Sri Lanka, missing out on a citizen like you? how sad its Sri Lankas loss! Maybe you should start your Own Country and Implement your Own Rules or I Guess You Should Address your Issue of Citizenship with the relevant Sri Lankan government institutions. To my knowledge, all the countries in the World Have their Set of Procedures when Offering Citizenship. Do you think just because someone is born in the UK where u are living now UK government will Offer you Citizenship? you are mistaken ... Sri Lanka is a Proud Nation and because you did not receive citizenship we should not be Ashamed - What have you done to Sri Lanka for Sri Lanka to offer Citizenship ????

@@srilankasmallwonder When I was born in 1952, if you were born in the UK, you were a citizen. My father was the manager of the Elston Estates Rubber plantation at Puwakpitya from before the war until the mid 50s, post independence. He was an officer in the Ceylon Planters Rifle Corps. He employed Tamils and Sinhalese and served Ceylon's industry. It is not about the baby I was, "deserving" citizenship. It is about _his_ service to Ceylon being unrecognised and rewarded with his sons being allowed citizenship. As for me, I have a first class honours degree and Ph.D. in computing and a long successful career. I would not have ashamed my birth country. No, Sri Lanka owes me nothing, because I was not given the opportunity to be its citizen and perhaps contribute. However my point remains that I understand the citizenship laws were drawn up to exclude the Tamils born in Ceylon. I suspect all other nationalities got caught up in the rules and Ceylon bore them no ill will. I love the country of my birth and have been back to visit. Perhaps I was too strong in my previous language and aplogise and withdraw the comment about being ashamed.

Your Concerns are well Noted. if you were born in 1951 then Ceylon would have been in a Dominion Status of the UK and the laws governed by the UK. Only in 1972 did Sri Lanka receive Full Independence and had control over its Nation and Law. Your parents should have attended to your Sri Lankan citizenship in 1951 or the 1970s. - What we can't agree with is your accusation of Sri Lanka for not offering Citizenship to you as you are Tamil. this is a very negative picture you are trying to create about Sri Lanka labeling it and creating racial hatred.

@@srilankasmallwonder Please do not use the racism card; we get enough of that in the UK. I have no dislike of any of the Sri Lankan people. I am simply looking at history, as I was affected as well by the controversial Ceylon Citizenship Bill. Read about it on Wikipedia. Here is a quote from it: "Shortly after independence on 4 February 1948 the new Sinhalese dominated government of Ceylon introduced the Ceylon Citizenship Bill before Parliament. The outward purpose of the Bill was to provide means of obtaining citizenship, *but its real purpose was to discriminate against the Indian Tamils by denying them citizenship*.[1] The Bill stipulated that anyone wishing to obtain citizenship had to prove that their father was born in Ceylon i.e. that they were at least third generation immigrants. This was an impossible task for most Indian Tamils. Few were at least third generation immigrants because they tended to return to India to give birth.[1] Those who were at least third-generation immigrants rarely had the necessary documents because they rarely registered births.[1] Therefore, they could not prove the requirements for citizenship. " (Why do you say I am a Tamil? My parents were UK citizens from Scotland with a long ancestry there which my genes prove! My ancestors were Vikings and Picts and Celts.)
