It seems his death went largely unnoticed in 2022. I think the only book I had from him was Cheap Thrills history of pulps from the early 70’s
@@captainstrangelife I didn’t know he had passed! Sad.
😎 It started for me in 1964 Mark , neither would I call myself a comics historian but rather a comics explorer. I was the geekiest geek because anything / everything comics got my attention ; advertisements , articles , references in films and on TV , etc. The 1970s Nostalgia Craze ( 70-75) is truly the Golden Age for historical information and revival publications. I was fortunate that both my local libraries carried older and current reference and collection books involving comic strips and comic books. My introduction to Goulart was his 1975 reference book " The Adventurous Decade : Comics of the 1930s" ( being a first and foremost comic strip fan I couldn't resist constantly checking out this book from the library). Other Goulart work followed including the two volumes you presented , again library obtained.
Should've asked me what a fathom was...it's 6 feet. Just looked it up last weekend

Great books from your PC. Thanks for the tag. I certainly have some low grades.
@@BrianLCS Can’t wait to see them.
I always dug Herb Trimpe! Had his own take on the Kirby dynamic, in a same but different way as Jim Steranko, I think. Trimpe also did some design work on that Colgate toothpaste commercial that used to run in the 70s or early 80s. The "We make holes in teeth" one. Ha
Had to look that up. It was actually Crest, not Colgate. If you search Trimpe Cavity Creeps on UA-cam you'll find it. Pretty darn funny
@@stephenbifani7798 I'm familiar. Those commercials are GOLD. You might find this cool: ua-cam.com/video/lf4lhphKNpE/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@fourcolorcommentary2909 Wow! You certainly are most familiar with the Crest commercial! Very cool. Now my wife has watched it twice today too. Ha. Also, I am a big Geoff Darrow fan as well. Check out Shaolin Cowboy if you haven’t yet. Great stuff. Cheers!
Great story. It was published 1985 here in Finland.
TV Stars with Alex Toth
Cool idea Mark. Most of my comics are less than mint so this shouldn’t be a problem. That TV Stars and Lorna Doone are new to me. Thanks for the tag.👍
Great episode
@@comicsfan1973 Thanks!
Hey Mark! I always love seeing the outfacing books on your shelf. They’re like little Easter Eggs, or subliminal suggestions! How do you choose what you decide to profile back there?
@@RobertAEmmonsJr Honestly, I just pick a pair and place them. They’re all great reads - either comics history or classic stories - so it’s a no-lose situation for viewers who are looking for good reads. Thanks for noticing, though. I’m always hoping to kindle some interest in works some fans have never seen.
Fabulous Marvel game Mark. I’d play that over and over if I was a kid.😁
Oh, yeah!
Great box art
Yeah, I LOVE the box!
Love this one, Mark. I’m a big tabletop game player. I play every Sunday with friends. Tabletop games have come a long way, but it’s great to see the old ones. I’m not familiar with this one and don’t recall playing in the 80s, but boy would I have loved to! Thanks for sharing!
@@RobertAEmmonsJr My pleasure, Rob!
I think you're right in that Spider-man image is Romita Sr., but from when he first started on Spidey and was still going for the Ditko vibe? Not 100% certain though. Cheers!
@@stephenbifani7798 I believe you’re spot on. Definitely has a Ditko “feel”.
@@fourcolorcommentary2909 It does indeed! Really enjoying the channel, by the way. Glad to have found it!
@@stephenbifani7798 Glad you’re here.
What does the winner’s circle say about the talent? What books do they plug?
Plastic Man
Still have that issue of Adventure , Mark. Short run Starman like First Issue Special #12 and the one after Levitz and Ditko until Robinsons version. In Robinson's version the L & D Starman 's absence was a result of his being a prisoner of an alien being. DC did have most of the Filipino artists ; I'm thinking Marvel may have had one or two , Gold Key had the great Jesse Santos who often worked with writer Don Glut ; I met both of them at a local con. Enjoyable experience. Sorry for not getting involved with the Atlas / Seaboard episodes ; seen them around in real time but never got any , seen other shows presenting them but still really had no interest in them. At the same time that the Filipino Wave came along Warren and Charlton had the Spanish Wave of artists ; Charlton's Romance line is where most of the Spanish artists appeared , some horror titles as well.
@@anthonyperdue3557 Robinson’s Starman (Jack Knight) is my fave!
@@fourcolorcommentary2909 Many a GA fan agrees with you Mark. The inclusion of both familiar and little known GA characters added to the development of the stories. Unless Robinson changes his mind about Jack Knight being loaned out to other creators , we may never see Jack appear in any DC TV or film project.
@@anthonyperdue3557 That’s a shame. I wasn’t even aware that Robinson had that kind of stroke where the character is concerned.
Wow those inks really are cool over Ditko! Never heard of that inker. Also never knew there was a Lou Fine comics book. Gonna have to find that. Cheers!
@@stephenbifani7798 That Lou Fine book is a collection of a bunch of Golden Age stories in black and white.
@@fourcolorcommentary2909 Cool. Thanks!
@@stephenbifani7798 Have a copy of it too , really enjoyable. Lou Fine did two comic strips in the early 60s : Adam Ames ; a widower artist relocated to a small town and what I consider an overlooked gem by Lou : Peter Scratch , a private eye adventure. Peter Scratch was part of a rotating lineup of strips in The Menomonee Falls Gazette , a comic strip tabloid of the 1970s. Mycomicshop has back issues of the Gazette if you decide you might like to check out Lou's newspaper work.
@@anthonyperdue3557 Good to know! Thanks!!
When I heard that Dinosaur Revolution is an homage to the comic, Age of Reptiles, I remembered watching a video of a fan comic styled video that inspired by the final battle of Stumpy and Jack Palance

Perez and a Kirby cover! I wonder if there’s any heroes or characters from Oklahoma, in Marvel or DC. And Sinott! Tasty
@@sleepyreader666 Just an all-round fun book!
I read this when it came out. It was huge fun (and hugely ridiculous). My friend really loved the Texas Twister and I thought Captain Ultra's over the top look was cool. (I saw them a couple of times later but I don't know that they ever made a real effort with either. I also liked seeing Thundra and of course alternate universe Reed Richards.
@@BitingComics Yes! I always liked the Brute.
Thanks for the series on Atlas. I have most of their output also. I've never understood why they're not worth more with the talent they had writing and drawing these comics. I've always collected for myself and not the possible profit to be had. Nice to see someone else is into the fun to be had and not the future worth. Thanks again!
@@GfanAlaska My pleasure! Sometimes, there’s just no accounting for what becomes “hot” in the hobby, that’s for sure. The quality on these books is quite high, but few seem to know or care.
Well done

Another great video in your Atlas series. Haven’t read this one yet. While most of the 4 color Atlas books made it to spinner racks in Connecticut at the time, i never saw any sign of their b & w mags.

2 See both of these characters get more stories would be cool, because I heard that Iron-Jaw was great felt like its own thing, and that's good because many that try to make a "Sword&Sorcery" title make a Conan book with a different name, and or it isn't a great product...
