Enjoyed this John - good feast and crazy weather!
Glad you enjoyed it
Is this a monthly thing? and can anyone join?
Yes if you have a Border Terrier who you can control. It's the last Sunday in every month, so it's on again next Sunday. 11am start time at Formby. Details on the Borderfest Facebook page

Great video
Only had it a few days, but yeh I like it. I got it with the controller and 2 extra batteries for longer and further flights, but I've not had chance to try it with them yet. But hand held it's good
How are you getting on with the DJI Neo?
Nice one John. How much does that set you back. Does look a bit idiot proof. Magic??
The drone is only £169 But the fly more kit is £299 Yes it's idiot proof, but the batteries don't last long even in a gentle breeze
Very cool what tech can do these days. Happy new drone!
Looks bloody lovely round there mate. Enjoying retirement I see!

does the paddle split in half to carry on your bike?
Yes it does
Can you record performance from the river bank and little longer?
@@sebastianjachimowicz3078 it's going to Scotland this weekend for the packraft meet up. Will you be there too?
@@JohnClimber no, not this time

Do you think the Caribou tracks well enough and is fast enough for longer lake trips?
Since I've made this film, I've realised that the Caribou is just too short. It is hard to paddle and not to hit your bike all the time especially when you want to get a full paddle stroke in. As for speed it only paddles at walking speed, no packraft is fast and it only tracks well with a skeg fitted. I had to retro fit a skeg on my Caribou. I have since sold the Caribou in favour of a longer packraft
What a beautiful adventure, I cycled some of it last year, but not with a raft. I am deliberating over which to buy...
Not as much hiking but if I need to , I want to be able to be able to put mine in my pack and get on the go. I have a 60 pound dog I want to bring with. Sleeping bag, tent, water, food and camping supplies. I want to be able to do a week long. Should I go with the Ranger or perhaps even the forager (both by Alpacka)?
I have never paddles a packraft like the forager but I like the idea. The ranger would be my choice as it's a longer version of the Caribou. I have sold my Caribou recently and gone for a longer version to carry bikes ad my paddle kept hitting the bike on the front of the caribou. But if you like canoe type paddling the Forager is a good choice too
metric crap doesn't tell me what i want to know
Film is for the technical team at GoPro to see why the horizon is not where the horizon should be when the film was edited.
I bought an MRS Adventure X2 for Bikepacking. The Bike will fit on the Boat but will the boat fit on the Bike. I will have to try😂
great fun you had not sure on the choice of bike tho
What's wrong with the bike?
how tall are you and how satisfied are you with the size of the boat?
1. 72m high and very, very satisfied with it. A friend had a go on it in it's calm water set up yesterday and instantly bought one.
But buy the pressure pump and the foam seat to go onto of the inflatable floor to let the white water rush out. It won't with the normal seat in please with the WW vent open like it does the foam seat
@@JohnClimber Ok, thanks! with 1.85 I think I'll go with the XL Version then
Thanks for the information, I'll do that :)
@@DerRentner818 I think the CL will be fine for you as my feet are still around 300mm for the end when my knees are in the thigh straps
Great idea! John, from your experience so far, what are pros and cons for you using the Greenland paddle (GP) while packrafting compared to the "classic" Euro paddle? I have heard from kayakers that the GP may offer a faster and smoother paddling experience. One of the downside though seems to be more water dripping, since there are no drip guards and that the hands tend to touch the water surface more often..
It's a 1 piece paddled that I have calved, so can't carry it in a rucksack or on my bike. And yes the lack of drip rings make for a wetter paddle. I'm going to test 2 cable ties fixed around the paddle to see if they help as drip rings next week when I'm in the water. The paddle feels nicer to paddle with than a euro blade but only good for deep water over shallow flowing rivers
@@JohnClimber Thank you, your answer, especially the details are very helpful! I am contemplating buying a 2nd hand, 2-piece carbon GB, that's on offer locally. Since nobody bought it in months I will wait until you report about your drip ring experiment (great idea using cable ties), since the dripping part would be the only down side for my use case (longer trips on deep rivers and lakes).
@@alexmultimodalpackrafting915 thinking about it, maybe the cable ties might damage my packraft. On my normal blades I use a small piece of Duct tape very successfully fir this, but as my DIY Greenland paddle is wood and covered in oil the tape wouldn't stick to it. But it will stick to your carbon one. Dear youtube for duct tape drip stoppers on paddles
would any of these be suitable for kayaking 6km along the coast?
Onky the MRS Nomad and onky in calm conditions after yours had coastal packraft training
Love your mission Fat Bike on a blow up ballon… amazing!!
Cheers mate, bring your fat bike and give it a go
Looks fun!
Thanks, yes it was
Can you get all the way to hightown on the kayak
Yes, but it's a scrape in places most of the year, best just after rain as long as its not too high, and use a head torch for the Switch Island long tunnel
What tires were on this fork?
Knard's
What's not to love about Elan Valley!
Even in bad weather, it's still better than a good day in work
Thanks for sharing. What happens when you hit too big a bump and you bottom out the suspension? What stops it from going too far?
The fork had a built in bump stop the fork at maximum travel.

Looks like a cracking weekend you guys had nice video
It sure was mate
great video . I also plan to get the Gp Cargo and do bike rafting tours with it. a question . can you take additional luggage with you? How many liters of storage space are left when a bike is included. Greetings from Germany
There is plenty of luggage space under the bike frame area that can be used to brace your feet. You can fix luggage on the sten behind you and even on the bike, but this spoils the view a little

What size are the rims!
They are the standard ones in the mango bike that come with it
What's your thoughts on the longevity of the tpu vs pvc under moderate use? I've been considering the Rouge for an all around raft but not sure the life expectancy of that boat.
The longest boat that I've owned is a single sided TPU, I can't comment on anything over 5 years though. PVC is worst for the planet I'm told but have nothing to back this up. Plus its 3 to 4 times the weight and packed down size too
@@JohnClimber yeah from my research it sounds like tpu is the better material. There's just something about the durability of the PVC that makes it seem like an indestructible raft but I'm not sure the longevity since I'm new to rafting.

Nice video! How much care do you take when positioning the bike to avoid damage to the boat? I notice you mention pedal projections but I wonder if you add any paddling or protection. When putting the Brompton on the Norse Longship raft I find it very hard to avoid the sticking out bits
Thanks, no I don't use any protecting between the bike and packraft. Just be careful when placing the bike on board. But on my Caribou I do use a cycling glove over my pedal to protect the packraft. But you can get specific "pedal protectors" if you just Google it.
Film showing the packraft in use here ua-cam.com/video/Xp232sKwaDQ/v-deo.html
How long should a paddle be? or is it personal preference? How long is your paddle?
Mine is just over 2m, but it will keep hitting the frame of the bike from time to time. Today I'm trying the new longer bike carrying packraft called the GP Cargo from Anfibio which shouldn't have this problem. I'll put up a film on here if you subscribe you should see it in a few days

Tarmac question: Is it spongy going up hill? do you notice loss of energy when doing a traffic light start (on flat surface)?
A little, but if you ride on roads get a rigid fork, if you want comfort off road on gravel and cross country trails this is the fork to buy
Really useful video, thanks!
No problems

Hi John, thanks for your video. Can you answer a question for me as a first timer in 2022? It looks like riders can park their cars at Staveley and camp overnight the night before the big off? Is that the case? Me and my riding buddy are coming up from the south of England so just making a plan in advance. 19 weeks to go!
Hi Dan, you leave your car at the campsite which is a farmers field about 1/2 mile NW of Staveley outbon a quiet country lane.
