Turning Abstract Clay Heads Into A Complete Narrative Sculpture
Another in the series on creating an abstract clay narrative group. This is just an example and is meant to give you ideas. It is just one of many possibilities and is not meant to be copied.

Pinch Pot Forms for Abstract Clay Heads
Переглядів 7463 роки тому
Here are a few ways to make hollow pinch pots and then turn them into heads and body parts for your abstract clay project. Note: When you make clay hollow, with trapped air inside of it, the clay wall must have some kind of small hole so it won't blow up during the firing process.
Making Quick Abstract Clay Heads

Demo for Abstract Clay Head Project This video was made without any audio on purpose - It's not on mute. Material: Pottery Clay - take precautions with clay dust. The liquid used with a brush at the end is just water. These were just quick rough drafts that were not going to be fired, so I did not use the slip & score technique when adding parts together or consider thickness and hollowing. As ...

Working Safety at Home with Clay & DIY Modeling Tools

1:05 DIY Clay Tools In this short video I'll cover some basic considerations of working with ceramic clay while keeping clay dust out of your home. You can order fairly inexpensive modeling tools online but I'll show you how to make some basic DIY clay sculpting tools with popsicle sticks and other common household items. I did not include making the clay cutter (dental floss and a couple of st...

Clay Bust Project (Part 1 Profile Template)
Переглядів 1,2 тис.4 роки тому
This is the first video demo for the clay bust project. It covers how to grid a profile picture and enlarge it accurately for a template of the desired size. If you get the basic concept you may want to skip through the part where I go box by box. In In this demo the photo is enlarged just slightly, but this technique can be used to go much larger. The handout shown is available to enrolled stu...

Elongated Figure Sculpture Project (Part 5)

Demo of spreading paper mâché clay over the form. The batch in the video is a little wet - I used dry clay (fire & ball) to absorb water in this mix but you could mix in some flour if your batch seems a little too wet. For more info on paper mâché clay and recipes check out Jonni Good's website at: www.ultimatepapermache.com/recipes The mix used was a version of her "original paper mâché clay."

How did you have your students light them? I'd like to do this with my middle school students and display them with lights.
Hola. Que tipo de papel usaste? What tipe of paper is?
That's beautiful! Thank you!!!
❤
Hi. I realize this is a teaching video. I just thought you might be interested in some interesting background information. Please research an artist by the name of William Leslie under light sculptures. He has been creating magnificent art pieces in this vein for decades. I was very fortunate to have taken several private lessons from him. His technique is a bit different and maybe less expensive. Also the end result is also worth seeing. Reed construction is similar though we also use flat reeds. Just plain tissue paper is used and just strips not flat coverage. Maybe 3 to 4 layers depending on desired translucence wanted. It can wrinkle-no problem. The tissue edges blend interestingly. Then you light it. One of his pieces was extremely large and hung from the ceiling of an airport. He lives near San Diego, California.
What are reeds?
Hi! Gary, great video. I am using colored rice paper and I am having water marks/ glue marks on the paper. Does this mean I have too much glue and not enough water? Thanks
Tip, if you use a hair dryer or carefully use a heat gun you can get rid of all the hot glue strings.
Hi Gary, love your work! Where did you buy the bag of roll basswood you used for your project?
Niceee. Not terribly hard upgrade idea: ESP32 and WLED. Turn them into rainbow lamps
what east ESP32 and WLED stand for?
Muy bonito. Creo que también se puede hacer una estructura con alambre.
subscibe guys
Flat reed or round what size?
Tank You
What glue do u use?
Bonjour, merci beaucoup pour votre démonstration..... 🙆🏻 Quelle est l'épaisseur de votre rotin s'il vous plaît ? Merci
Thanks so much for the tutorial. What is the thickness of the reed you use? I want to make sure before I order.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
So useful and simple tutorial, I found this really helpful.A metal wire version of the lantern would be interesting - the joining of wires seamlessly.Anyway a nice tutorial, helpful for making a sellable creative work.
Were you going for ugly? If so. You nailed it.
Where is the project hand-out?
hI! wHERE CAN i FIND THE PROJECT HAND-OUTS?
Hola. Es un trabajo hermoso. ¿Cómo se llama el tipo de varilla que utiliza? En Argentina no sé cómo conseguirla. Gracias
Médula de junco o de rafia
Hi, would it be possible for you to post a link to the hand-out that you are using in this clip into the description of the video? I’d be very grateful. Greetings from the Netherlands. (And best wishes for 2022!)
can you fire with the armature still in place or does the armature HAVE to be removed? thanks!
nice work !! what type glue and paper do you use ?
Probably wet strength tissue paper
transfer paper&white glue
he said tracing paper at the beginning
Hi Gary, thanks for sharing these tutorials. BUT - why don't you answer the questions?????
Hello Monika, I have posted these videos as public, but they are primarily a supplement to the college 3D design class that I teach. I interact with enrolled students on another platform. Sorry, but I rarely check the youtube comments once they're up.
Where can I find information about your course?
Hello, I teach at San Joaquin Delta College: deltacollege.edu/

Hi! It work with wire ?
You can, however the glue will not stick to the wire quite the same way. You may also get rust (depending on the type of wire you use) which can be interesting.
@@garycarlos736 Ok thank you for your answer. I will probably have to use super glue if I am using wire. Indeed that would be interesting.
thank's bro, I'm your new subscriber. Interesting videos...
where is the video of the finished product?
Hi Jake, You can see the finished piece towards the end of the video.
Do you add a light to it?
Essa fita de junco é sintética ou natural?
Reed is a natural fibre
Thanks
Thank you
Огромное спасибо полезное умное видио
Thank you for this tutorial! Can you please make more of reed sculpture videos?

thank you so much for this video tutorial!
Can we use hot glue gun
You could try it, but hot glue is basically plastic. So you are adding a layer that may not sand in the same way as wood.
Why not super glue?
If that's all you have you could try it, just keep it off everting else.
Thank you very much 💓 you are very good teacher 😀
Great vid
A note on glue: If you use "washable" school glue the wood layers might soften and separate when the tools get wet. It would be better to use regular PVA (Elmer's Glue-All) or better yet, exterior wood glue if you have it.
You’re so kind for sharing this knowledge! Thank you so much!
