2023 Mini Transat Day 4
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
On Day 4 of the Mini Transat I sailed upwind in 30-35 kts of wind (gusts over 40 kts) off the coast of northwest Spain as I sailed out of the Bay of Biscay into the Atlantic Ocean. Note: It was a tough day out on the water and even though I am exhausted in this video, successfully pushing through days like this is part of what makes solo ocean racing so rewarding.

I met you at the Annapolis boat show last month and will be following your journey to the 2027 mini transat race. 🤙⛵ Fair winds!
And is no the simples way to do it in fact You make it more complicated than necessary! 🙈
What ever video minitransant skipets do is just for presumption never du any video to help others learning except the French mann whats is wrong with you ? You could do this video in normal speed but you just wanna show off? crazy people!
That is a nice way of doing it. Please describe how you do or post a link to were I can by that kit. Thanks! John
по сравнению с гонкой венди глоб - тут туристы отдыхают - никто не гонит на пределе своих возможностей ))
Awesome -keep it up.
Time stamp 8:04 Looking at the foot of your main sail it looks like the draft is well aft of center
Why the music. Sooo annoying 🤨
Et vive Donald TRUMP!
Another crazy Russian troll
Great video. Gives a real idea of what it’s like racing Mini. I wish I was 40 years younger! LOL!
Thanks for taking us along with your adventure. You give a fascinating incite into the typical 24 hour cycle of an offshore race boat. Be proud my friend you’ve done well. Fair winds on your next adventure.
saluti dall' italia.
Super...!!
is there finally an American representing us in the MiniTransat scene? Yes!!!!!
learning French may be the problem
…and who decided for this music👎
Oh, to hit the line in my old 1/4_Tnner. Miss that boat. Wishing you much success. Before the 1/4-Tonner, I built and raced a T-Bird. Later I rebuilt/restored a 5-1/2_ Meter built in 1919. Galatea, a classic beauty.
isnt this too NAZI??
Who designed Terminal Leave?
Who designed Patriot Sailing?
Fun watching. Used to sail hobie16 a lot. Somehow reminds me more endurance but similar thrill
Great video...is your mini the former Thunder?
Thanks, yes it is!
Great boat
It’s interesting that boat trim affects your choice of where to catch a little shuteye. 🤔
Classic mistake, blame the boat for speed issues rather than looking at your own skills and decisions.
Check out my full write up where I discuss it more later, that was at the time while racing. I am also more so referencing one specific wind angle. But I am also the only one racing this specific type of Mini (RG) that was designed over a decade ago out and there is something to be said for that. Doesn’t stop me from pushing the boat and racing hard though. So have to disagree on the “classic mistake” but thanks for watching

Great progress!!! Good luck!
Keep up the good work. Was wondering which autopilot you were using?
Thanks! I have NKE electronics and autopilot
That bloody annoying music makes this completely unwatchable.
I'm envious! If I were 40 years younger, then I would try to sail with the mini transat. But being in my late sixties I sail out with an Allegro 27. Offshore sailing with small boats is so rewarding! But I have a question: wouldn't an oldfashioned Genoa 1 give you better speed upwind in light conditions than your fancy code zero?
Turn the music off...pleeeease
Nice to enjoy the performance aspect. Well done!
Great video! Very cool to see how much work it takes to race one of these minis.
I'll second that !
Once again thank you im loving watching your progress 😊
Thank you 😊you are giving me such an insight into your journey
Thanks😊
In my not too extensive race experience, it’s best to stick with the pack... 🐺🐺🐺
Haha I tried but the wind had other ideas 😂😂😂 I was literally drifting in a no wind zone as I watched the boats around take off over the horizon…painful is an understatement!
You said in the first day video that the boat felt slow. Did you find things to change, or find something like weeds on the keel? Good luck in the second leg.
I would love to say it was kelp on the keel but it was a little more complicated than that. It was a combination of my boat struggles sailing that close to the wind on a close reach and I really should have shifted gears sooner into sailing the angles my boat prefers to sail. Great question and thanks for asking! Make sure to check out the write up here: www.pgnoceanracing.com/blog/mini-transat-leg-1-aar-pt1
@@pgnoceanracing I know the feeling. My boat does not like to point high but prefers to foot off, or go with the Code 0 further off the wind. It’s tough when in a fleet of boats that point well.
Well done mate, keep pushing and stay safe. Cheers.
Thanks!!!!
Your ability to endure discomfort is admirable... ! Leg 2 should be better though... Wishing you fair winds and a dry boat ! 😎
Thank you!!!! Looking forward to more downwind sailing
Greetings from Hong Kong. Hope you get your speed issues sorted. Like RHP9898 I don't think the music is appropriate, especially while you're talking. Good luck! 💪
Thanks for the report. Following you on the race report I had no idea the boats were enduring that kind of weather. How do you think Terminal Leave's new set of sails is performing?
Thanks for following the race! I think a lot of people didn’t realize either until one of the other boats dismasted. I am really liking the new sails too! The last set was starting to get some normal wear and tear with thousands of miles on them (raced to Azores last season). Always helps starting a big race with a fresh set (Thanks to Fawcett!)
You look pretty tired sir but still capable if putting in a fascinating and detailed report. More Power to You ! From Ireland with much appreciation of your efforts. La Palma is beautiful. Hope you are enjoying some rest and a bit of sightseeing there .🎉
Thanks! It’s not always easy giving updates but sometimes I think talking into the camera helps me talk through what’s going on strategy wise or might serve as a little therapy hahaha
Fair winds and thx taking us with you
Fantastic start, Peter! And looks like you were able to reel back in some of those boats by the end! Well done!
The weirdo music spoils the video so much!
Did you see the decals?
Tough start, but great attitude. Fair winds.
Hey Patrick. Good to see your post. I wondered if you were lost at sea. Given that the videos from your Iceland adventure stopped with your passage to Norway, I was hoping you made it home in good stead. Very good to know you made it back okay. Cheers.
Glad to see your post!
Any vets teams or groups in oregon ?
Great video and the best motivation for all the brother and sisters that serve .blessings

Best wishes! Sail fast and stay safe!
Give a shout the next time you are in France and I'll buy you a cold one. USNA '76 now sailing out of La Rochelle, France.
