On this episode of Mountaineer Report, Mike Asti and Cody Nespor try to make some sense of that miserable performance and discuss what options Darian DeVries has to make sure something like that doesn't happen again. How refreshing it is to watch/listen to a real coach allow a member of the media to FINISH his question before he answers? Glad we have you Coach DeVries!
The press is as pathetic as he is. Could the just ask at least 1 question that isn't a softball.
GET YOUR PHONEY INTERNET MINDS UP YOUR PITT AND GET REAL!
IF THE FANS WANT CHANGE....SIT AT HOME....LET THEM PLAY IN FRONT OF AN EMPTY STADIUM....SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!
That is the best thing fans can do to force change.
Congrats to the #15 WVU Lady Mountaineers for its 28-point victory in this season's Backyard Brawl. WVU/Big XII fans are proud of you.
No ESPN, FOX or network TV! But the WVU at Pitt will be televised on the ACC Network at 8 pm from the Peterson Event Center a/k/a The Zoo in Oakland. Pitt is favored by oddsmakers -7.5 and both teams are undefeated.
The #15 WVU Lady Mountaineers won this season's Backyard Brawl over the Pitt Panthers by 28 points on Tuesday night. It's time for the men's team to step up Friday night and ditto that.
The reason Nicco rolls to the right because that’s the playbook. With him. Being left handed and is better rolling to the left. Playbook needs to be flipped
What does the HC stand for? Did Nico get a new title? I think your title to this video needs to be updated.
A true testimate to Great parents raising a humble young man.
Thank you, he has made it easy. Grateful to God for him. #12momma
I mean if West Virginia can't win the Big12 then who would you want to see win it? BYU is my pick!
As crazy & competative as it is in the Bi12 there are surely more surprises. IF we can win out, anything is possible and that is why this is the most enjoyable conference to watch week in and week out. Never give up!
2025 New Year Resolution: - Nick Saban becomes the new WVU president replacing Gee - Saban fires Baker and replaces him with Bob Huggins as new AD - Huggins fires brown and replaces him with Curt Cignett as the new HC
I think the team, look like a team. Defense looked good. Pleasantly surprised They stopped RMU from swinging the back door, unlike every WVU team few years. The entire team can shoot , I can't say that about any sense Beilein's. I'm excited for this season, this team should be able to compete.
How can WVU get 8 out of the 12 games scheduled at home every year like Ohio State does ?
Make WVU Football Great Again!!!!
Hey, old man Greg! They talk about women. Jeez, damn dude! Old as hell.
Wouldnt you love to hear one of these guys say, "Hey, we got guys open and the QB needs to find them and throw an accurate ball! Lets go"! Yeah, I know, they wont, cant.
Hey dude, we love you taking up for your guys but you know when Nicco is in there your chances are better of getting targeted.
We comin.' Get out the way.
Fire Neal brown.
The whole stadium should boo the life out of Neil when he comes on the field at home. Enough is enough.
Cover 2 Man, Man to Man with Deep High Safety and pressure Bump and Run. If you get beat deep doing that then so be it
D isn't going to change much at all, might see a little more press against the wideouts but other than that the same old thing. I don't see how it's high pressure for anyone. Neal bought himself at least another year. You calmed the fires with a dose of water by canning Jordan. I truly believe Wren is going to let Neal serve out his contract and that's how WVU is gonna cut ties with Neal. But it's just not the D that has been bad this year. Look at what the O has done against Ds that are average or above 12, 14, and 18 points. My opinion is you start Nicco the rest of the year and see what you’re going to get. Look at what you are going to lose at the end of the year and what comes back next year minus unknown transfers. The line which was touted as one if not the best in the Big 12 if not the country is not going to be the same, your wideouts and backs come back barring any transfers but again CJ and White have lived up to their billing this year. The team is in shambles if you believe last year was an okay year for the Big 12 and believe WVU was that good, or the team is what it is, the Big 12 is a better Conference than last year and this will be the best you’re going to see from WVU under Neal. Bro’d it out and hugged had me crying laughing but upset at the same time. You take a look at your great coaches and regardless of the way they feel about a person if things weren't going to play they axed them. I don’t think it's a conspiracy that Wren talked to Neal, now Wren may have not used those exact words but I'd put money on it. I think Wren might have said something along the lines of if something doesn't change everything will. Lets not forget that Gee is a lame duck so to speak and that if things don't start turning, Wren’s head could be on the chopping block as well when a new President is announced.
