Nottingham Area Bus Society’s big move!
Переглядів 9904 роки тому
On September 20th 2020, we decided that today was the day for the biggest move I’ve seen to date! The day started off with the open topper, known to be a pain to start after 3 attempts and some brake cleaner as a helping hand she started! Next to come out was the Leicester city. After she was moved it was time to get the felix out of the main building to place her into storage. Our Barton 517 n...

Ki-Gass!
a new set of glow plugs by the sounds of it. diesel should start easier than that. 🤔
This is a direct injected diesel engine and does not have glow plugs
It was awful that we lost the AEC Renown to arsonists. AEC Regent V 266 was restored as new but I'm told it is now in Stafford and has been hacked to pieces. All that work and expense gone to waste!
Would I be right in saying that the AEC Renown would have been saved from the arson attack? Anyway, well done for all your hard work.
I loved these buses, the colour scheme, the sound of their engines, the upholstery that used to prickle my legs as a youngster wearing short trousers. I used to take one from Loughborough to Gotham with my mum to visit my grand parents during the 1960s and 1970s. In the early days they had a conductor from whom one bought one's ticket, I loved the sound of the ticket machine and the way they got the change from the coin dispenser. Thank you for the memories.
Nice bus, would make an ideal conversion to electric.
So NICE to see an AEC in Green Livery😇
Im an Ilswich native and Regent 3s are a particular favourite of mind. We also had som Regal 4 single deckers again with pre selector gearboxes, the sound of those and the Regents were gorgeous! Their green and cream livery was most attractive but i think Nottinghams darker green as on 161 is better, a luscious dark green that must havd been a joy for the painters to apply. Where have all the stately classic colours gone, so many brash colours these days and paint layouts that have no respect for the natural lines of a well designed vehicle. I wish i could ride on gorgeous 161 !!!
Absolutely a brilliant video man I just subscribe to your channel. This is the first time I’ve ever heard one of these buses ever do you think you could do more like this one? Because wow stay safe man.
40 years ago I used to drive these. We had 3 of them in the yard. A pleasure to drive and very comfortable. Your man gave a smooth drive apart from a couple of scratchy changes. Brought back memories. Very enjoyable.
These were very good and did the Nottingham Derby run,, I was garage staff but sometimes did the run on a Saturday in summer , I was finished when trent took over (thankfully)
Not built in 1957 but rebody then the chassis was originally a 1940s single decker,, Bill Redfern of the real BartoN Transport Ltd from 1961 until (awfull) trent take over
Great video love all of them I own a preserved 2002 OPTARE EXCEL 2 FD02SFN MERCEDES BENZ engine ex Nottingham transport fleet 561 based at town and district transport trust in Great harwood out on her first event in September 2/3
O, M G, Look Bus spotters playing at being bus drivers,, I worked for the REAL BartoN Transport Ltd from 1961 until the awfull trent take over,, doing Running repairs Breakdown-Recovery local and long distance. Emergency and part time bus/coach driver,, What a good job,, It was for real when I did it, (Badge EE 45170 ) Bill Redfern
I travelled on the very same buses as the green one, & I LOVED them! Today's buses are just soulless tin boxes. I'm licenced to drive buses, & I'd just LOVE to drive one of those great old ones!
Great video. Snowing is now double de clutching should be done.
once it was warmed up it purrs like a kitten.
Beautiful sound love it
brakes binding in reverse?
It’s a good job this vehicle hasn’t got a range change gearbox in it with this clown driving it,hasn’t got a clue what gear he’s in half the time, hope he’s not licensed to carry passengers because with 49 passengers on board he wouldn’t have a clue how to drive the thing.
I AGREE WITH YOU,, Bill Redfern from the REAL BartoN Transport Ltd Chilwell from 1961 until redundant by trent,
I was a driver at Sherwood depot and city depot . We drove Layland Mark 5 at that time. The fastest bus at Sherwood depot was bus No:44 or cold be 22 1970 era .We also used the Route master for the Mapperley run, as this was a steep climb.
When does Harry get on board?
I would love to ride on one of these!
Hi Guy's it is Mr C. T. Boxill-Harris again I was thinking, Why couldn't you find other more 16 nice fresh Shiny Leyland Titan B15's and repaint them Also into a Imperial Cream and Green like the Essex East London Bus route H1 and 100 so they can Share a chance to run on the London Bus route such as the N6, 41 and that includes the bus route Number Four, if you guy needed that interesting idea's to let us know on the comment's down below so you can reuse those Imperial Cream and Green Leyland Titan B15's on those interesting London bus Route, Please Please can you reuse them within the Begining of Every November within Every Five and a Half Months Thank You Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Much Guy's😉😉😀😃😀😃😀😀😃😅😀😃😀😃😀😀😃
Got a feeling I rode on this lovely bus at Llandudno transport festival - it's a semi-auto I think?
What a beautiful vehicle! Nice video!
WE know that in London as the RT over 5000 of them though the London spec RT chassis was different from what the provincial operators got but the ACE noises are very similar.
Was 666 one of the units damaged when vandals broke in and started a fire about 25 years ago. Do you still have the South Notts Albion Lowlander .
We do not sadly enough and 666 was not damaged in the fire from the information I know.
Thanks for your reply , I remember first seeing 666 at the commercial show at the NEC before Nottingham City Transport took delivery. I believe it was a concept body design that was never pursued.
666 suffered some heat damage as she was parked on the other side of the roller door (inside the building) to the main fire which was started outside. The metal shutter got so hot that the paint blistered on the front 2 sections of OSF bodywork above the drivers cab area and on the edge of the nose cone, melted the drivers window rubber and side repeater but luckily it was all cosmetic and she survived. The same sadly cannot be said of the South Notts Lowlander (no. 89) that you mentioned, she lost the entire top deck and rear of the lower deck in the fire and was subsequently scrapped along with South Notts Fleetline (117), NCT Renown (370), a Wrights Bedford Plaxton Coach, NCT Atlantean (523) and a couple of others that I forget the exact details of. It's one of the saddest memories of my time spent at the site. I'm so pleased that the current group have managed to make such a success of the place and wish them all the best for the future. 👍
I think maybe the clutch on the starter needs a bit of attention and the excess fuel setting on the pump needs increasing? AECs usually start quickly.
She hasn’t been started for a year or so and was on a booster pack! She’s needs a little bit of ticketing that is all!
Northern Counties?
Yes this is a northern counties body!
@@nottinghamareabussociety4278 Worked for the company for 27yrs until it’s closure in 2005 a very sad day. Nottingham Transport was a regular customer, I remember one the Buses we built had a painting of Nottingham Castle on the back, does this vehicle still exist I expect not
Sadly not! We have this example and ARC 666T as well.
Beautiful day and a lovely relaxing bus journey. Top video
We thank you loads for your kind comment, please do look at our other videos !!
I worked for Northern Counties for 27yrs Nottingham Transport was a regular customer One of the Buses had a painting on the back of a Castle does this Bus still exist?

