Lost Craft Podcast Ep. 1 | Field Sweater, Moby Sweater, Handspun Shawl | Spinning & Knitting Podcast
hello! *waves wildly* i’ve been debating starting a little fiber podcast for a good year or so, but it seemed incredibly scary to do! but - i live in an area without a lot of fiber artists / spinners / knitters my age and i wanted to start connecting with fellow crafters - so i started a little spinning and knitting podcast!
my husband and i are currently in the process of building a studio space/wool shed on our property, so be prepared to see footage of that as well as all of the fibery things i get up to! I am a spinner at heart, but also knit, weave, wood turn, and so many other things. i am a graphic designer and illustrator by trade and would like to get back into fine art and traditional painting as well as writing (for funsies instead of work). we also have quite a few horses and sheep, as well as chickens, dogs, cats, and so many other animals (perks of having 127 acres of pasture land, hehe). so they will most certainly feature heavily on here.
this whole thing *gestures wildly at youtube* is going to just be a hodge podge of my very varied interests…so be prepared for a lot of whiplash and confusion because my hobbies range from horses/horse training and psychology to spinning to writing to zelda. i also used to be very into video editing and filming, and i’m excited to dabble in that again.
this video is not up to my usual standard…i tried out one of my husband’s old 50mm lenses and i do not like the quality. i’ll definitely be sticking to my old tried and true lenses from here on out! but i wanted to get /something/ out vs allowing fear to keep me from even trying!
my main spinning wheel is a kromski polonaise i stained and finished myself. i plan on painting it in the next few months/year, so be on the lookout for that video! i also use a lot of woodland woodworking and willow’s spindles for my support spinning. my favorite wool combs are a pair of louet mini combs, but i hope to acquire many more styles and brands of wool combs to make a comparison video…because when i was looking at what combs to get i could not find any comparison videos.

creating sustainable habits for your creativity ✨ bad art november week two
Переглядів 1604 роки тому
So I totally forgot that I had uploaded this and scheduled it...oops? 😂. Last week was a tougher week. I have some pretty intense anxiety and also suffer from PTSD triggered panic attacks (I have triggers from traumatic events that cause severe anxiety attacks) and lack of sleep is a trigger for me. So not sleeping the first week of this challenge in order to make content /wasn’t/ great for my ...
choosing to put the wildness back into our art ✨ bad art november day 4

I can't believe we're almost done with the first week of bad art november! I'm in the process of finishing the little witches bonnet I'm making, and I just absolutely adore how it's turning out so far. it's everything I hoped it would be, and I really love sewing it together and just /making/ something with my hands! I also finished the last little creature in my nocturnal creatures series the ...
Who do you want to be? ✨ nano wrimo day 3
Переглядів 194 роки тому
This day was an experience. It was a really good day, but I kept coming up against problem after problem with the pattern for this little witched bonnet. Math is not my strong suit, and as much as I love Bernadette Banner, when she says her videos are not tutorials /she really means it/. The mockup took me ages longer than I anticipated, but I finally have it done and it's ready to be cut out o...
still getting into the swing of things ✨ nano wrimo day 3

Nano Wrimo is in full swing now...although, to be honest, I'm still settling into the swing of things. I was expecting to slide into this challenge with a bit more grace than I have so far, but I'm ok with this slow slide. I think I underestimated how much work this month would be and am reeling a bit from how little free time I suddenly have. However, I don't think it's a bad thing, because I'...
learn to fill yourself first ✨ nano wrimo day 1
Переглядів 224 роки тому
The first day of NaNo WriMo (otherwise known as National Novel Writing month) has come and gone...and I'm left with what feels like very little to show for it. I wrote all of 500 words, but I'm also ok with it. I feel a peace and like I was able to refill my batteries a little bit. I may not have created anything tangible...but I did create memories. I disconnected from the stress that normally...
🎨 let's create a world of coziness in my tiny house ✨ learning to make the everyday magical

It was the last week of Preptober this last week...and did I actually get any work done plotting my novel? You bet your bottom dollar I didn't! Instead I spent the week getting ready for sewing projects and just allowing myself to rest and enjoy my time. I disconnected from my phone, baked some noodles, and I waxed eloquently (...or not so much) on some of the mental health struggles I've had o...
November is for bad art ✨ create bad art with me

