Half Man Half Pirate

Приєднався 1 січ 2013
Hi and welcome along!
Over 30 years ago I lost a leg in a motorcycle accident, when I say lost I don't mean I misplaced it, rather it was removed from me without any prior discussion.
Since then I've done my best to live my life as I would have done regardless and one of those things is my passion for motorbikes and travel and ,more recently, to try new things. I realised that I didn't document these things so I've started this channel as a bit of a hobby but also to put stuff out there in case anyone else would find it useful.
I haven't lost my sense of humour so feel free to banter along and ask any questions.
I currently ride a BMW R1250 GSA and a Kawasaki Versys 1000 .
I'm also on Instagram so find me here,

I Take My GS 1250 Adventure up the Jaun Pass.
Long weekend is nearly over and for the last day I have to ride over 6oo miles home.
I came across the Jaun Pass ( Or rather Calimoto did) and quite enjoyed it, quieter than the main passes and a good mix of corners.
Loved this trip from start to finish, I hope you enjoy it too.

We leave the wonderful Domaine du Roiffe and head south to the stunning town of Rocamadour literally built into the cliff face. As an amputee it certainly was a challenge to walk down and back up the steep paths but we rewarded ourselves with a nice bottle of local wine! I also mistakenly formatted the wrong SD card for this day from the helmet cam so it was a challenge to recover it and find u...

Stay tuned for the end for a tour of the Hotel complex and its grounds, lots of history and things to see.

