APBA Football Club
United States
Приєднався 6 тра 2021
I am Geoff Giordano, creator of the original APBA Football Club, launched on Facebook Jan. 28, 2011. First to bring APBA Football out of the forums and onto contemporary social media. Created the first-ever cards-and-dice #tabletopsports tournaments at the football and baseball halls of fame. Proud advocate for all things #APBAFootball while supporting all other games and gamers in this ever-growing world of #boardgames.
Vince Lombardi's last title | What made the 1967 #Packers great? A #tabletop game design challenge
The 1967 Packers were the last of Vince Lombardi’s five (nearly six) Green Bay championship teams of the 1960s. Aging and without some legendary names of their recent past, the Packers relied on football IQ and the legendary Lombardi discipline to win Super Bowl 2 with a 9-4-1 record.
With 10 of their 22 starters age 30 or older, the Packers of 1967 knew how to win and played their best when it counted most. Opening the season slowly with a tie against Detroit, the Packers kept finding ways to win despite Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr sitting out Weeks 4 and 5; backup Zeke Bratkowski performed admirably to keep the Packer train rolling.
While the Ice Bowl remains the most iconic moment of the ’67 Packers’ lore, their two games against the 11-1-2 Los Angeles Rams illustrate how Lombardi’s men exerted their will to win in the clutch. In Week 13, with the Rams fighting the Colts to win the newly established Coastal division, L.A. won a thrilling come-from-behind battle at home against Green Bay, 27-24. Two weeks later, back in chilly Wisconsin, the Rams - having beaten Baltimore in Week 14 to claim their division - fell 28-7 to the dialed-in Packers.
This “design challenge” series comparies the classic statistics-based game of APBA Football (first released in 1958) and the more recent, somewhat Euro-style Breakaway Football.
Breakaway Football creator Arthur Franz IV captures the Packers’ late-game prowess with mechanisms like The Big Push. Meanwhile, Geoff Giordano of the APBA Football Club (established 2011) creates a pair of team/player characteristic cards to add the flavor of the ’67 Packers to the stats-driven game mechanics, without skewing the highly accurate APBA formula.

The 1992 Oilers: What made them great (and not so great)? How APBA and Breakaway capture their magic
Переглядів 26221 день тому
The 1992 Houston Oilers capped their 10-6 season in infamy, falling to the Buffalo Bills in The Comeback. Arthur Franz IV captures the agony and ecstasy of this compelling squad with the Man in Motion and Here We Go Again mechanisms for his game Breakaway Football. To bring some of that flavor to #APBAFootball, we echoed Breakaway’s feel with two of our own limited-use custom cards: THE FAB FOU...

In this series debut, I and Breakaway Football creator Arthur Franz IV dissect the unique characteristics that made the 1976 Raiders a breed apart. After nearly 10 years of postseason disappointment, the 1976 Oakland Raiders powered to a 13-1 record and the first Super Bowl ring in franchise history. This cast of unforgettable characters, led by legendary coach John Madden, suffered their only ...

