Brilliant video. I know people who have bought a cheap donor and recouped more than the cost by selling parts of you don't need ! The MEV was one of the first cars to use the MX5 as a donor and bang for buck you can't get better ! (plus you can turbo the engine at a later stage if you want more !!)

Ok that was a fun watch. I'm rather new to the whole kit car building game, and this certainly gave me a great insight into what's involved in it. Who would've thought you could make back such a fair chunk of the money that you're going to spend on the donor car, by just stripping and selling off the stuff you don't want/need. I'll have to check if there are any bargains out there online 😁

How much hp does the engine make? Sounds almost impossible to get that much power/weight from a 1.6.

30hp seems low - I know they produce all the torque right away - but what does that translate to in acceleration at higher speeds where drag resistance the dominant force rather accelerating the mass of the vehicle?

Could I order this version of the kit? Minus the drive train, battery, and modified mx5 parts?

Was just as great to watch from the grandstand

Only damage was fibreglass wheel arch and bent wing stay. 5 minutes in the pits with a breaker bar and I was back out.

Car held up well, looked quite scary, even form my sofa! made for some entertaining video though :)

I can confirm it was bloody slippery on this day! Don't think it got above 2 or 3 degrees at any point...

A little. Bent the track rod, cracked the master cylinder and broke the pin off the brake pedal in the MC, that and some cracked fibreglass. We got back out for the second race though!

lol only a small off. It's quite slippery when it's cold and damp around Druids as you can see. Javelin are very good organisers and as long as the mount is secure rather than suction they're fine.

Nice vid, just a couple of questions: * How strict were the organisers with your camera mount or didn't they see it? * How did you find the track on a cold December day, I'm thinking of going in late January in my Elise on a Novice event, I've done Bedford Autodrome before but that's a relatively easy/safe track to navigate with it's huge run off areas. Both stage one mods (exhaust/filter etc). FTO had AP racing 4 pot brakes with 330mm discs, S2000 had standard. We make custom brake kits for all cars. Check freakyparts.co.uk for more info :D
