You are welcome. The game is OK from what I've played, but it's main source of hype is as a benchmark game for the PC. I never hear anyone say they actually like the game, they just use it for Ray Tracing benchmarks on GPU's. If you get the PS4 version new for $15 on ebay like I did, it does come with a download code for the PS5 if you get a PS5 in the future. I, personally, don't plan on getting a PS5 any time soon. As for cheap PC's, it depends on your budget. You can always get a used Dell Optiplex with a 6th gen i5-i7 used for cheap, and then get something like a 6 gig RTX 3050 that doesn't take an external power connector for a cheaper, yet still capable rig. That's if you want a budget rig.

I heard the Phantom Liberty expansion really improves on the base game, but yeah, I'm probably going to wait for the PS5's price to come down a lil more before I get one. And coincidentally, I do have 'small form factor' Dell Optiplex 3050 with a 7th gen i5. It's great for emulation, indies, and old pc games, but I haven't installed a graphics card, since the integrated graphics have been sufficient for those things. One of the reasons I bought PS4 Pro was because I realized I preferred to play, graphically intensive games especially, on consoles (yes i know pc is objectively better lol). The idea of buying the disc and putting it in the game machine box is still appealing for some reason.

@@quiet44 I prefer to have the physical game in my hands as well. I recently built a PC, and put both a Blu Ray Drive and DVD drive in it. I do not like the idea of "You will own nothing and be happy." I tend to double up on console ports of PC games I like, for example, I first played God of War and Marvel's Spiderman on the PC (I didn't own a PS4 yet), and have since also bought them on the PS4. I also found the PS4 version of Ragnarok for $20 brand new at my local Walmart, so that saved me $40-$50 on the PC and PS5 version. I also love going to my local gameXchange and picking up $5-$10 PS4 games. I don't care if the PC version runs or looks better. From a design standpoint, it's literally the same game. Gone are the days where the console ports had to have a lot of content cut out of them to get them to run on the console vs the PC. Now, the games are the same, minus performance and graphics.

I just got my PS4 Pro at the end of 2023. It was the first PS4 I owned. I figured that if I'm going to buy my first PS4 10 years too late, I'm gonna get a PS4 Pro. Really cool system. I'm glad I got the Pro. Better late than never. I think I only paid around $240 for it.

For me, I think the smoothed look is what I'm more used to, because I always used to turn smoothing on once I got my PS2. There is something charming about the good old pixelated textures of the PS1. I just played PS1 games on the PS2 longer then I actually played them on the PS1. I like them both. The fast loading feature on the PS2 is a godsend for some PS1 games though.

I'm playing through it again. I'm enjoying it for what it is. The bugs and jankieness of the fighting can be annoying for sure. It's fighting system was far more in-depth than GTA's was. Graphically, it looks freaking amazing for a PS2 game. Granted, they focused more on making it pretty than ironing out the myriads of glitches, but it doesn't even look like it's released in the same generation as San Andreas. I still think it's more complete than the average modern game is as launch. Lol

@@RandomGameplaySamples-rt6je lol, It probably is. I played it on the Xbox (still have my copy of it) and it eventually got to the point where it would go into an infinite load screen when I tried to load my saves. It really upset me because up to that point I had been really enjoying it.

@@ClellBiggs I've heard the Xbox and Gamecube versions are even more glitchy than the PS2 version. When I posted it as an underrated gem in 2008, I remember one of the comments that told me that. Don't ask me how I remember that. It's just something that just stuck in my head regarding this game.

You are Welcome. I have to hook my 7800 up through an old VCR to convert it to composite in order to run it through my upscaler. The plus side to that is it makes it look a lot more authentic to how we played games back in the day with all the noise added by an RF switch. It makes it have a cool visual aesthetic.

I've owned the PC version for years, but have never gotten it to run. I should probably pick up the PS1 version some day

@@RandomGameplaySamples-rt6je If you can get the CD (or an image of the CD) for Magic Carpet mounted in DOSBox you can get it to run without crashing if you play with cycles fixed at around 45000 (or at least that’s what worked for me). That should make it run like it did on CPUs of the time, which helps quite a lot as the game is sensitive to high processor speeds.

