inadequately written but have not been checked. Even the transport mode is described incorrectly there. Perhaps someone else will get in touch who has got rid of the “chirping” on a Sportster S. Many thanks so far!
@@Aki-ui2kwsorry I couldn’t help more. For me the instructions didn’t help either by install either. From some videos I watched on your bike it seemed as though after install it just worked. If it didn’t I would just keep mess around with it kinda like I did in my video. Good luck.
Will it work with flat out bars?
Yes it will. The CVO Road Glide ST comes with those and had this same lower fairing setup as the CVO’s so will work.
Saved my ass. Thanks dude.
Glad to hear the video helped you out. Appreciate you checking it out.
Got it in today
Awesome!
Do you have a side picture with it painted?
@@davidbarmaster8336 checkout my Instagram @HDRyderCT
That's the only reason you buy the siren is for the chirp/sound. The bike already has the alarm built in with no sound. There's a remote as well. I think I will bypass the siren this time because I always forget about it when I take off the fuse and the noise is irritating. I never used the remote as well and it just eats up batteries without using it.
I usually power off the remote when I’m not using it so that the battery doesn’t drain as fast but yeah it has security built in bit flashing lights is absolutely pointless. The whole purpose of the audible siren is to draw attention. To each their own.
I changed the setting way back since I’ve had my 2015 Road Glide Special new. It’s just something you learn
I was wondering, on the 24 road glide, do you have to buy anything else or just the smart siren II kit to have some sound to the alarm? Is the security system included but no siren installed? Just got mine and can't find any info. Even the FOB, I see a lot of different FOBs from a somewhat water drop shape to a rounded square shape... I need something to put the FOB in that is not as fugly as the plasticky rounded square thing-a-ma-jig that Harley gives you 😅
Included with the bike is security where just the lights will flash (wig wag) but no siren. If you buy a CVO or CVO ST I believe both come with the siren installed already otherwise you’ll have to buy the security siren from the P&A catalog. I’m not sure what you mean by the second part of your comment.
A cup holder?!?!
Yes it is the Ciro 3D cup holder.
What mounts did you use?
Sorry for the delay. This is the mount I am using. a.co/d/4v6eX46
Great catch!
G.M. Sir can you please tell me what's the name of the bike stand/ chock your bike is on and is it removable?
It is on a Condor Products Motorcycle Dolly. Makes moving the bike around much easier and allows it to be stored easier as well for the winter months. I just happen to keep the bike on it all the time.
Thanks for the response.
I heard that you needed to change the crash bar / engine bar
Nope you do not. If you watch the video you will see it’s a completely different mount and is in now way tied to the engine guard.
You DO NOT need the Tim's Cable for this to work... This works on a perfectly stock 2024 bike. I don't have the cable and I do this Every time I get gas. This will work on ALL 2024 Road/Street Glides.
If you read the video description I’ve updated it to reflect this. When I made the video this wasn’t know and this isn’t something that’s been shared on the groups that I’ve seen to begin with.
@@hdryderct Sorry, I didn't mean for that to come across aggressive. I was just pointing out the ability to run it without the cable.
@@lifebehindbars68 You’re good. My apologies my response was pretty dickish.
Awesome Video!!! I love Tim's stuff. I did a video when he gave me a mini tour of his shop. Love how you showed this feature. Just an FYI...that feature of keeping the screen on is already on the 23.5+'s models. I always keep the music going when I come to a pump to fill up exactly like you displayed. I had mine bone stock when I first started using this feature. No bypass installed. I use this feature all the time since day 2 of owning my bike with everything bone stock.
Yeah I actually watched that video. He’s a great guy. Had a chance to meet him in Laconia. I actually just found out about the CVO’s which have that sensor from the factory (pretty cool). Also found out this works on the non CVO bikes even without a Kickstand Sensor / Bypass installed. I’m gonna start using it myself now that I know about it.
@@hdryderct Thks for sharing, will this work if the bike is in natural without the kickstand bypass?
@@VTG63 so for the non-CVO bikes or bikes that have Tim’s Kickstand Bypass installed you do not need to out the kickstand down (in this video mine is up) but for bikes with the P&A Harley bypass sensor the easiest way to do this same thing is by putting the kickstand down. You might be able to follow the steps I did and get it to do the same thing but I haven’t tested.
i couldn't tell. Did the headlight turn off during this operation? Thanks!
I rewatched the video and it does not look like it shut off. I don’t know if it’s a timed thing or if it’ll just always stay on. Unfortunately can’t check it now as I’m at work so can look Sunday.

Glad you found it helpful and thanks for subscribing. Greatly appreciate it 👍
Does Android have settings like this?
@@kevingillilan4629 honestly not 100% sure but I would assume it has something similar.
do you or anyone out there, know why the media setting isnt saved like other settings. Every time the bike is shut off, the media setting reverts to what appears to be a pre set level. HD customer service nor the dealership have no idea.
Which media settings specifically?
@hdryderct the media setting in volume control....both seem to be linked....as volume increases/decreases so does the media sub category
Check out Volunteer Audio, he explains all this and more about the '24 audio systems
You know the tread size for those
I don’t; sorry.
Seems like when you start the bike the sound drops but as soon you shut the bike off its loud asf.....i would never buy a 2024 tho there ugly asf
To each their own. Man said that when they saw the redesign and they are selling like crazy.

