Glissading at Mount Shasta's Red Banks went wrong
Переглядів 66 тис.3 місяці тому
This happened on June 23, 2024 when we were descending down from Mount Shasta summit. Myself, a stranger, and my friend glissaded into a dangerous chute one after an other at Red Banks. Luckily, no one was injured. I plotted the safe route (where we ascended from) at the beginning of the video. If you ever go, stay safe and don't blindly follow the glissading track, as it may lead you to danger...

Travel | Yosemite Snow (Weekend of Jan 13, 2024)

I stayed at Yosemite Valley Camp 4 over the weekend of Jan 13, 2024. It was rainy on Saturday almost entirely, with 2 hours of snow between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., and I was luck enough to capture the beautiful scene. The sky cleared up on Sunday, and the valley was covered in dense fog, so I drove up to The Tunnel View for some overlooking shots. Music: 'Jul' - Scott Buckley (ua-cam.com/video/ldLb...

Acat X1 Casual Build

This is a casual build for my friend from some spare parts I owned. Acat X1 is a Ghost S1 clone sold on Taobao with some major improvements, such as: * More rigid structure with the fixture bars on the top * Thicker aluminum exterior * Aluminum top, bottom, mid-spine and PSU mount (while Ghost S1 MK2 uses thinner steel) * Better manufacture precision * better design of the front and back panel ...
SSUPD Meshlicious Build

Thanks for watching! Please consider to subscribe. I routed the AIO tubing from the top, because the middle spine of the case would apply too much pressure on the tubing if I route it from the bottom. I used slim fans to keep the build clean. Cables were made with MDPC-X 15AWG hook-up wire and paracord sleeves. This build is mainly for showcase purpose. You may use this video as a basic build g...

