Is there a way of pitching the footprint and tent together? Ive seen people do it in other videos where there seems to be a red toggle? But I cant see one on the one I received.
Just received the tent from you guys, should the tent have come with seam sealant? As ive seen a few vids of people receiving seam sealant with their vern 1.
The updated Vern 1 (which you will have) doesn't require seam sealing.
Brilliantly put. I have this tent and i think its a brilliant tent.
Good vid mate
The soulo destroyer 😂
very fair review...if you want to go winter wildcamping in UK, the vern 1 is more than capable, but I wouldn't want to go out in the 10% most extreme weather conditions, so it's perfect for me. Absolutely love it, it's a great tent for the price.
I have one of the original ones and bought it myself from V+P , I think the problem was Nortent gave to many away free to influencers who proceeded to try to compare it to other tents twice the price . I love my vern and will stick with it for many years to come . Fair play to Nortent for replacing the poles to heavier ones 👍. Also Valley and Peak top class for customer service 👌. I buy all my tent stuff there . Cheers guys .
Always carry it with you if you leave it out in the woods someone will still find it same thing with tarps
Great video! Thank you for sharing!
see wish i could afford this tent, seems a good alround tent IMO vmight have to try sell the terra nova quassar i got ha! as that weighs 4.5kg! not ideal weight to carry!
It's a great all-rounder. I do believe the price is extremely competitive. Well, worth a look.
@ValleyandPeak yea mean I can't wait to check this tent out as there £800/£1100! But when I can afford the vern tent I may end up getting one unless someone was kind enough to lend me one 😊 some day
@@Airlessmean Vern1 is £565 with the footprint from V&P…? 🤷🏻♂️
perfect description there. its perfect for my usage and gives me that bit of reassurance that if it gets windier during the night it will handle it no issues. i'll never storm chase in it and as mentioned, if its looking to be bad weather i'll keep my pitch lower down than up on the tops. being tall this was the better option than a soulo and gave me that bit of extra room to open the doors out and be able to sit there when cooking etc without stopping down. i swapped the pegs for eastons that i got from yourselves too to help keep the weight down a little.
Exactly that. I always recommend seeking a more sheltered spot if the winds pick up. It's a great choice of tent for tall people and, like you say, a lot more spacious than the Soulo. Thank you for watching.
Pro
Whats the difference between this and the PC version? As the website says the PC comes in at 3.5 kg.
The PC version is made out of a mixture of Polycotton and cotton resulting in a much heavier fabric than the ripstop silnylon 30D version seen in this video.
Hopefully I’ll be getting mine this Friday from you guys?…….hopefully 😂
Good choice! Let us know how you get on.
Love your choice of wording without saying!!!👍
I got this tent when it was released in the UK, is it true I can now get thicker poles ?
Yes, the tent now comes with 9.5mm poles as standard.
Yes if you get in touch with Nortent they will send out upgraded 9.5mm poles free of charge. If you bought from another supplier you may have to liase with them
I think you made more sense than you think, Dan. A good appraisal of a strong tent that doesn't cost the earth. Good job 👍
Thank you for your comment. We believe it's an excellent tent.
I've been looking at these tents myself. Thank you for not doing the bog stand Vern vs Soulo comparison 😴
Thanks for your refreshingly honest review
It'll be good to see this beast in use out in the frozen field! I look forward to your video on the Nortent Vern 1 too 💪
Looking forward to more wild camping adventure in Wales.
People do get confused with sleeping bag ratings and what they mean. This explains it really well.
Thank you for watching. It can often be quite confusing. Hope this video makes it a little clearer.
This is what reallyconfuses people mate and myself and bloody great video and very helpful 👍
Glad it helped
What groundsheet is used? Is there no inner? Interesting choice.
We are choosing not to take the inner or the Groundsheet on the trip. Mainly as a weight saving exercise. The inner limits the berth of the tent to a two man, and the Groundsheet is made of a 70d.
@ValleyandPeak ah OK so what goes on the ground? Is 70d light? Or heavy i never remember.
We will be sleeping on the snow with sleeping pads to insulate us from the floor @TonyHobbs
@ValleyandPeak yikes where will all your kit go won't it get lost covered with snow how does that work or you put pulk bag in and use that Won't sleeping bags get damp from snow if they move about a bit? Very interesting concept
Great questions! All will be covered in our follow up video of the trip.
What a beast of a tent! You’re absolutely correct, I am yet to see a tent that I would be happy to use as a shelter against an RPG. Good video. 👍🏼
Thank you for watching. It's a very strong tent indeed! Maybe not strong enough to deflect falling shells, though.
I'm looking forward to more videos particularly on quilts. I'm not new to " wild camping" but returning . I have a marmot sawtooth down bag very warm and for me an essential warm comfort for cold wet nights places like hadrians wall . However it's very heavy 3lbs I think. I'm interested in a quilt to go with my big agnes mat , looking forward to more videos, thanks Dan
Thank you for watching. We'll be sure to cover sleeping bags and quilts and the benefits of using each.