Thanks for the video, just mounted mines and it looks great!
No problem at all. Glad it was able to help 👍🏻
What is the crossfade option?

@@hdryderct what is the function of it on the iPhone? I can’t wait to try the sound check off on my triglide

This helped me out a ton! Appreciate all the info brother @monks_made
Did the same on my 24 rg alpine green tin swap on blk trim. Came out great. They came painted gloss black which doesnt look bad while i wait to get it painted
Yeah the painted blacks don’t look bad. I just got them unpainted to have them color matched. Lot less prep when actually going to paint them. Of course Carbon Visionary came out with them in Crushed Carbon now (they don’t sell the mounting hardware though) but cost $530.
@hdryderct yeah I thought they were coming unpainted! Didn't know they'd be black but I'm not complaining 🤣 carbon would be sick tho
@@Stripping_Bolts Depends what kit you buy. Kit A is painted black with black plastic. Kit B was unpainted white plastic but now I'm told will be unpainted black plastic going forward.
@hdryderct idk I just got mine from some random Chinese seller on ebay lol no options to choose from
@@Stripping_Bolts gotcha. Yeah there are a few different sellers.
Great vid! Ill be doing this mod as well on my 2024 RG Burst Blue been taking it apart to get a lot of things paint matched so I might as well add this too!
Thank you. Glad it was able to help you out some. Great color choice by the way 😎
So much easier than before
Did not work for me, same same. But I use Pandora not Apple music. Anyways tried with both heard no difference. I usually use a headset also. My complaint is the GPS, when it's telling me something the volume is low and if I catch it I can raise the volume but the next time it says something its right back to low volume. That is annoying. What is the fix for that?
Yeah I just downloaded it to see if there was a setting and looks like Pandora doesn’t have one. You can change those settings for prompt volume and where the audio comes out in the head units settings. I’ll probably have to make a video on that one.
@@hdryderct Yeah I know how to do that. Doesn't matter always reverts to low volume. My Goldwing doesn't do that, same headset. Anyways.
@@ralphcaro9374sorry can’t help more then. Idk why yours is reverting. I set mine and it’s stayed where I put it.
Thank you buddy.. I was over here trying to twist & push from the opposite side with needle nose, like hold on.. someone on yt may have a better solution haha
🤣 not a problem. Glad that I could help you out.
Same,…wasted an hour at least. Thank you HDRyderCT
What is the name of the seat lock you have?
It is from Robert Becker Designs - robertbeckerdesign.com

It really works & makes a big difference! Can’t wait to try it on my 14 Limited with my new Soundstream V2 radio! Thank you!
Thanks for leading me to Apple music. Apple music is much louder then Spotify what I use all the time. I tested both streaming platforms on my 24 RG and Apple Music is much louder. I will still need to upgrade but I will try it out when I get a chance.
Sorry you had to switch but glad that it’s working out better for you and I was able to help 👍🏻
thanks...your right...the instructions are not clear...
Hope the video was helpful. Shouldn’t be this difficult. HD should have had the instructions updated upon model release. It was very frustrating trying to get it to work.
Are you having any issues with the hold releasing? After I did the PSR levers it is not wanting to disingage. ( I just discovered this and haven’t reached out to PSR fyi)
The only issues I had with the levers initially was that when they were st the lowest setting on the Journey levers I could not enable the brake hold feature. So brake hold not easily releasing wouldn’t be an issue because of the levers. It was difficult to disengage with the stock levers for me as well. Does there make sense?
Great content.
Not sure to understand the interest to do that ?
It's so you can have your brakes hold you when you are stopped on a hill, but in neutral. I've actually wanted that quite a bit.
And what does it cost for this bypass?
That’s I am not sure. It was a test unit sent to me so any of those questions you’d have to email, call or message Tim.
It’s great to have especially if you’re stuck in traffic in an incline / decline. You don’t have to sit their and hold your clutch in because currently on the 2024’s (non-CVO) if you don’t wanna hold the clutch in you have to be in Neutral and you’ll be holding that brake. With this you don’t have to hold either.
@@Locle-xm9ndcost is $60 + $10 shipping. Dealer will more than likely charge 1/2 hour labor to flash the bike for it to work.
Nice! My biggest gripe is that I had to purchase an iPhone to use my $30,000.00 bike on top of 8.59% interest with a 770 score? WTF, right? Biden, forgive my loan.....
🤣🤣🤣 I hear you on that one. Fortunately I’m an iPhone user lol. But blame Android for that one. They are the ones that dropped support for 2 wheels.
Luckily things are good enough for you to buy a $30K bike and afford 8.59% interest 🙄. People like to complain all while spending like wildfire. Must not be too bad out there 😉
@@hdryderctno proof of that
8.5? Shesh they tried hitting me with 27% with a 800 credit score lol
@xx412xxbluntz8 yea I got hit with 15 percent. Ridiculous
When you have the clutch on #1 are you still able to start the bike with the clutch pulled in? I recall Flo levers have this issue.
On these levers on the lowest setting the bike still started no issue. I have their Anthem Pro Levers on the bike now which have even greater adjustment. Was working on a follow up video for the new levers so I’ll have to look and see if that changes anything. Stay tuned! Thanks for the question.