Major conference portal draws from where? Northwestern lol come on man!
@@lukebart920 For one, Northwestern was a solid team last year. They also added Bray from Oklahoma State, Justin Robinson from Mississippi State and Reid Carrico from Ohio State. The year before they brought in Beanie and Kole Taylor from LSU. That’s just some of them. Nice try though. Acting like they brought in no one from P4s in portal is just literally false. - Asti
@WVSportsNow what kind of numbers did they have tho? If that's what we're calling a good portal get. That might just be our problem. We need already proven guys out of the portal. Not guys with 300 yards and a big frame.
@WVSportsNow and the last 2 were back ups at their previous stops! Beanie is the only great portal get. The sad part is I hope we win out and I'll be at every game, but I hope next year we can get more proven guys. Luke
@ There are only a handful programs getting guys like that. Most of the transfers are not like that. There are literally programs ranked right now who got less P4 transfers and have done worse in portal. - Asti
And even beanie was a diamond in the ruff he barely played at his previous school. The problem is their getting guys they think can work out instead of guys they know can for sure get the job done and have at previous
If he comes back in 25, I won't be there
Too little too late
Listen, I hate that a man lost his job. I like Jordan but this is a WIN business and the secondary was consistently bad every week. He might not be the only one that needs to go on that side, we'll see. Hey, he won't have to shop at the DG, he'll be ok.
The Dallas Cowboys are stupid to keep Dak Prescott as the starting QB. He is nothing but a interception machine. Jerry Jones is the man who ruined the Dallas Cowboys. I refuse to watch them as long as Dak Prescott is the starting QB. He sucks!!!
Just come on over to the Ravens son, glad to have ya. Over here, we beat the hell out of good teams all year then act like we've never played a game come January.
An over paid millionare lost his job!!! Lesley will not be suffering. Lets hope Wren Baker finds an excellent replacement.
Assistants aren’t millionaires. He was paid handsomely, but it’s high six figures.
Funb
Hey Neal.......................garrette dont make the throws when he's healthy......shhĥhhh everybody be quiet so we don't seem mad and dumb..........shhhhhh.
We EXPECT special teams to be good, till they aint. Offense was good, lets stick with the QB that throws for 200, doesnt throw picks or miss wide open receivers. Yeah, I know, we'll miss that extra 60 yards rushing. Hey Jordan, how bout man up on those wideouts so our D line can get a half second on the rush! Whats the worst that can happen? Oh yeah, same thing that happens every week. Nice job Mike, everything I said is the damn truth, dont be afraid to comment.
Hahahaha clown brown loves talking about how good his special teams are.😂 “special teams was sooo good vs pitt” you lost to them again SHUT UP
Fire Neal Brown
“Nicco probably would have lost to Iowa state” I disagree bc you cannot predict that. The defense held Iowa state to 14 going into the 4th. Nicco is obviously the smarter QB it’s not even close It’s not fair to say that about Nicco bc he’s undefeated in every game he’s started (all P5) If you want to say it’s games we should win, then I can point out a ton of games GG LOST that he should have won….Houston being one that comes to mind and that was on him bc of yet another poor decision 🤷♂️
Preach brother not many is! Also Don’t forget when Nicco come in for Greene. The play Greene got hurt was right before halftime and they kick a fg its 17-13 but they went for it and failed on 4th down and it was 17-10. The final was 45-18. Who led the team better?
