Antonia Paraskevopoulou - Emergence of R4 terms in M-theory
In its original formulation, the Emergence Proposal postulates that terms in the low-energy effective action are emerging after integrating out towers of states becoming exponentially light in asymptotic regions of the moduli space, in agreement with the Swampland Distance Conjecture. In this talk, I will motivate an M-theoretic refinement of the Emergence Proposal by revisiting the computation of a particular higher derivative coupling in toroidal compactifications of M-theory. On a technical level, our calculations rely on employing an appropriate regularization method and demonstrate that integrating out the full towers of light states is crucial for reproducing the known amplitudes.

    (a late-time clarification on the question session, min. 32:56) quotes from hep-th/2209.11821: - "These will be the equations that, within our slow-roll approximation, describe the dynamics of our scalar fields", p. 5 - "it is enough to restrict to the slow-roll scenario for our purposes", p. 15 "slow roll", defined by the authors as neglecting the scalar-field kinetic-energy and second-derivative terms in p. 4, is not equivalent to accelerated expansion (this is just a one-sided implication). are they actually considering slow-roll? well so it seems. this is inconsistent for scaling cosmologies.
