SQlab Innerbarends , ergonomic flat grips for multiple safe hand positions
These grips are certainly one of the things I recommend most for bicycle touring and bikepacking, or any long distance riding on flat bars.
An excellent solution as an alternative to multi-grip handlebars, which in addition to ergonomic grips with bar ends allow me to alternate between four hand positions with two brake positions.

This is just a slightly lengthy overview of a new tent from Vaude, this will be my main tent for all adventures in the foreseeable future. I will write and post a review when I've used it through some harsher weather, but it seems like a keeper and it really an excellent ultralight choice.

    Hi, nice video, it helped me a lot with my decision. I am planning to buy the Vaude Space Seamless 1-2, version 2024, are you still satisfied? Are the seamless seams still holding? Thank you very much.

    I dont know if you still answer questions 😁 i really like most of the tent. But some guys told me they have a tent with also polyurethan and yes it is lighter but it takes forever to get dry outside in the sun/wind. Any opinion or experience? I dont want to carry a wet tent if i Go for a more days tour.

  • @UnimagiStudio

    bit curious. what's your hand size when wearing gloves? for my hand, I'm using XL and I heard at some forums, that it's too small and I have a big hand. also, I have shoulder problems on my left. when riding started around 50 km, it started uncomfortably. Have you ridden for around 3-4 hours and you don't have problems with your body?

    Same question. Why not change out grips to go with SQ lab grips that match up?

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 Рік тому

      The only SQ Lab grips that have bar ends don't have adjustable ends, the Ergons do. I don't really care about things matching up but rather just acheiving the best comfort. the Ergon grips are great and allow me to set the hand platform and bar angle individually to get the most comfortable ride :)

    Did you have water coming In through those vents? Thanks🙋‍♀️

      Hej, Maja. In very extreme winds a little bit of water made it through the rear vent, but surprisingly little considering the conditions really were extreme. in heavy rain without the extreme winds to push water to and through the mesh there was no issue at all. This tent has been through a lot since this video and only a couple of nights did I have any issue with water.

    Will this help if you get shoulder pain when riding?

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 Рік тому

      That would be hard to answer as the pain could be from various aspects of how you are positioned on your bike - back angle, weight distribution, handlebar width etc etc. If your bike it well fitted, then these could help even if just by allowing you to adjust positions to avoid straining or fatiguing certain muscle areas on longer rides. I have an issue with my right shoulder for many years now and I have definitely found that being able to alternate positions on long rides helps me, where riding with a single position can mean that over time I build a discomfort and aching at that point in my shoulder. but our bodies are different so I can't say, and there are many solutions to set your bike up to allow variation :)

    Hello, tell us about the quality of ventilation in calm but rainy weather. Confuses the location of the ventilation. Too much condensation?

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 2 роки тому

      this is obviously very late but just incase anyone stumbles on this with the same question: the ventilation is exceptional. it is one of the strengths, but also one of the weaknesses. The fly sits with a pretty decent gap which allows good airflow, and the way the material is held over the door by the cross pole means you can keep a pretty nice little opening without any rain getting inside (dependent on wind direction and weight of the rain, but without strong force I've had no issues with the top unzipped in fairly heavy rain). There will be condensation, of course, but with this extra opening is is slightly better than most UL tents of this quality that I have tried, and it dries out nicely if the weather is lending a hand once the storm has passed :) The reason the ventilation is also a weakness is obviously that there isn't much protection from the chilly drafts when the inner is all mesh and there is such a gap from fly to ground. I've generally slept warm with decent internal gear but certainly for adventures where a lot of cold wind is expected, I'd probably prefer something which has at least a little bit of windbreak on the inner and a little less gap at the bottom. In relation to this, one other thing that may be a weakness is the only guy points being on the corners - in very strong wind the guy support just isn't as good as you would hope. I still love this as my main tent for the overall balance, but there are always negatives!

    Will shims work also with spokes rubbing the caliper issue?