@ and 10 of those 1st half KS pts resulted from Greene TO’s…the failed 4th down conversion he threw it at the feet of wide open Taylor which would have been a TD…,eerily reminiscent of the play against Penn st
The front 7 D is solid. There needs to be a major change in the secondary coaching They should have never got rid of Vic….wherever made that decision deserves to be fired
NB made the decision.
@@michaelmartin5869 I like it!
Let’s not discount poise at QB being a major factor in this..,,Nicco has it and Greene does not. He is what he is a 1 read then run type of guy that’s terrible at handling adversity Also worth noting Nicco is undefeated (all P5 teams) when he starts 🤷♂️
I wrote about Nicco being composed in stories on the site if not said in here. - Asti
I would love to know why our secondary is this bad. In this game we had 3 or four defenders around Arizona's 6-5 receiver and not one of our guys even attempted to make a play on the ball. They just let him catch it uncontested and then attempt to tackle. It's mind numbingly rediculous. I remember several games ago, Jordan saying that this was easily correctable. We'll then why hasn't that happened? I know we've had some injuries, but let's face it, this kind of play was happening then too. I fully expect Brown to ride with Greene, even at his own peril. These coaches are so stubborn even when it's crystal clear that Nicco is just a winner. This win was a win but it wasn't encouraging after seeing how Arizona just passed at will on us to almost come back. Luckily for us time ran out.
@@erics6883 the front 7 are performing great…looks like to me they need coaching changes in the secondary
In a game that highlighted the shortcomings of both teams, West Virginia narrowly defeated Arizona, 31-26, but the win did little to reassure Mountaineer fans about the state of the program. The stats and the final score reflect a matchup of two teams that struggled to find consistency, ultimately making the contest feel more like a coin flip than a display of skill. West Virginia took an early lead, putting up 10 points in the first quarter while holding Arizona scoreless. By halftime, they led 17-7, showing a promising start on both sides of the ball. However, in what has become a hallmark of Neal Brown’s coaching, WVU’s strategy took a familiar turn toward the conservative, as the offense shifted to clock management rather than pressing for a decisive blow. The third quarter saw WVU add 7 more points, but Arizona also managed a touchdown, keeping the Wildcats within reach at 24-13. Arizona capitalized on WVU’s lack of halftime adjustments, rallying in the fourth quarter and outscoring the Mountaineers 13-7. While West Virginia scored once more, Arizona found the end zone twice, nearly closing the gap and making it a 31-26 game. Once again, Brown’s ultra-conservative second-half approach nearly cost WVU the win, relying on an early lead instead of closing the game with aggressive, decisive play-calling. The team stats reveal just how close this game truly was. West Virginia accumulated 405 total yards to Arizona’s 386, with WVU dominating on the ground (207 rushing yards) while Arizona led in the air with 308 passing yards. Despite holding the ball for over 35 minutes, WVU couldn’t use that possession advantage to pull away. Arizona even gained more first downs than WVU (18 to 16) and converted 6 out of 12 third downs, staying competitive despite a first-half fumble that cost them critical points. In the end, Arizona’s mistakes were WVU’s saving grace. Without that first-half fumble and a few other errors, Arizona could easily have claimed the victory. As it was, this close game underscored the struggle of two teams who are currently bottom-tier Big 12 programs. An average or good team would have dominated Arizona, but WVU barely escaped, showing that they have a long way to go before reaching even an average Big 12 standard. Neal Brown’s coaching continues to raise questions. Game after game, WVU comes out strong with creative play-calling, only to pull back the moment they gain a lead. The lack of second-half adjustments and a relentless shift to conservative play once WVU is ahead have become predictable patterns that other teams can exploit. It’s a script that never changes, and it’s one that keeps WVU struggling for wins in games that a more well-rounded team would control. Ultimately, this win doesn’t inspire confidence. Both WVU and Arizona looked like teams fighting for the bottom of the Big 12, and while WVU came out on top, it was less an impressive victory and more a showcase of Arizona’s errors. To even be considered an average Big 12 team, WVU has to improve in all aspects, particularly in second-half strategy and adaptability. Until then, they’ll continue to scrape by in close games, struggling to compete against stronger teams in the conference.