It is a fun game. I need to play it more. I've had it for over a decade, but have yet to play past the first level or two of it. I also appreciate the offer to send me a game, but I decided many years ago that I don't accept free things from my subscribers. For me, I just don't feel right about taking, even if it's not a bother to you to send it. I've always been more of the I would rather give to my subscribers than take anything from them. I've had a few people offer to send me games in the past, but I always politely decline. Maybe someday I should dust off Heavenly Guardian and give it a full playthrough and review. I've just been working so much lately that I haven't even been in the writing mood as of late. That's why my new review channel has been dormant since last year. I've been busy, and haven't felt very creative as of late. I'll come back around to it eventually though.

Oddly enough, it was Jet Set Radio Future, Shenmue 2, Deus Ex: Invisible War, and Panzer Dragoon: Orta. I had already had a close friend that had an Xbox and Halo, so I had already played my fill of Halo by then. It was the Dreamcast and Saturn series' that enticed me the most, and the fact that my computer at the time had no chance of playing Invisible War. I loved the original Deus Ex, and I still really love Invisible War despite the hate it gets

I forgot what I even wrote. Lol. But for the price, Vanark was definitely more worth it when it was a budget game. Now that it's price up so high, I'd take something like Omega Boost over it. I'm betting it's more expensive than Panzer Dragoon Zwei which I would take over both conbined. Zwei is my favorite PD game, granted I've never played Saga due to it's price

Great game. It's still one of my favorite PS2 FPS games of all time.

I mean, the core design is probably the same. If you can overlook the technical issues, it's probably not the worst experience. I bought this factory sealed for $15 on ebay, so it's cheap to pick up. I guess it depends on if you have a semi recent PC to pick up the PC version. If Not, the PRO is a little faster than the base PS4, so it will run a little better than the Base version. If you're interested in the storyline, it's probably the same in all versions of the game

I encoded the video at 60 fps. You can tell the game isn't running at 60fps.

I chose it over Nvida for my build. The GRE is a great card, but if you want Ray Tracing and DLSS, the 4070 would be the better for you. I chose it for the 16 gigs of V-ram. I previously had an RTX 2060, and Ray tracing is cool, but once I got used to it, I decided that having more V-ram was more important to me than RTX. I wanted a build that would last me for years, and 16 gigs of V-ram should last for quite a while before it struggles in running games. It was a trade off. DLSS and the better Ray Tracing performance is great, but I chose more V-ram for price to performance.

Eh, it's still playable. It might be the worst running version of the game, but the gameplay design is the same.

For me, that's the best feature of using an AMD GPU. Nvidia may win in Ray Tracing, but being able to use FSR to upscale retro PC games to 4K wins it for me, considering how many old games I own.

It really does add to the game. It sounds gimmicky, but the time mechanics really do make the combat feel even better.

That'd be awesome. Maybe add some raytracing to make those id tech 4 engine lighting effects pop even more. I know that Quake 4 isn't the fan favorite, but I still love this game.

I hope the PC version at least runs better than the 360 version. I'm not sure if I've played the 360 version on hard, but hard on consoles is usually normal difficulty on PC when it comes to FPS games.

If you have an Xbox One, the backwards compatibility should make it run smoother. Other than that, the PC version should run better if you have the option.

I think it was so heavily criticized at the time because it was the dawn of the digital age, and at that time, mainstream gamers/gaming journalists valued games that had online play over short, single player games. If you remember, they upped the price of games from $50 in the PS2 era to $60 in the PS3 era, so a lot of games were criticized for being short while costing more. Going back to play this game today it's great that it's a shorter game. At the time it wasn't appreciated for it's length, but now, the game can stand on it's own. There was just that short period of time in the early 7th gen where shorter single-player games were criticized more for being short.

@@RandomGameplaySamples-rt6je I worked at gamestop from the ps3 launch to like, 2010, and yeah the cultural obsession with online and shooters was nauseating.

Hopefully there's a work around. The XR1 is a solid capture card. Just remember to update the bios when you finally get one. I have instructions on how to do it in the description.

It's definitely a great card for half the price. The only thing it doesn't do well is brighten the footage when I used my Hyperkin PS2 cable, but that cable is pretty dark. The Elgato brightens the footage better. However, with everything else I use, it works just as good as the El Gato.