Tell me about that watch / navigation device on your wrist please , I've see a few people with these tech navigation things I'd like to know about them thanks
We'll be sure to do a video in the future on navigation using GPS devices, including watches.
Very interesting I'm glad I stumbled on this channel , this video all the Info none if the waffle , perfect . Looking at your other videos I see a few of the items I also recently bought including the big agnes and Xmid, just getting back into hiking after 15 years and updating my equipment, but I've yet to get out 😆 lots of night time sea fishing getting in the way , looking to get out camping hiking soon even though it's winter , thanks for the videos
Thank you for dropping by. New videos will be released every Monday evening.
Well done Dan - must be an experience moving form a wild camper to a You Tube dude! Looking forward to your future posts - subbed :) Good luck pal 👍
Thank you for watching. Appreciate the comment.
Very nice ! Even nicer to see no rain ! ☔️
Thank you 😀
Trying hard not to be negative, and I’m aware you were aiming at ‘beginners’, but…. Rather than repeating (several times) the meaning of 3-season vs 4-season, it would IMO have been much more helpful to point out the differences in construction between the two tent categories, e.g. stronger poles, heavier / warmer fabrics with much less use of mesh and fly down to the ground to prevent wind chill, etc for ‘winter’ tents (you did touch on the mesh issue but in my view didn’t clearly explain the relevance). That would have made the difference much clearer and given more useful pointers to potential buyers. I did like the video though and have subscribed for future releases. 😊
Great points. Would make an excellent video going into more detail of the actual differences between a 3 season and a 4 season tent.
Looking forward to seeing more videos Dan, subscribed 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Interesting video, look forward to more, subbed. Small point found hand in and out pockets little distracting, hope you dont mind me saying
Appreciate your comment, and thank you for watching.
Wearing a puffy with shorts, priceless. You’re lucky in your region not having to carry bear bags or vaults and bear spray. I’m in the US, and am planning the hike the AT in late winter, early spring. So I have to have warm gear, but my warm gear will be shipped back home when the weather warms up, and my spring clothing will arrive. My pack weight for early winter is 24lbs with food for 4 days and a liter of water. My spring pack weight is 22lbs.
Good luck on your hike of the AT. Looks epic!
@@ValleyandPeak Thanks!
Great video Dan
Thank you, David. Appreciate your comment.
Great job Dan , I’ve only every used my Soulo , thinking about getting a mld duomid or trail star for the warmer months
Thanks for watching. I'd definitely check out the X-Mids too.
Alrite Dan. With season ratings I think it's great that people should understand what tent does what. In my opinion it's all relative for that individual, what there capabilities are and what there experience is. Obviously if you don't want to go out in daft conditions or find a sheltered spot you can get away with using a 3 season tent all year round with the right sleep setup and the right clothing to keep warm. Keep up the videos Chris
Than you for the comment Chris. Glad you mentioned using the right sleep setup as I think that's a very crucial part.
Interesting post mate , subbed and looking forward to your vids 👍
Thank you for watching 😀
Yeah I used my black label Soulo at the end of June in high winds. Great video Dan, really good advice!
Perfect example of often needing a 4 season tent during the summer 😀 Thank you for the comment.
I've noticed over the last few years, that some tunnel tents are now being classed as 4 season. Back in the day they would have been classed as 3 season due to the pole geometry not being as strong as a semi/fully geodesic tent which can handle high winds/snow loading better. I actually witnessed a hilleberg nallo GT tunnel tent being blown all over the place on the braithwaite campsite in the lakes while a cheap eurohike semi geodesic tent fared better lol. Why do you think this change in attitude towards pole geometry has come about?
Great question. There's always been season options when it comes to tunnel tents. I think there's a misconception in the UK that tunnel tents aren't wind or winter worthy due to their design. The problem we get in the UK which often makes using a tunnel tent a little more tricky is the constant change in wind direction. Especially on the summits. Tunnel tents excel when pitched faced in the direction of the wind. Once pitched correctly they become incredibly strong. There's a reason why they are so popular on polar expeditions. Geodesic tents do a better job at shedding wind from all directions but they often lack the space a tunnel tent provides which is the trade off. The crucial aspect that makes a 4 season tent a true 4 season tent is the build quality and strength of the poles and the durability of the fabrics used. Tunnel tents have been used for over 50 years in the most challenging of conditions. I do think tunnel tents have their place but the key is to use them wisely.
This is different from run of the mill wild camping videos. More detail about kit, it’s informative and interesting. A breath of fresh air for wild campers and those who enjoy the outdoors. Looking forward to seeing more. Subscribing 100%
Thank you for watching. Really appreciate the comment.
Looks great. Love that your personality comes across in the video which is tricky when you first start out with these things. Also, can say that you come across, just like in real life, as an avid user and gear/outdoor enthusiast. 😊
Thanks so much!