whew 1000 km days!
Yes they were a bit extreme but not too bad to ride. Comfy seat is a must though 😂
600miles ! can I ask you ? .. Whats wrong with your head 🤣 Nice run home, Thanks for sharing...👍 🥃
😂 it wasn't that bad to be fair, roughly half of nice bendy roads then half at 80mph so ticks off quite quickly.
@@HalfManHalfPirate Done 510 miles in a day across France two up. I have done this twice just something you have to do when you work and travel. I do get your point though !! LOL.
Having less traffic on the roads certainly helps, and nicer weather 😂
@@HalfManHalfPirate Sooo True
Wow stunning road you found on this trip… must spend more time on the other side of the channel ❤
Thanks, you've got no excuses as you live closer to the Chunnel than me! 😂
very nice video but you don't have any riding technic......
I found this Pass by accident too. Near the top there's a lay-by on the left, on the right is a track to a small cafe (11.50 in the video)
Nice find! I missed the cafe, I could have done with some caffeine lol.
Love riding so early in the morning, best views!
and less traffic, I don't often get up so early as I normally have less miles to do but it could be a new thing for me!
Need to do these roads/passes SOON!
Do IT! 😄
@@HalfManHalfPirate doing either Picos or Swiss passes next year just need to decide which one👍
Nice ride!
Thanks!
what a fantastic playground.😁
Stunning location for sure!
Love it mate. Scenery is out of this world.
Spectacular isn't it! 😍
Great vid, riding, scenery and road.
Thanks again, if you're planning a trip then this region is great for loads of roads like this. Base yourself in Castellane and you spend a week riding great roads.
Wow, that is beautiful.... I have just bookmarked it for my next summers 2 week trip to the French alps. (that might be ~8 months away, but looking at this just builds the excitement already).
Thanks, I find I enjoy the planning of trips quite enjoyable as, like you say it builds the excitement! I did the similar tour last year as well which I still have to edit. Have you got any other places on the tour list?
Was urging you to do all 4 in 1 hit, it was on on on all the time. Get out past and in don’t dally
I did do 4 in one day, I just can't fit them all in one video. Nufenen, Gotthard, Furka and Grimsel. 👍
What a fantastic route ! ......Thanks so much for having us along for the "Adventure" ..look forward to the next one 🥃
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I certainly had a blast that day! There were lots that unfortunately didn't make it into the vid as I didn't want a long vid.
Need to try a trip like this alone.
It's quite liberating!
It's even better two up. As he said: Better photographs. I could add a few other things that are better if my memory serves me right. I'm 66 and went camping in Switzerland with my girlfriend on my Suzuki GT550 for the first time in 1979 but I am alone now. I got a motorcycle again this May and camped in Harz this summer - in the rain. I hope to go to Switzerland next summer - in the sun.
@fuglbird normally my wife does exactly that but sometimes solo trips are just what's needed (she was also away on her own trip 😀). I hope you keep on enjoying your trips for some time yet 👍
Nice one... you did the old Tremola road. Gotta be one of the coolest roads in Europe, with all those cobblestones!
Thanks, it was certainly interesting! The top (not on film) was certainly unique, very twisty.
Nice Ride!!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
Nufenen is on my list. It looks spectacular! Did the others a couple years ago, but didn't have enough time to do this one or the old Tremola road. Need to go back soon, methinks! Nice vid... looking forward to the next one 🙂👍
Glad you enjoyed it! So many passes and too little time 😁 Which one is your favourite?
@HalfManHalfPirate They're all brilliant, but I liked Susten the most. I'm tackling Stelvio for the first time next year... a right of passage for most bikers! 😁
@theheroblob5036 ah yes the Susten was my favourite, that was the last one I did so will come later in this series. Stelvio is always an experience 👍
excellent film, as always.
Thanks for watching and commenting, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
mirror gopro holder ? where to buy , can it rotate on the ride ?
Hi, it's this one. search.app?link=https%3A%2F%2Fultimateaddons.com%2Fcollections%2Fgopro-motorcycle%2Fproducts%2Fgopro-hero-motorcycle-action-camera-mounts-25mm-ball-mounts&Csh%2Fx%2Fgs%2Fm2%2F4. Not sure if it can rotate while you ride as you'd have to loosen it off, turn it, tighten it back up?
didier auriol
That's the one! 😂 Welcome to the mad ramblings of a lone rider 🤣
Great video. Subscribed
Thanks bud, it's much appreciated! I feel as though it's getting better the more I make as I try and improve the production.
Nice work Yox 👏🏻🏔️ 👏🏻
Thanks mate 👍
the nufenen pass has a completely different feel to the other passes around there
Yes I did feel that after riding the others. Also the Susten pass is different to the others (that one is coming! )
@HalfManHalfPirate I stayed at hotel hof und post at the bottom of the susten, was a few years ago I could do with revisiting around there again 👌
@simonbeal2148 this was my first time, will definitely go back with Josie 👍
Beautiful winding roads… let me know when you do another 4 day weekend, I’ll join you !
Thank bud, I tend to do these with minimal planning and decide a few days before.
What spectacular scenery, and so expertly shot. Great video, and a great series. Itching to visit the same area now. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, much appreciated 🤟 I enjoyed riding this series and enjoyed making the vids.
Nice vlog!
Thanks 👍 much appreciated.
First!!!🤣
🤣🤣 there's no prize, only pride