The '67 Packers were not great. They were probably Lombardi's weakest championship team . Lombardy claimed that his '63 team that lost the division to tbe Bears by 1/2 gane was his best team (debateable). The '67 team lost to the Steelers and Vikings who were very weak teams at the time.
Jerry Kramer's block We can wedge Pughe The footing was to slippery so Starr kept the ball
Virgil Carter I think
NFL 60's football when they threw the ball they went downfield for big gains
Is That the game where the Rams blocked a punt to help them defeat the packers
Packers had many injuries in 1967 yet overcame them
"Do you even Honus Wagner?"😅
The Rare Plays chart would solve the problem of William Perry getting his carries for the 85 Chicago Bear season.
I have not played them all, but I've played quite a few, and this one is by far the most complete card and dice football game that I've played. I love the research and work that S.T. puts into creating the college teams. I hope that at some point, he will offer some Pro teams as well.
That's neat, S.T. I still like the "Statis Pro Football" method too that involves season replay effects such as players recreating their specific moments during a year....like the play where awesome Keith Byars literally runs out of a shoe while racing 69 yards to a touchdown. I'll try to research your "Match Football" more by and by, Thanks for sharing....this discussion is neat.
We need an update
Grew up playing paydirt/bowl bound...such great memories, Rons work with DDF is tremendous, so happy he has carried on, and improved this games great legacy!
I am the "Professor" and really enjoyed the interview. There was an edit that I always wanted to clarify though. I compare my game to APBA & Strat and state that they are flawed, but it was cut around the 9 minute mark. The flaw is that there is no batter/pitcher confrontation. In my game pitchers pitch and then the batter bats--2 distinct actions--like real baseball. APBA & Strat only have 1 action. Thanks again.
I would have used more nickel for Detroit In passing situations
Awesome breakdown Geoff!! Merry Christmas to you and your family
The stupidity of Oilers coaching not adapting to the large lead against the Bills to run clock allowed Buffalo the opportunity to comeback and win. Hope all is well Merry Christmas Happy Holidays Happy New Year
Great
Bring back APBA bowling!!
stratomatic greatest game ever created. love it with a passion. better than the real game itself
Nobody expected FOREMAN-FRAZIER 2 , to end like this loll , sometimes it can happen between too greats
1976 was the year they HAD to win. Pittsburgh was there and had Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier been able to play in the AFC title game, maybe the Raiders don’t win. Madden needed to win that year, and he did. 👍
This Raiders had one of the GREATEST O-Lines of all time.
Shell and Upshaw are pretty much going to be 5's more often than not for sure.
The 1976 Oakland Raiders are one of the greatest teams I ever watched. They are one of those teams that you compare other champions against, and in most cases, can’t argue against 76.
Happy Thanksgiving Geoff!!! I’m still on a high from the Gridiron games.
Awesome! Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm 61, back when I was a kid I would write to each team (football and Baseball) and ask for s press guide. 90% they would send them sometimes with team photos as a bonus.
Killer Job on this!!!! So thrilling to watch and no long pauses like in the NFL on TV, LOL. I have one question though that I get confused on with APBA football - On Kickoffs Def Kicks and Off Receives but on the return who is Def and who is on offense??? Same on punts - I know Off Kicks and Def Receives but on the return does it switch where the return team beocmes the offense and the coverage team becomes defense? Any help would be appreciated !!!
I have enough stress at work and can't handle more to learn something new.
I worked with him in San Diego. He pissed of Tom Landry with that td run
Does anyone know the dice tower that Grant mentioned at the 38 minute mark?
Somebody should hold an APBA Basketball convention at the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Have thought of that and reached out to them as well as the hockey Hall of Fame. The ladder has an ideal room. Stay tuned…! Would want to spread that one around to other platforms for sure ; )
Nice video! Also, to answer your question...my best friend in middle/high school came home one day with Statis Pro Football (1986 season cards) and we had hundreds of hours of fun with that. We played a sim season with 20 teams and 10 weeks plus playoffs. The Bears won the title. We also bought the 1987 season cards and loved that.
Good job with the convention
Next year I would like to do both Cooperstown and Canton
Beyond impressed with this introduction , if only all interviews/videos could have such a expert dossier of info in a quick fluid speech.
Thank you; we try. Sometimes we nail it, sometimes you can just play us on 1.5x or 2.0x!
Didn’t even attend and I enjoyed the event. Maybe one year I can get to one of these or the baseball one in Cooperstown. Glad it went well. Thanks for doing this!
And don’t forget the regional tournaments! Are there any near you?
@@apbafootballclub411yes. I’m in Nashville and already signed up for the Chattanooga one and have told the ones organizing the Nashville tournament that I’m willing to volunteer to help with anything they need.
How 'bout the individual and team statistics?
I will aim to add those up! Think I captured them all on the yellow paper.
Thanks again Geoff!! Thanks for being an amazing host!
Thanks Geoff!!!
Great as always Geoff!
Such a great weekend. Playing games is always fun. But talking with all the people was the number one highlight!! Thanks again Geoff. See you next year
One of your best videos. You can just get lost in all of the great resources out there. Enjoyed this tremendously.
Just listened on the ride home. Nice job.
This is so cool. I can tell by the excitement in your voice that this was a great event. I need to try to get there next year. Thanks for all you do for our hobby.
Geoff, what an amazing time!!! You are the MVP host. Thanks for getting this together. Can’t wait till next year
Great meeting you in person finally! Save the date for 2025 for sure!
Looks like a great time by all!!!!! One day I hope to participate
As a hobby gamer and casual designer who primarily enjoys hex and counter wargames, I think a big one is that most people think that the only board games that exist are terribly designed/kids games like Monopoly and Candy land and will never experience well-designed, fast-playing, or intricate games with meaningful decisions that aren't just luck-based die throwers because of the popular perception and thus would rather just play video games (I did too until discovering the hobby proper!).
Awesome
Bring back the racing game APBA. Geeat Game !
Great video thanks for posting. What is FTF I didn’t catch that?
Face to face.