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 3 роки тому

      Yep, that is why I got them. I had constant clipping and had to place the callipers too far out to keep a balanced wear on the pads, the shims allowed me to bring the rotor into line for perfect placement and I have had no problems at all since!

    Is it possible to compress the tent when packing it using a compression bag. Should it feel safe to do this?

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 4 роки тому

      Hej! sorry, I just saw this (have been totally absent from this channel. It is definitely possible. The original bag actually does compress smaller than I showed if you take the hooks near the handle, and for longevity I probably wouldn't compress much more than that (with footprint also in the bag) but certainly it could be squished smaller and the material feels as though it would take it as well as most tents, and better than many. I simply prefer not to as with all tents a tighter compression will eventually lead to weakening of the materials.

    • @franknilbock3398
      @franknilbock3398 3 роки тому

      You can compress the tent, no problem at all. The bonding seams are very very stable and strong and also very flexible.

    Had any rain and strong wind so far? I am considering to buy this tent at a discounted price for 500 dollar.

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 4 роки тому

      Sorry to come back so late (and probably no use now) but here is the answer anyway: Plenty of very heavy rain with no issues at all, but I will say the guy positioning isn't the best for wind. The tent holds up fine and I always stayed dry but as the guy lines come only from the corners at the poles, any wind hitting from the direction of a wall will push that wall a little inward. I don't exactly have a complaint for the tent, but the single point I would ask for improvement would be some guy points on the side walls just to keep it more taught in very extreme weather. If guyed out well as is then it still handles pretty strong wind well, but there were a few times in really intense winds when I wished for more tie outs!

    I see you also have Ergon grips w/ bar ends, which model of the Ergons do you have? Your model seems a bit longer bar end, so maybe you have the 4 or 5 model? I'm thinking of replicating your setup. Thnx.

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 Рік тому

      this is years later (I never saw any notifications on this video), but just incase anyone has this question later, thos are the GP3. the 4 and 5 were a bit excessive for my needs and hand size, I find it very comfortable holding lower down on the side with just a few fingers wrapping the bars rather than my whole hand on a thinner section, it feels more stable. (and sorry again that this answer will be redundant to you by now, I hope you found a nice setup :) )

    • @eddystylez
      @eddystylez Рік тому

      @@lifecycles590 Thanks, I was also just going to ask the same question! I'm stuck in analysis paralysis atm. GP3 or GP5!? I'm leaning GP3 now after what you said here. GP5 has 2 extra grips, but I never thought of how stable it would feel. I probably won't even have my hands on them most of the time anyway. These Inner bar ends however really look comfy to use. I think I will end up going with your setup shown here!

    • @lifecycles590
      @lifecycles590 3 роки тому

      Hej. sorry, I haven't been active here at all. I built this bike from a 2019 Ogre frameset (was originally brown), and I love it! I was touring a year before on a Genesis Tour de Fer 20 with very limited tyre clearance, and when trying to avoid the deadly roads in Croatia my mind was finally set that thin tyres suck in the real world! I actually imagined the bike around the ExtraTerrestrial tyres, as I wanted that kind of tread but with a bigger footprint, and the Ogre seemed like the choice. It has been super reliable and so much fun, and the ETs can handle a lot of terrain. Still, though, my positive experience of getting fatter tyres has led me to think that 3" is probably optimal for touring. The Ogre frameset will allow for 27.5x3" but will drop the BB a little more than I want, so I may be building an ECR next year and selling the Ogre. I'd be happy enough with the Ogre for life (to my specs, not so much the Surly builds), but the ECR makes a little more sense to me now.

Absolutely no leaking so the seamless bonding is a really great evolution in tent design, and with the guys tied it can certainly take a wind battering without any comfort issues! Keep an eye out for an update soon, and a detailed writeup when my website is done.. for now I say that if the money is there then this tent is an excellent investment !

    The yellow flowering brassica is CANOLA, and after this it quickly became one of my favourite foragables for snacking. It is widely cultivated in the north-west of France and seems pretty well spread along the water. The buds and flowers are refreshing and tasty :) I still didn’t figure out what the first one mentioned is.