Wow looks stunning mate the drone shots looked mega 👏👏👏
@mattward5335 cheers ! rusty flying but I do need to to take it out more.
Great video buddy. Fantastic place to ride. Not seen your front wheel lift yet though. 😂 🏍💨💨💨
Not on camera 😂
very beautiful video. thnx for this.... i d like to ask aabout your gps, what is that ?
Hiya, thanks for the compliment 👍 it's much appreciated. My GPS is a Google Pixel 7 phone which I use just for this. It's waterproof and has wireless charging. This sits in a wireless charger that I bought off eBay that clips into the BMW nav mount. I run Calimoto as the mapping software but you could use any e.g. Google Maps, Waze etc. I just tether my personal phone to this one for data use and my personal phone stays in my pocket. You could use your main phone in the holder if you want though.
@@HalfManHalfPirate thank you very much with this details... i have my main phone in my pocket too, i have a Lamicallla phone mount with my second phone and i prefer as mapping software Google Maps and Osmand, is Callimoto working good , didnt try it yet.... ah i forgot Wikiloc, its my learning all around places mapping software, i check out motorbikers are where to go or where should i ride....
@@mustafakorkut9897 Calimoto is good for finding twisty routes but can take you down goat tracks! It has a web based planner which I use and then I adjust the route to suit me. It then appears on the phone app, it's also the only app I know where you can have one part of your route set to highway, the next bit twisty, the next bit no highway etc. You can also plan routes on the phone app. I think they do a trial but it's constrained to your local area, then you pay a yearly subscription if you like it.
@@HalfManHalfPirate yes that sounds good. i will try it, i dont like highways, very nice informations, thank you so much, i m from istanbul Türkiye.....
Great video, can't think of a better way to spend 4 days off 👍
Thanks bud, me neither now! 😂 Still more to come as well. I was working on episode 2 today and the views really come into it.
@ look forward to the future episodes and really making me wanting to go on a spontaneous trip now!
Nice vid mate decent mileage in a day ! looking forward to next part 👍🏍️💨
Cheers Matt, the next two days are all about the views. A lot more chilled.
The Chocolate 🍫 Fondue 🫕 Tour. Love it!
Cheers Jamie, thanks for watching and commenting..it's much appreciated 👍
Great, how nice, If you'd called me before i'd joined you on the t3 Carabineiri, up from the shore.
Big mile day that mate. Look forward to the next instalment.
Cheers bud, it was some distance but I enjoyed it all. There was loads more I couldn't fit in the vid as well.
Looked fantastic 😀 ...Thats a huge mile munching day ! ...💪 🥃
Thanks bud, it was a great day and I enjoyed it all. It's getting better as well 😁
Tight bugger no breakfast!!🤣🤣only kidding mate, that’s mega miles for me in one day! Crikey how has the battery been? As it sounded like it didn’t want to start…🤔liked, shared and commented!!☑️☑️☑️
Not being tight, I left before breakfast started 😂 Battery is fine as it's still the same one in it and I've done 24k now. I just put my fingers in my ears and go 'La la la laaa' 😁 Thanks for sharing bud, beer on me next time. 🤟
@ 💋💋💋💋❤️❤️❤️
Nice vid thanks for taking us along on your trip👍 you both falling in the river was the best bit 😉😂
😂 thanks.....er......I think 😂
Great work....a vid that makes you smile is always welcome.....looked fantastic 😀🥃
Thanks, much appreciated 👍
Great video. What was the name of the towns you pased through on this video?
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 This vid was 2 days riding compressed into 20 mins so remembering the towns will be tricky! We started at Rocamadour and headed up to near Claremont Ferrond and the next day we headed south and ended up at Vallon Pont d'Arc.
Stunning countryside
Certainly is and a diverse one. I'm missing the trips already.
The long strait ‘boring’ roads must have been your choice. There are some great routes between your start point and the Lot.
Hi David, You're right it was my choice as we changed the route on the day due to my bad back , so as to make the journey time less to give it more time to heal up. 👍
I will be passing by there next Friday as I am meeting up with friends at Gramat for the weekend. I spend a hot day in Rocamadour in early August, it’s always worth a visit.
Nice! Hopefully the weather is kind to you, Are you biking there?
Stunning roads to play on and views to enjoy whilst doing so! 🙂
A great trip to do for sure 👍
Nicely put together, looks stunning
Cheers bud, yes lots of views that didn't make it into this short one as well.
Rather pleasant! 😍🤗👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks! 👍
Academy award stuff that !
Cheers Rob!
Nice mate, any of those passes the col de tourmalet? And where abouts was that balcony road? Cheers Martin
Thanks, The Col du Tourmalet is in the Pyrenees so no 😃 Col de la Bonette is in there and so is the col d l'izoard. The balcony road at the end is the Combe Laval in the Vercors.
