Etching a Steel Sword the Easy Way
Переглядів 1,8 тис.6 років тому
I etched my steel sword using a car battery charger and some salt water. Really easy and some really nice results. At the start of the video I used the word 'engraved' rather than 'etched'. Hope you like it. PLEASE ONLY DO THIS WITH ADULT SUPERVISION. THE CHARGER PUTS OUT 12V DC. NEVER USE AC MAINS ELECTRICITY.

Great job sir
can you apply the copper sheet to wood and if so what would you use to adhere it to the wood?
Why are the two blues different ? Like the face blue and keen to try it on a round beaten hanging we have.
Bro the result looks like knife😐 you actually just ruin the keris identity which is the art on its holder and cover
I went to a beginners class to metalsmithing today and we made copper pendants that are textured and shiny but I actually liked mine dull and have been wondering if I could color it . I like the blue, and your artwork is beautiful!
Very nice blue! I've been playing with patinas these days but haven't tried vinegar yet with salt and ammonia fumes. Perhaps if after you rub off some, then repeat the process, you can build up layers? I like how the metal underneath shows through the patina. I've managed to get a nice pale teal green with copper sulphate and ammonia chrloride (but strangely also appears a more yellow green on some pieces which I've not been able to figure out - seems more of an art than an exact science?) Copper nitrate is also giving me a green - either using it with salt and distilled water as a spray-on, or copper nitrate and distilled water sprayed and very lightly heated with a torch. I got a strange ochre yellow recently after I got carried away respraying and mixing up a bunch of solutions - don't think I could repeat it though!
Commendable work, look after that gun
1.12............ " It'll make a circus " Made me laugh.
Ancient Romans used horse urine for green patina
Maybe seal it with something
Amazing work
Thanks for sharing that work. I had considered that this would be the method to create pieces for antiques, and you proved it. I’m not going to shy away from doing this. I’ve got lots of files and time. If I have a surplus of material I might cheat and use die grinder what’s the worst that can happen. I think it’s great that we can use online reference material like this to get ideas. Thanks again.
the sword was invented by the carthaginians (South Lebanon, Tyre to Tunis Carthage)
I think it would help if you slowed down some of the hammering, so we could see more of your technique. Can you tell me what thickness copper sheet you use and perhaps any buying tips re preice tc etc. New to this and also, I am a new subscriber and have enjoyed your videos.
No information on where to get the materials
God how I wish you did these on commission!
Really nice job it came perfect in my book. Only question is, what's the guage of the copper sheet? Thanks for sharing.
Nice job, this inspires me to make mine
Yall please dont dry fire these old hammered double barrels. I know its a fun thing to do, but almost every one ive seen has had ruined cones and firing pins. These things are still useable with some TLC
Very good 👍👍🤩🤩 Thank you..🙏🙏🥰🥰🌹
I am researching the hunting rifle depicted in Eugène Delacroix’s painting “Liberty Leading The People.” It was a work commemorating the July Revolution of 1830 in France. The bourgeoisie is represented by a young man in a top hat holding what appears to be a double-barreled shotgun. Wikipedia has a detailed version of the painting, but I cannot determine if the hammer indicates the gun has been shot or is ready to be shot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think you should learn from the kris forge in Java(mpu/empu)
Very nice
Outstanding. I'm about to do the same thing. Thank you for the video.
Did you sand the copper first? I'm going to try this, but I will sand it, and sand it more in some areas. Idk about the vinegar tho because you get the blue with.out it. Just ammonia and salt.
Why does this vid only get 11 like this is amazing
Nice bro...look good..
Wow, very nicely done. May I ask what is the thickness of the aluminium tray/sheet? thanks
It's always the underrated channels that have the best builds awesome job!

Clove oil or choji is traditionally used in nihonto
No kurigata? And that Fuchi is bizarre but nice overall effect
would have been nice to see the process rather than telling us what you did.
Not malaysian keris but Malay keris. If malaysian keris then this keris own by chinese and indian too.

This is awsume wish u had more videos to watch very interested in hand hammering copper and looking for ideas thank you Tracy
What kind of copper do you buy? I'm looking for copper sheets that I want to patina to use in art pieces but I don't know if it has to be a particular weight or copper foil or what. TIA.
Fantastic job 👍
Nice work!
Thanks for this video.
Well done. Had I not have seen all of the video I would have been prepared to bet that the hammer was the original or had been cast. It's amazing what can be achieved with lots of patients and very few tools. Hats off to you, Sir, you did a brilliant job.
This thing dont look like the witch king dagger
Nice job!
Beautiful work! Your hammer even outdoes the original hammer - which is quite aged - while still fitting into the piece nicely.
Keris yg dia beli itu bukan keris... Keris adalah besi yg ditempa. Keris acuan bukan keris walau berbentuk macam keris.
Marvelous color but you scared the sh*zz out of me when you raised the plastic cover and kept it up. Ammonia is dangerous!!
How much?
