Track Your Books with a Hobonichi Weeks Planner
It's time to get organized and this is a perfect time to set your sights on something you can have fun doing. I share last year's and embark on the new one.
**Note**
This is a different style video for me. Thanks for your patience while I experiment with this show-and-tell format for my Hobonichi Weeks. ⭐️
Time for some organization? I’m not an expert, but I do love this Hobonichi Weeks planner. The set-up of it really allows for your own creativity. I purchased mine at a local shop that carries really amazing stationary. Check for similar stores in your area, or order online from Oblation.

Enough already! No More Wicked!! 🧙

Could be an UNPOPULAR opinion, but I've avoided Wicked the theatrical production and the movie. But the book, well, that's another story! The book has been around since 1995 and it's very popular. It's not at all like the movie. I mean the essence is there, but there aren't any musical acts and it focuses more on Oz, so what's the deal? Find out more in this video about my issues. Plain Jane and the Mermaid is SO good! It got 4 and more stars on Goodreads and it's a great graphic novel that will leave you thinking about it long after the last page. If Plain Jane and the Mermaid were described as a movie mashup, it could be: "Despicable Me meets The Little Mermaid." It combines the quirky humor, heart, and unexpected heroism of Despicable Me with the magical underwater al...

I've seen the musical, the movie, and read the novel, and I like all three for different reasons. The book is very much The Tragedy of Elphaba, whereras the musical undercuts this in ways that I won't go into here. The stage musical and the film focus more on the relationship between Elphaba and G(a)linda, as you said, and I personally think that the book would have benefitted from delving a little more into their relationship, because what we do get is fascinating. As far as the politics is concerned, the movie is an interesting compromise between the book and the show. That extra hour of runtime (act one of the show runs about an hour and a half) really lets the story breathe; the show moves at a breakneck pace. The second act of the show is less coherent than the first, and I've heard that the second movie will follow the show less closely than the first, so I expect it will also attempt that compromise. I hope it sticks the landing, it would be a real shame if the second movie was a letdown after how good the first was.

@@trevorlong8659 Yes, the book is very much the tragic story of Elphaba and I can’t imagine not having the detail that the movie provided. I wish I had more of a comparison but I appreciate your comments about the movie being a compromise between book and show. That’s interesting. Will you see the movie again? I gotta admit, I’m going to. I’ll reread the book first.

@booknooklibrarian I plan to buy it on blu ray when it's released, I think in February. I don't want to provide more of a comparison in case you or any of your viewers are unfamiliar with the plot of the second act of the show.

My personal gripe about the movie is that they broke it up into two pieces. I've got sequel fatigue. I just want one movie and call it a day. I've also got some reservations about Part 02 because the second half of the show is definitely the weaker element - so I'm hoping they pull from the book (s) and make it different than the play. We shall see... Thoughts on the other books Maguire has written set in Oz?

@@DrCrankyPantsReads I am suddenly obsessed with the topic of Oz. I decided to reread The Wonderful Wizard and I may do the same with Wicked and the Maguire series, The Wicked Years. I only ever read Wicked and that was in the 90s. Sequel fatigue, I totally agree, however, I’m afraid it’s too late. I’m obsessed.

Thank you for this amazing tip. I used to be a prolific reader for leisure, but since having kids and now that I’m a “grown up” who reads a lot for work, I found I had massively slowed down and was feeling so discouraged about it. In 2024 I challenged myself to read 12 books in 12 months. Not one a month but just 12 in 12 months. I found that momentum was so much a part of that. The more I read the more I wanted to. I ultimately managed to get to 13 last year, 6 more that I made time for in 2023 😊 little steps!
