On Friday of Bumps W2 didn't have the river to watch Corpus before they caught the free-falling Darwin. Up two and a row over left W2 with a final day to catch Darwin for a total of up 3 over the week. Blades not possible, but lots to play for when the sun came out for the W2 division.

I was talking to Joy Baker, wife of CBC's legendary Boatman Tony, after the May Bumps. She told me that she'd never seen the start of bumps races, only the middle, and occasionally the end. So, for Joy - here's all the starts from CBC Mays campaign 2024 (that I managed to capture on video).

Yesterday we made amends for being bumped by LMBC on Wednesday. Now we need to finish the job. Can we catch Jesus to take the headship they took from us on the last day of Mays 2023? We may have been bumped down from the headship on Wednesday, but we're not out of the fight. We were inside station yesterday, and we have another 2 days to catch LMBC. Thanks to Inego for bank partying and capturing the footage. No thanks to the GoPro batteries for dying in the cold weather

Having missed the bump on 'Binson on day 1, the Brusses have had a tough couple of days, dropping out of Div 1. Today, can they hold off Tit Hall and set up the opportunity to catch a free-falling F&T tomorrow and head back to Div 1 as sandwich boat? Sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes you're the nail. Sometimes you're both.

Having started 2nd on the river, W1 rowed over on day 2 getting to about half a length on LMBC. With a new plan - go hard round the corners - they had another swing at Maggie, and potentially the headship. May bumps serves up more excitement, and carnage.

How do town bumps work?
Same way as College Bumps. Crews start 1.5 lengths apart and chase each other up the cam. When a boat bumps the boat in front, both boats pull into the bank. If boat 4 catches boat 3 before boat 3 catches boat 2, the next day boats 4 and 3 swap places at the start. 4 days racing in total. Boats that go up 4 get blades, down 4 get spoons, the top prize is head of the river, top of Div1.

They were bumped by Magdelene, unfortunately. I didn't get any footage as I was with M2, sandwich boat.
Completely unnecessary carnage from Maggie cox and/or bank party despite the Caius bank party pointing out the obvious, that if both crews had stayed where they bumped then the following crews could have passed. To CUCBC, if you are listening, this is a "what not to do" video for next time. Thank you Churchill for stopping as instructed.
