Actually, Harry's MGM films from the 40s often had Hi-Fi multitrack elements, usually mixed to mono for the theaters of the era. But, the MGM/Turner vaults still hold most of the direct-to-film music tracks, many of which contain astonishing sound. The dub in this posting doesn't necessarily reflect what the studios were able to capture, even then. I think Turner actually issued this track on a CD compilation, and it sounds quite good.

That band must have been incredible to hear live. Too bad they didn't have hi-fi recording at this point in James' career.

What a lucky bastard, played with Benny, married Betty Grable. her with the 100 million dollar legs, fronted his own band, who I had the pleasure of watching at The Southport theatre, and gave pleasure to millions, thanks a million, Harry. RIP.

I know this is an old post, but the great Harry James played a "Parduba 5 DOUBLE-CUP" mouthpiece. You can still get them. Also, the great lead trumpeter Conrad Gozzo played a standard Bach 7C. You can listen to Conrad Gozzo here on UA-cam.

Harry James was the son of a circus trumpeter. His Dad would make him perfect a page of the arban book everyday. I wish I'd had someone beating me if I didn't play correctly. I never had that kind of motivation.
