This is so good! Well done on your first video and keep it going!
Thanks so much Shao! I’m inspired by your own journey!
Please upload more vlogs! :)
wat a nice video, it literally help me a lot, word of advice, could u take some videos of Singapore ,like some travel vlog, thxxxxx
Good video. I’m the opposite. Singaporean living in the US for 5 years now.
Welcome to my home country! I'm a Singaporean Expat in Canada!
Actually, it is pretty uncommon for SG to hit 100 Fahrenheit (38 Degree Celsius). The closest SG ever hit was 37.2 dc which was in Yr2023 in 1 particular neighborhood due to constructions and cutting down of trees. And before that was in Yr1983. Nevertheless, I would say a reasonable range through the year is a constant 29 dc to 35 dc. That abt 85 F to 95 F. And since we are on the equatorial line of this wonderful planet, we are hot and humid most of the time.

Nice debut video Ernestine and largely spot on in your observations, though I think you’ll find some nuances emerge over time. I’ve been here 5 years and from NYC, and thinking about settling down long-term in the region with my base in SG. I look forward to hearing more of your experiences here over time.
So what’s in your job in Singapore?
Selling of gum is prohibited but the gums itself is not a contraband. Your last 'con', freedom of speech is allowed here but with accountability and responsibility. So if someone coming from other places like the US (and other places) where they are used to spew stuff without expecting being held accountable for it, yes Singapore will not be ideal for them. We value our peace and quality of life very much here, so if someone wants to protest they will have to apply for a permit to hold at Hong Lim Park.
Wow, more expensive than NYC rents? My brother left for CA over 30 years ago and I left NYC almost 20 years ago and relocated to SE FL. When I first got here, I was shock what $800 got me in 2005 before the real estate crash in 2009-2012. I am currently looking to move to central FL for cheaper homes. Areas around here are 700+ for modest SF houses. I wouldn’t buy a condo in FL because of the new regulations due to Surfside collapse and high HOA and insurance, if you can get any. Looking at other places around the world since healthcare and violent crimes has risen sharply in US.
The west is in total decline. Singapore, Bangkok, KL and many parts of SE Asia is how things should be.
3 days is definitely not enough to see Singapore. That’s something I would expect someone with no local knowledge to say. You can bring gum in, just no retail. I also appreciate the weather here. Certainly better than freezing your butt off. You just need to dress suitably. Honestly you won’t even notice the “strict laws” if you’re a civic minded citizen. We have way less police patrolling the streets than in the US
im broke, u think i can move there?
When you said 2 or 3 days were enough to explore SG if only you go to touristy places but in reality, Singapore has many more places to offer.Go to youtube / Tiktok or google on natures, reservoirs , wetland and other hidden gems and activities you can do in Singapore.
frank opinions 👍
of course i know u, been a fan of urs from cnbc international.
chewing gum is allowed..you just cant buy them..
It’s a crime if you use a public restroom and do not flush the toilet bowl. Wild
Doing the right thing by moving over-there. Become SG citizen if you can. You won't regret it.
Great vid! I love Singapore! I’ve lived there on and off over the years. I miss it when I am gone.
Yeah. You may not always like it when you are here. You love here after you leave. Agree.
Why when American goes to another country to work, they are expat but when others go to US to work, they are call immigrants? Anyone wanna explain ?
The official difference is supposed to be about duration of stay. Like an expat is short term and immigrants are long term or permanent. However, the term definitely has classist and lowkey racist characteristics because it’s usually a term used to describe western, wealthy immigrants (usually white ppl) who move to other countries and don’t want to be associated with the term immigrant. Not saying that the creator is using the term in such a manner, but as an American I hate the term because its pretty obvious why some people use expat instead of immigrant and it has nothing to do with their duration of stay but rather because being an immigrant to them is being “inferior”
Expat is equal to migrant. No difference just that expat sounds better than migrant especially for people coming from western and 1st world countries. One is high class word and the other a low class word. US calls anyone outside of US aliens.
