But, throughout that time, they have special sales viewings. Food n drink provided. Special tours round the park.... All, while there are no, owners on site!!! I wonder why.....

Don't buy one,,,, the park owners are all cheats ,,,, caravan is almost worthless because of the contracts they insist you sign !!

There are conmen in every walk of life, 20 years ago I had to find an affordable home to buy for myself & my three cats & was very interested in a small flat until I found out no animals were permitted to live in the building. I told the estate agent I no longer had any interest in it & he tried very hard to persuade me to go ahead with the purchase as 'once you're living there what's anyone going to be able to do about it'.

When we bought our van, you could only rent out to family and friends, new owners took over, allowed people to rent out, and have hot tubs . It ended up like Party City. If we wanted to sell the van privately, we had to give 15% of sale to the park owners, plus we had to give the buyer a 30-day cooling off period . MORAL OF THE STORY DON'T BUY A CARAVAN.

the caravan park industry HAS NO DEFENCE, look into it and you wil see its all for the park owners but they hide it until you have signed up .....HAVEN little sea tried to do the same thing to me but no questions answered, but the manufactures are involved as well.

This is nothing new. Bourne Leisure are the same they are all rip off merchants

This has been going on for years.never heard a happy story about caravan parks. Just the Caravan Site fee can be £4k plus Rather have several good holidays abroad Wonder how many sales reps own a static caravan on a park?

Yes we bought a 4 year old one we sold it last year after 8 years we were ripped off by the site owners when we sold it. Like many people have been so think about it before you buy because you will lose all of your money in depreciation and site fees. Don't take any notice of people saying you will have happy memories to look back on this will not make up for the money you will lose.

Think of it as like a car for depreciation and running costs. Say a Porsche Taycan, for example.

We sold our static in Wales last year, it was 39x12 in excellent condition 12 years old and we only got £2500. They are a rip off no doubt our van was sold again for at least £18-20000 as vans of that age I have seen for sale for £29000. Site owners are your best friend when buying but not when your selling they will and do rip you off. Never trust them buyers need a proper buy back price agreement, a bit like cars.

Cannot understand why folk waste tens of thousands buying these “vans” when you can quite often rent them albeit off peak for as little as £100 for week inclusive of gas and electric.

Don’t sell the caravan back to the company sell it privately

The pitfall when buying a static caravan is actually buying the static caravan. Biggest pitfall of them all. Do not do it!

And that my friends is why I would never ever Buy a statick caravan

People have to do their research and realise the value of the caravan they buy when it is not sited, you are generally doubling the cost as a minimum, you pay a massive premium to have the caravan on a pitch with site services. Anyone buying a holiday caravan needs to be able to afford to lose most of their investment and if they then pay ridiculous finance fees on top they will be in negative equity from day one. I was involved in the industry 25 years ago when siting fees were minimal and we made our profit on the discount we got on the caravan purchase and covered siting fees in the retail price - generally we worked on a margin of around 25% of the selling price which was more than ample to make a good living, but an expensive caravan in those days was only £25,000.

I think there’s new legislation on its way to stop this ripping off of customers.

We bought from Park Resorts for £20,000. The site fees were misleading to start with and when I was made redundant four years later and was forced to sell the park manager didn't even have the decency to meet me and all I was offered was £2,000. The caravan was resold the following year for close to £20,000 again. No one should ever buy a holiday caravan unless they have money to throw away.