Thanks for watching! Please like and subscribe! If you plan to use this video as a build guide, please note that: 1. I forgot to record the AIO fan installation part. For this specific AIO, the fans have to go under the radiator; otherwise, the top panel won't close (unless you drill the fans' screw holes and use countersunk screws). I used #6-32 x 7/8" screws in this video. If you plan to dril...
Don't know why I like this hand-tightening sound
3:05 do NOT hide your worry and vulnerability from your friends who do not speak your language. You were worried for your friend, but you hid that fact from the rest of the team in your home language. I’m VERY glad you’re not my climbing partner. 0/10 communication 0/10 planning someone could have been very hurt. Educational for all the wrong reasons. How many swinging dicks did you bring with you on this dangerous route you improperly planned??
And that's why you shouldn't ride the snake.
stunning build man! where did you get the cables from?
Turns out she came anyways.
2:42 Sigma
That really doesnt look very bad. I did a glissade on adams that was way knarlier than that and came out fine.
Avalanche Gulch is much steeper than Pikers Peak. Still, these guys shoulda been fine if they just waited for the snow to soften. Also, just another reason to bring skis or snowboard up a mountain.
This seems stupid and thoughtless.
Lucky idiots specially the so " lead, guide"
Very steep no shit you're in the mountains
03:40 Cliff Bar or Pii double O, Pii?
Stupid
very steep means very fun
Glissading is for fools!
I hate how video footage never accurately portrays the steepness of a slope.
With a wider angle or 360 camera, you can make it look much steeper than reality.
It's pretty obvious. It's steep as excrement.
Population control 😅
Fools
Look at me!
What kind of sport is this? Is this for those who can't ski or snowboard? How is hurling yourself down a mountain on your butt fun? Isn't it painful?
This is only what you do after you climb a mountain to get down faster, and after hiking and climbing for hours to summit, sliding down like this after is actually very fun. It can be a bit painful if it's icy but with nice chutes carved out by other people it's really not bad.
@@stephenday9025 Fair enough , I was curious , so thanks for the info.
Do you realize how many peoples lives you put in harms way.
I dunno. That looks doable. As someone who has glissaded down Shasta. I almost lost it on Misery Hill when I was heading towards the Thumb and imminent death. But I toss my ice old school Chouinard ice hammer in and it stopped me like an anchor. Great fun!
Why didn't you just climb down like I did?
He ain't no bitch
Kook fest! I was just on this section two weeks ago and glissading down this is stupid and dangerous.
That person is not glissading, they're sliding on their butt. Glissading is done standing up.
Um no. The most common way to glissade is on your butt. What you’re talking about is boot skiing, also technically glissading, but something not ideal for longer slides and also much less safe because you’re unable to quickly self-arrest.
Look at Freedom of the Hills and get back to us about whether you're supposed to be atanding or sitting🙄
REAL mountaineers stand when glissading. Butt slides are for amateurs. Besides, butt troughs ruin the chutes for skiers. Ever try to ski a slope like this with a deep butt trough down the middle? You gotta keep hopping the butt trough. AMATEURS. I've done standing glissades past people who were rapelling the chute. AMATEURS.
@@Down_Time_Productions oh damn. Well I didn’t realize how cool you were, dude. Me bad for underestimating how highly you think of yourself
Dangers to yourself and others.
That one guy that was "out of control" was fine, big runout out at the bottom just a little icy and steep but nothing dangerous here.
So glissading is sliding uncontrollably down a mountain? 😂
Obviously you should be able to control yourself
This shits hilarious 😂 kookfest 2024
LOLOL you just had to
Never understood glissading?? It's what suckers do in the mountains. It's too risky, you get wet and it's not faster.
This is not glissading. Glissading is skiing on your feet. No self respecting mountaineer slides on their ass. These people are neither mountaineers nor alpinists, they are tourists.
@@SimonHergottGoogle glissading. It is definitely done sitting down and standing.
Shasta starts shedding rock fall as the sun hits it. Glissading done safely significantly reduces your time of exposure in rock fall zones. I glissaded from the red banks in summer 2003 and a 2 ft rock/boulder bounced about 20 ft to our right and stopped in the path about 100ft down. It was going scary fast.
@@SimonHergottrecommend getting a copy of Freedom of the Hills and look up glissading
You don’t glissade through the red banks wtf
Guy that couldn't self arrest also had crampons, never wear crampons when glissading. Lucky he's okay hah.
No kidding. That’s probably why he couldn’t control his glissade (the crampons catch and pull sideways).
nothing wrong with going fast down steep sections as the terrain then eases down below and you'll slow down...
That’s not even double black diamond steep. I slide down them all the time when my snowboard takes off on me. Without a chute to keep me in place.
You want to use your ribs to hammer the axe in
Kook Fest
Looks like the only real issues here were the hard pack, icy conditions (not ideal), and the poor form on the glissade. If they had stayed in control from the start then momentum wouldn’t have become the enemy.
Nice video Aesth. Thank you for sharing 👍 #4 Beautiful views 👍
Some people shouldn’t be in the mountains. It’s clear others did this descent just fine based on the previous glissade path, but these yo-yos were too inexperienced to not panic. So if your scared, put your damn crampons on, and walk down. SMH If I were them, I would never have posted this. It’s embarrassing
I think its a runnel
I don't think you understand how snow conditions change throughout the day... maybe you shouldn't be in the mountains?
It's good they're sharing. People can learn from each other's mistakes.
Good thing you're not them because no one could learn from you. People will learn from this.
I can think of some recent people on Shasta that applies to.
People get killed doing this on Mt. Whitney, too.
get your shoulder and chest over the axe, dragging it is not how it's meant to be used. amga guide.
Its hard not to share my thoughts on this clip. Darwin awards for everyone! Shasta deserves much more respect at least show some for your own lives! I'm glad you all made it safely and hope you'd never try that again. That should not be an acceptable way to descend....at least not for my friends and family
What the fuck was your friend thinking glissading with crampons on
Thats a spicy fukkin meatball. Glad everyones safe
Excuse my ignorance, but why would it have been a problem? Seems like it would be fun & exciting to slide down the snow quicker than the usual slow glissade. Even seems like the guy in yellow at the end had a good time, if he would’ve just relaxed and used his axe a little he wouldn’t have spun out of control
The slope is way too steep, and as I tried to exert all the force on the axe, there is no way for me to decelerate at the beginning, and the only way I can stop is to self-arrest. Also, at this speed, a small bump may send the person into awkward position. The guy in yellow ended up sitting at the bottom for 10 mins to calm himself down.
@AesthYT did he watch a UA-cam video on how to self arrest?
@@cf1494 Yes watched, but unfortunately, not learned
Descending like this on a steep icy slope is extremely dangerous as you will quickly lose control and keep accelerating. You can't beat physics.
The amateurs that died on Mt. Whitney doing this thought the same thing.
This is a f-ed up day. Way to keep it together and get home safe. Respect the mountain
He waves "don't come" She walks down and comments on ice!
Thank you v interesting
Great video! Nice job recovering.
Glad nobody was hurt too badly. I appreciate the captions explaining everything that's going on.
@2:45, glissading/out of control in crampons…something you never want to see. Glad you all made it out safely.
Excellent way to break a leg or ankle or totally destroy a knee....smh
@@carbonking53 precisely
Somebody needs to clue these guys in to the basics of glissading. Doesn't get any worse than the guy at 2:47!
bro had zero idea how to arrest haha people die every year because of that... glad he didnt slip and fall anywhere on the mtn
It seems like the cooling is excellent. The only thing I would change would be to use a 2 fan card instead
Beautiful build man.