Welcome to SG 🇸🇬 Hope you'll exploring more while you're first time in SG 🥰🇸🇬🥰 Love to watch & hear of your vlogs again 🥰😇🥰 Have a great Tuesday for you 🌺🌸🌼 Also Merry Xmas 2024 🎄❤️🤍💚✨️🎄 & Happy New Year 2025 🍷🥂🎉🥳🎊🍷🥂
Come back to America and make America great again
Welcome to Singapore 🇸🇬 I hope you’ll get to discover more of our interesting historical, cultural and social bits. Like everywhere else, we’re not perfect. However, most things work here, and citizens and residents are the beneficiaries of our many pragmatic policies, laws, and infrastructure.
get out of the CBD area and to the local living flat (HDB), you will find more cheaper food there .
liked n subscribed❤
Cool 🥸
Chewing gum isnt contraband.... What's illegal is selling gum. U can bring gum into singapore, just dont bring 1 carton, cause then they assume u are gonna sell it.
Hot and humid in Singapore, you will not fall asleep at night without AC, I'm from the CA too
Welcome to SG.
Congrats to your first video. Singaporean here. Try not to jaywalk (haha) because it is for your own safety. Even if the green man is in your favor, stop to look because some drivers may be sleeping or careless. I was fined for jaywalking - $30 to be exact. I was jaywalking near City Hall MRT and as I crossed over the road, the police officer was waiting for me. It happened years ago and I never forgot.
hehe..i remember them doing that or specifically, as you're jaywalking from City Hall mrt, they're hiding behind the pillars and once you cross, like a jack in a box, they pop out.
you will not feel out of place, because you are part of the 70% of the Chinese, no one will notice. Being a small place, can reduce one's mind.
Singaporeans generally have a collectivist mindset. Not in an extreme way like in Japan. If you can understand that, you will be able to make friends with the local community quite easily. However, if you go to Singapore planning to live there with the “ I know my rights” mentality, well that’s not gonna work and you’ll be hated and ostracised very quickly.
We don't need to protest here. If Government don't listen to the people, we vote them out in elections. That was what happened in the 2011 General elections. We have what we need here and don't need the extras. Sometimes the extras are just red herring.
The Government here claims to need more and more expats. The citizens here are not so sure about that. It's one thing for you to move to Singapore because you or your partner found a job here. It's another thing to invite more of the foreign contingent to occupy more of the already limited space here. Hope you keep that in mind as you make these videos. I decline to welcome you to Singapore, but I do not wish you any ill will.
American, also, and also live Singapore. However, reality is I simply couldn't afford to live there. I envy you!
Alright... just how many sticks of chewing gum is the Singapore government paying you with? 😁 Welcome to SIN City!
Welcome to Singapore
Since being strict is something that you mentioned. May I suggest you look up strange laws in SG? Things about WiFi, Toilets, being yourself at home. Should be fun video to see you react to them. P.S. Welcome to SG.
This would be interesting! Thanks for the suggestion!! :)
Anyone who can add value to the lives of the people is welcome.
One of the primary reaosns i lived in Singapore for so long wss the use of the English language.. I'm one of those asians that just grew up speaking it as main language and plus i grew up in the UK . Been here for 22 years and I still enjoy this little red dot
And we love having you here in this little red dot for 22 years and counting
Welcome to SG, You are right for most of the pro and con. Anyway SG gov is good in planning the development of SG, that include almost every 5mins walk, you get to see food around you. 😂 Regarding the gum thing, as long as you dont bring into the mrt area, you are ok. Because chewing gum banned because of the chewing gum stuck in one of mrt door in the early day and cause the mrt transport jam and thousand of commuters stuck in train. That y SG gov banned that to avoid that.😢 We are an Aviation and Maritime hub to connect the world. By the way, enjoy your stay in SG and have a pleasant stay. 😊
Yes I love that food is so easily accessible here! And good to know about the MRT thing. I had no idea!
@ErnestineSiu well, if you are keen to find out, sg night life are coming back too. From hidden speakeasy, Garden by the Bay performance, Changi Airport Jewel performance, Sentosa sensory performance, our night life entertainment are getting back from Covid. If you have time and keen to find out can go take alook and drink. Haha If you do some research, you can find various Asian communities around SG and you can find good food at there.
Welcome move to Singapore 🇸🇬
there are more and more creepy people here, so watch out. not as safe as 10 years ago.
I would think Singlish can be a challenge for the foreigners as well.
Beautiful lady ❤
