I have a constant vibration under the accelerator during driving on highway. that could be engine mounts issue?
Hello Alaa, It could be engine mount, or it could be a driveshaft problem. Driveshafts will often give a clunk sound as well. You can put the car into full lock right and then full lock left in a slow, controlled manner. Any noise may indicate a driveshaft problem. But before you do that, just check the inside rim of the wheel on that side. Look for a clear patch on the rim, as it could be that the wheel may be out of balance before digging deeper. A clear patch may indicate that a balance weight has come away.which would be an easy fix. Try swapping the wheels over first. (apology for not getting back sooner, as health issues have messed me up some ).
Changed all the engine mounts and it is as quiet as new! Symptoms sounded like a split exhaust it was so loud. We suspect the rear engine mount may have been faulty for years. Anyway good advice mounts were ~ $500 and $200 to fit (it needs a hoist) All up great job ..............Many Thanks.
Hi Bob... Doesn't that feel so much better. It just tightens the car up real nice. (like new). The hoist is just the prime bit of kit for this job. Well done to you sir. Take care.
You are either rich or...I'm not gonna say what, to pay $500 for a car worth as much.
I would cv boot that mechanic up the ass if that was his repair Also thanks for telling us what your GOING to do. What a useless video
I am going to be doing them today. Let's hope my axle stands and jack don't give up on me and the bolts haven't seized.
Good morning farmdve, good luck... Preparation is key. plenty of plusgas or similer. A good solid foundation to raise the car on. Try and offer a secondary support if possible. (escape route). The car can be replaced . We cant. Give yourself plenty of time to do it, the cross member bolts will be tight or seized and will need an extension bar to release them. getting the alignment correct when withdrawing bolts is also key as to not stripping out the threads. If you are out in the cold rap up, plenty of coffee, some carpet to lay on... Take care.
@@curbsidecarmaintenance6637 I had a friend help me, we managed to do it, the mounts were torn, sadly it didn't fix the problem, as the upper mounts are bad as well, but still waiting on them to arrive.
@@farmdve Hi farmdve, Ah yes ... It can be difficult to see what condition the mounts are in... Until they are removed or that some vibration begins to transmit through the dashboard. Replacing the bottom mounts instantly reduced the excessive engine movement and thump that it would make. Although the top mounts were worn and should have been replaced (so that I didnt have to go back in there again). it was a question of needs is a must at that time and the car was put back into service. I will hasten to add now that the top mounts do need to be replaced as a vibration is transmitting through the dashboard at low revs. But its done another 10,000 miles + since without an issue. It will be worth the wait once they have been replaced.
@@curbsidecarmaintenance6637 I still have the thump, it happens if you floor the gas pedal or when the clutch bites when changing gears(though it doesn't if I rev match). So my main problem is still there, however it has been reduced. Of course even the new lower engine mounts will give if I drive it like this.
Thankyou for coming back to me with that ... It sounds like them motor mounts have long reached the end of there life... And this is a good point. ( Highlighted by farmdve). If your going to change the lower mounts, whilst the car is down do the rest of them... You said that its a manual / stick shift. "Just a thought", as mine is an auto. But perhaps those motor mount bushes could be under a bigger shear force through hard gear changes (more wear and tear). Wheres an auto generally will give a smoother gear change. " Say, its just a thought "... Be nice when its done... As the motor wont be trying to destroy your engine bay or jump out of the car... Which is what it feels like when there bad!.. Did a similier road test on mine... Push it. Push it.
I saw some thick bit liquid on the engine mout the one thats under the coolant reservoir of my t5. Can you tell me if this is a problem ?
Hi Johnny, a picture would help towards diagnosis... Leaks of any kind will soon turn into bigger problems . So its always good to check the car over once a week... What does the liquid look like? (color). What does it feel like? Rubbing it between your thumb and forfinger will give you a feeling of the viscosity of the liquid. (latex gloves)...
That photo you showed with the silicone on, is that really the one that was meant to be a new boot? 😲
Yes... The image was taken about eighty miles down the road. After it had sopposedly been replaced. Your emoji describes just how i looked and felt, when i discovered it.
@@curbsidecarmaintenance6637 how did the garage explain that to you?
@@FatherJack-73 Yes... Thankyou for the question. I havnt been back to him... Yes he should have been called out for such appalling work... Yes i should have gone back to him and at least got an explenation, (but dont like excuses). The thing was that when your filled with anger and rage, its probably not a good idea to have to regurgitate all that again, in front of the person that was responsible for the vehicle whilst repairing it... For fear of losing it!. What it showed me was that this person (garage). Did not care for what i thought. Did not listen correctly to what i asked them to do. Had no respect for the customer or the vehicle. The video is an example of what can happen out there... A good idea is to ask the garage to take pictures of the work before and after. so that one can see whats been done before leaving the garage. He probably thought, well hes not going to go under there and look at that. It was when the transmission started to leak from the driveshaft that i had to go under and have a look. Needing to find solace with this incident, came in the form of the last part of the lords prayer... Forgive those that we tresspass against and those that tresspass against us... (cold comfort).
Wow, thats alot of engine flex. I think my recent cheap car purchase (1998 t4) has the same problem. When accelerating suddenly after engine braking it "thumps" or feels like something heavy jerks around. I hope those mounts arent hard to change :)
Thanks for pointing that out. Yes a lot of flex . Changing the bushes changed all of that. Big difference . Try... Engine Mount Cross Member Front & Rear Torque Bushes Replacement for an insight into my method on replacing them :)
Thanks! Very useful and informative. Cheers.
Thankyou for the comment Christian, you are more than welcome. :)