Nano Wrimo will soon be upon us. The project that dictates an entire month of my year, or 1/12th of my life, is coming. This year, however, I am changing things up. Rather than simply writing 50,000 words, I am going to kick off this creative funk I have going on and I am just going to create bad art. National Novel Writing Month is something I look forward to every year, simply because it’s th...
I for one I’m thankful that you’ve discovered spinning. I think it will help you and your endeavor to focus and concentrate. I have the same problem and my brain can take me into other worlds that I never thought I could go into but this has happened since my mom passed away and my sister passed away, I wish you the best of luck please continue spinning wealth of knowledge and I truly appreciate everything that you’re doing welcome to spinning
so looking forward to your next episode 😊
I don’t know what happened to my comment but I just wanted to say thank you for deciding to podcast. I love all the things that you have shared with us. You have inspired me to try spinning again on my drop spindles or wheel, I have an Ashford Kiwi , i think it’s vintage.
Awww, thank you so much!! And I definitely think you should definitely start spinning again 👀. It’s so soothing and so just *right* for this time of year. Plus making with your handspun is just so satisfying. If you haven’t yet, definitely play around with some woolen spinning! It’s my favorite and is so rhythmic and calming 💜
You are a beautiful spinner.❤ I love the idea of using just your own yarn for knitting, that’s my goal for the coming year.😊
Awww, thank you so much! And that’s an awesome goal! I can’t go back to knitting with anything but handspun now 🥲. It just adds so much love (cheesy. I know 😂) and character to the things you make!!!
Hello! Nice to meet you :) @jillianeve would be honored to know she impacted you so positively!
Nice to meet you too! And I hope she would! She is the reason I started on this whole spinning journey 💜
Only just started watching your podcast. I know am going to enjoy it. I am a spinner and multi crafter as well. I like your music in the background BUT it was he same few bars over and over, I kept wanting to hear it go on. Look forward to more episodes.
Thank you! I get bored VERY quickly, so being able to rotate through multiple hobbies keeps it all feeling fresh and fun! And yeah, you only have so much to choose from when you’re working with music in the Creative Commons, haha :)
Enjoyed your podcast. What are your cat and dogs names. The music is a little distracting.while tying to concentrate on your talking
@@LindaNixon-ws4ge thank you! And we have 3 dogs, a female border collie named Koa, a male border collie x mini Aussie named Maximus or ‘Max’, and blue heeler named Winston :). Our cat is Rowan or ‘Ro Ro’ (although someone rehomed a pregnant female cat to our barn and she just had six kittens 😅. So there will be another kitten in our home soon!). Oh, good to know! I’ll have to keep that in mind :). The music actually helps my brain focus on the person talking, as weird as that is, haha!
Thank you for a lovely episode. I love everything to do with fibre and as I get older I want to learn how to do it all. I just bought my first drop spindle and am excited to jump into the world of spinning. Seeing your wonderful sweater from your own hand spun yarn and hearing your enjoyment of having slowed the process down to experience the fibre fully is exactly what I am looking forward to. You mentioned a favourite walking skirt. Did you sew it yourself? What pattern did you use? Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
Aww, thank you! I’m also a huge fiber nut (if you couldn’t tell, haha!) and just love everything about it. The tactile experience is just out of this world. I did sew it myself! I used a self drafted pattern from Keystone’s Jacket and Dress Cutter. It was easy to draft and I love the movement it has when it’s made out of wool! I think you can download the manual on archive.org :)
Actually…here’s the link to it :) archive.org/details/keystonejacketdr00heck
Lovely video, thank you. I am a newer spinner and hope to grasp grist and spinning for a project over this winter!
Thank you so much! And that sounds like such a lovely winter project 💜. I love playing around with technical spinning here and there. It makes things so interesting!
Thank you for all you have said about art. I am an artist so I really appreciate all of your words. Thank you. You are a beautiful soul
Aww, thank you so much! Illustration and art was how I paid the bills for a while and I have such a deep appreciation for art and just beauty in general 💜
Hey, I’ve been working with Romney for a year now and Romney wants to be spun supported long draw. I spun mine with a world of 18 to 20 and I’ll spin it on the 18 with the supported long draw and then I’ll fly with a 10 hope that helps. I get the softest bouncy next to skin soft
I spin most things with a supported long draw, and I think I’ve been spinning my Romney at about an 18:1 ratio - but I think I may be overplying it a bit! I tend to ply with the same whorl I spun with but I’ll have to try dropping the ratio down when I go to ply it! I do want to try playing with more long wools to try and dial in how to spin them in a way I enjoy :)
Loved your podcast!✨
Thank you so much!
Waving back! Just had to pause and say your cat is beautiful ❤ Okay, back to watching!
@@mywoolmitten awww, thank you! I’ve always been partial to calicos so I think she’s absolutely adorable 🥰
i love that your cat is so cuddly!!! :)
@@TheNurseCupcake she’s the best 🥰. Once it starts getting cold keeping her OUT of your lap and your space is the hard part!
I love the encouragement you offer here!
Any chance of getting to read your stories? 😁
Probably not unless you’re actually a friend of mine...they’re tHAT bad 😂. If you message me I can send you snippets. But no judgements!!! And I very rarely, if ever, actually finish stories 😂
So beautiful, the message & the scenery both, you guys are adorable 💚🍂🍁 I miss apple hill so much this was so refreshing to see 🥰
Do y’all see how talented and beautiful my wife is!?
I love you 💜
I’ve always seen ~ so glad she’s sharing her gifts
This brought tears to my eyes, so beautiful and so many relateable parts & quotes that I'd totally requote. Loving these videos 🥰
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! That warms my heart and makes ME teary 💜. My goal is to create content that is vulnerable and honest and creates a place for the soul to rest. It’s something I wish there was more of so I’m attempting to create myself now 💜