@@timboWVU they beat a team 2000 miles away from home with 3 of 4 captains out with injury one being the starting qb and won handily until it got somewhat interesting at the end. Arizona isn’t some scrub they have a wide receiver going in the first round next year and we beat them with a true sophomore back up QB. Not many teams can win with a true sophomore back up qb and an NFL caliber tackle and db also captains out. Wouldn’t you agree?
@@timboWVU btw 3-2 in the big 12 and no more teams with a number and undefeated to play so they have a real shot to win out. Combined record to teams we lost to. 28-1 the 1 being 8-0 #9 BYU. That’s not we stink metrics
You just had to pop my balloon. Yeah, start a guy who was knocked out of a game and sat for the next. While the backup goes on the road and gets a W (against a bad Zona D) I get that. However, this coaching staffs been abysmal at evaluating their QB situation the last 6 years. I hope GG comes back strong, but I bet he doesnt and HCNB, well never mind, and you know the rest..
GG is not a QB period. Teams have his number
3:04 if you win 8 games you’re winning the games you should. Period. People want to act like they should be playoff teams or stink
Also 8 wins must be a lot of lesser teams as wvu plays 11 power five opponents every year. Who else does that? The list can be counted on one hand
Hey Asti, you just keep asking Neal those "mean" questions! Lol! He led two 90yd drives at the end of the half! Yeah! And he threw an easy 8 yard pass to a wide open TE in the dirt on 4th down! Plus you said, shoulda scored on 2nd and 3rd down, Neal! That score woulda tied the game and had a huge swing in momentum!
If Neal would just wear a red nose....
U of A was overrated in preseason polls and is definitely beatable with a right game plan. Let's see how NB does Saturday evening as the temps cool down in Tuscon.
Doesn't change my opinion of needing to move on from NB but tbh i kinda respect him being a little snippy here. Shows some emotion we have never really seen. Specifically sticking up for GG. The only true blemish was GGs 2nd pic, beyond that hes the reason we still had a shot in the 1st half.
Yeah, I think that was a good moment for Brown and why players love him. But Greene has 8 interceptions and the opponents have scored on almost all of them. That is a major problem. Iowa State scored 14 points off of Greene picks for example. He's just not playing smart enough. - Asti
Big XII coaches released their preseason rankings along with 1st team, 2nd team and Honorable Mention players in the Big XII. I was disappointed that WVU was chosen #12 or #13. I was more disappointed, however, that neither Tucker or Javon were among players receiving preseason commendations. It's time to show on the court that those Big XII coaches were wrong.
Neal Brown should have been FIRED two years ago!
I refuse to watch anymore WVU football games because of this man. Neal Brown is not a college football coach at all. He and his crew are high school level at best. They need to go. Go get the coach from Indiana and his staff. Look at the succes they are having. Already better than Neal Brown in their first year. It shows you WVU did not go after the best. WVU looked in the bottom of the bargain bin and Neal was the only one laying there knapping like he does during the games. FIRE NEAL BROWN NOW!!!!
HC Cignetti was a former QB at WVU for two years around 1979 when his dad was HC here. He did a remarkable job at James Madison U and was likely available last year for WVU, but we were not shopping at the time due to Brown buyout and getting off the hot seat with 9 wins. Cignetti's success at IU is amazing and I doubt the Hoosiers let him leave the BIG Conference anytime soon. Regardless, Cignetti's success at IU shows how the right HC and staff can turnaround a football program in a relatively short period of time.
I like Neal Brown , I just don't like the play of his teams... to many mistakes and masques and not enough execution on the field... its not personal. I'm tired of K-State coming in to our home and ripping our QB's head off Clint Trickett and now Greene ... not one person kicked out of the game... why we didn't take a shot at there pretty boy QB is beyond me...
We have no pass rush. Been a problem all year.
probably need a break from playing at home.WTF!!!!