Yarp. Narp?
In Malaysia also have,Bedford bus at early 80,Bedford SB5, and Bedford TK , economy disel engine
So cool very neat bus looks almost new 👍🕺
Love the sound of these old buses 👍😊
Great old buses buses I have seen before very good to watch 👍🕺
Is there any written history on the origin / progression of routes in Nottingham? The 44/25 now do Gedling and Arnold
I used to drive an AEC Regent Mk3 myself, took it to shows and once took it on a hire, the passengers loved it! I only drive modern coaches nowadays but ride classic motorcycles now
That bus looks like what you’d imagine if someone described a routemaster to you on the phone lol
Is this Leyland 400 powered? It reminds me of the 1983 Leyland Super Vikings when the engine is labouring and I read some Bedfords had this engine option.
Yes engine replaced with a leyland! I cannot find out exactly which one as this is no longer in our collection!
@@nottinghamareabussociety4278 Sounds like a 400 series. Makes a distinctive noise when it begins to accelerate. At first I thought it had a Beddy 500!
Not my favourite vehicles! I always thought them very under-powered which means slow building up the speed and continually working down the box at the 1st sniff of a hill, whereas my AEC Reliance 760 would just stay in 6th most of the time. However, my pet VAL hate was the very light front end.
They all had there difference’s and better routes to be ran on.
Such a fascinating sound at 1½ grand! I hope this bus ends up in a movie depicting the 40s or 50s.
We can only wish !
Those buses were also in Lisboa, Portugal - I remember them in the late 70s and 80s... what fond memories
Yes, they must have taken considerable skill - and muscle - to drive on the challenging Lisboa cityscape! It was great to see one leaving the Carris Museum a while ago. That AEC musical transmission takes some beating - at times maybe a little 'saudade?'
Transport red wheels always a nice finish to a livery 👍
What a fabulous video. I would have ridden on this bus and its classmates many times in the early 70s on my way through Long Eaton and back to school. I always loved the 60 and 63 Regents best of all. The Duple Leylands were nice, but the Northern Counties AECs were the best sounding and looking! The video captures the sound perfectly, exactly as I remember it. Once the single deckers came in increasing numbers the end seemed to come swiftly for these beauties, so it's great to see one in such nice condition and health. I moved away from Long Eaton many years ago but still go back several times a year to visit family. I'd love to ride on this bus again sometime. I can't ever remember being on a Barton bus that broke down, although I do remember one of this group cutting out at every bus stop and having to be restarted. Hope it made it back to Chilwell!
we will have a running day around June/July ish this year covid permitting. 854 is a usual runner so do not be afraid to come down to bag a journey on her! more information can be found on our website and Facebook page! we will also have more buses running including a midland general and NCT also visiting buses as well, Even if you do come down one weekend to the site just approach a member of our team and we will gladly take you around the site. Thanks of watching please do subscribe we will have more content posted shortly.
I remember this bus was based at Bilborough depot in the 1960's
don't be afraid to come and see her in the bus garage at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre!
I'm having On The Busses flashbacks
Why not visit and see these in the flesh ?

Brilliant what a sound that engine makes it's fantastic just love it always have always will good on you keeping them going 👍
That's the plan!
Great Video. Is this a Leyland Engine?
yes it is, this bus is no longer in our collection anymore.
Great video. Showing how double de clutching should be done 👍
I used to live on Leak Road Gotham when I was a kid & remember these buses, our back garden would back onto the bus garage, there ware some old derelict buses that we used to play in... At night while they were shunting the buses the headlights would cast moving shadows on the bedroom wall, my big sister told me it was the bogie man coming to get me & I'd scream blue murder...
A beautiful story I’m so glad I could bring back these memories for you!!
