It was the third day of our 2016 mule deer hunt when it started snowing up in the mountains of the Shoshone National Forest in Dubois, Wyoming. By noon it has snowed three to five inches at elevation. We decided to break camp because there was snow in the forecast for the rest of the week. This is some video of the trip down from the mountain. You can see in the video, as we get lower in elevat...

    The only way you are going to test the accuracy of the Lee scale is to have an expensive digital scale that can accurately weigh to 1/100th of a grain, and then do at least 10 cartridges.

    My Lee scale and scoops and drum measure are all conflicting. Not sure which is accurate?

    • @jaym8027
      @jaym8027 2 роки тому

      I would trust the scale. That is the only one of the three that you mention that measures mass. The scoops and drum hold a specific volume, the mass of which can vary due to many factors. A grain is a unit of mass, equal to 1/7000 of a pound. (I know pounds are units of weight, not mass, but I'm assuming earth gravitation here) All load data with which I'm familiar is given in grains of powder.

  • @vanman724

    Not sure why that's an accuracy test to use another scale to measure the mass. The digital scale could be off. I think a good quality calibration weight would be a better test--for both scales.

  • @kentjohnson5544
    @kentjohnson5544 5 років тому

    I have Lee and RCBS. Some of the RCBS products are handier to use but I don't think more accurate. Not just the powder scales but all Lee stuff gets the job done at a reasonable cost. There is better stuff out there but it is much more expensive than either Lee or RCBS and unless you are wanting world class accuracy either Lee of RCBS is plenty good enough. For the money spent, Lee is hard to beat.

    Thinking of getting this same format and caliber. I already own Remington 700 BDL in the sporter barrel transferred to a Houge stock for several years and enjoy. It's good for hunting, but the groupings is not there as my other rifles. How's accuracy at what range with yours? Deciding on a Scope first after i see some test rifle capabilities. Already checked local prices though no-one has one in stock. Waiting to pull the trigger after i free some space.

    • @jonathansmith5189

      +EmmettPerkins This rifle groups great!! I have gotten half MOA with Berger bullets and IMR 4350. The farthest I have shot it is about 400 yards. Nine shot group I could cover with one hand. The scope has great glass for the price. Less than $300 on Samplelist.com I just got back from a mule deer hunt in Wyoming. I used this rifle to get a fork buck. 143 yards free standing. I have to admit, this rifle was a bit of a bear to haul around the mountains. Rifle, base, rings and scope: weighs about twelve pounds. The weight wasn't the problem as much as the length of the damn thing. This rifle must be four feet long. I kept banging it into everything. I got mine from Budsguns. I had it delivered to an FFL that lives down the road from my house. Check GalleryofGuns also. I know they have a couple on there also.

    • @emmettperkins844

      I've pulled the trigger. I ordered and received a Howa 1500 25 06 with the Houge stock. This one appears and feel like my SPS 223. My R700 which has the longer barrel length, this length is more like a varmint rifle. I have a wide variation of weights and brands, i'm going to work up some different loads. I'll be sure to let you what i get. Thanks .

    That was the best whitetail nature video I've see yet. It's obvious the mom was playing along with the little ones. It almost makes me feel bad about the mother deer I've shot in front of their offspring (which is only one) or the young deer I've shot with their mother. That was nature also. I'm more carful now but a hard winter does not care or a predator like a coyote or wolf.
